Ladies, ladies, ladies - it's ok the pants don't fit correctly I'm not upset that they are being returned. This is why we post K/R - to get honest feedback and I totally appreciate your comments and insights.

Gaylene - I would like to apologize for what I said earlier. I'm obviously feeling a little overly sensitive these days and I truly know you meant no offence. Do not give this another thought, ok?

Oh, Shannon, I'm so sorry that my comments offended you. I truly never meant to cause hurt feelings. I feel terrible that my comments hurt your feelings. I was just trying to help you figure out some of the fit issues that I saw in the picture you posted.

As someone who has done a lot of sewing and tailoring, part of the challenge which I enjoy is figuring out how to make garments fit perfectly on a wide variety of bodies. I was in a bit of a hurry when I wrote that comment and feel terrible that my comments were hurtful rather than helpful.

Shannon I actually gave up looking for new black trousers over winter as I could not find one pair that fit well. I am not suggesting you stop looking just sharing really that a high percentage of women struggle to find a good ditto g pair of trousers. I will recommend my quest next Autumn:)

Just wanted to add that even the ITs have trouble with pants. One of my best friends is very slim and straight through the hips and most pants ride up because they are cut to narrow to the waist and her body doesn't so they seem to climb seeking higher ground. We all have issues - they just aren't the same ones. :)

Let the search continue.

I have ordered 2 pairs of white trousers from BR but my hopes are so slim...unlike me!:-)

I think the fit issues with trousers are always going to be frustrating for some of us. I have never found pants easy to fit, no matter what my weight or size. It is one reason I used to gravitate more strongly towards skirts and dresses. I think ITs are pretty much the only body type that finds trousers relatively easy, and no doubt there are still some fit issues for them as well.

I did notice that even in the photo of the model wearing these, they are snug on the seat. So perhaps that is exactly the way they are intended to fit.

I haven't read through the comments, but I LOVE the color of these trousers. The fit seems a bit off, maybe something about the rise? I vote return, but you absolutely NEED a pair of stone colored trousers.

I think the color is great for you, but it sounds like the fit concerns are trumping that. The only thought I would add is that if you want to make the extra effort, you might bring them to your magic tailor and see what she says. I often have that excess amount of length at the bottom and find no amount of tucking under (which I try) makes them fall the same way as when they are properly hemmed.

Hi, Shannon. I like the color on you. Not having read others' comments, I am thinking that my issue is not the color but that there is a lot of baggyness from the upper thigh downward. From the below the knee, it's particularly baggy. Your legs look like they're swimming in these flares. Your wardrobe is always so spot-on so I feel comfortable saying that these aren't quite on that level.

Gaylene - I need to be honest and say I found your comments a wee bit insensitive referring to me as having a "unique body shape" and the repeated comment on the need for extra fabric to cover me. As someone who is a bit sensitive about her size, I could have done without that particular wording.

When we did pants fitting at the tailoring classes, we were taught that fabric creases point to the problem areas. Today's use of stretch in woven fabrics makes it easier for a greater number of body shapes to "fit" into a pair of pants, but now creasing tends to happen where the fabric is "using" the stretch to conform to the actual body shape.

The back view of these pants shows the creasing occurs in a diagonal line from the outside mid-hip to the inside upper thigh. To fit Shannon's unique body shape, the pants need a bit more fabric at these two points; right now the "extra fabric" is being supplied by the stretchiness of the fabric which pulls between these two points which leads to the creasing. If there was extra fabric at the side seam and the inner thigh, a tailor could redo the seams to provide a bit more fabric at these points and the creases would magically disappear.

Since women's ready-made pants don't provide the extra fabric (which men's pants often do--terribly unfair, in my opinion) the only way to get a perfect fit is to buy a larger size and get the pants altered. Or to buy this size and live with a less than perfect rear view. Or to hope that the fabric will eventually stretch out, and remain there, to provide that extra bit of fabric.

In a tailored pair of pants like these, you should not be able to see the back upper thigh area shape clearly through the pant. Ladies with skinny thighs rarely have this problem for obvious reasons, but those ladies with a curvier thigh and posterior often settle for a less than perfect fits because the stretchiness of the fabric makes the pant look acceptable from the front.

Shannon; I would love to see how these fit in back after you've worn them around the house for several hours. I think you CAN wear this color, but IMHO the width at the bottom (by the ankles) adds pounds. But maybe I'm saying this because my similarly styled pale gray Express Editors make me feel this way, and I rather regret buying such wide pants. I personally find straight legs/stove pipes to be the most flattering, but that width is very hard to find, especially in a mid-rise.

Goodness no, Deborah - not discouraging at all. Even at 40% off I am not interested in buying/keeping pants that don't fit right. I wouldn't post a K/R if I didn't want honesty :)

I do think you're on to something regarding them being more like Angie's trousers that you linked to. It is interesting that you think there is excess fabric in the thigh because the feel of the pants on does not suggest that. I can feel the fabric against my skin in other words. Hmmmm...

The Espirit pants are quite fabulous! That make sense! As a flared pant, I understand the fit of the camel pants better however this then highlights for me further what I think is extra fabric at the thigh. I hope my comments aren't discouraging. You have such wonderful style and I think youur attention to fit has a lot to do with how incredible your outfits look on you. Do you think the style is more like these of Angie's?

My Esprit trousers are in a class of their own Deborah - I have NEVER had trousers fit as well as those. They are a lower rise than the BR Sloans and definitely fit my tush better (they aren't tight in the backside but rather "cup" it well, if that makes any sense). They also are not as wide legged as these. Maybe these are too wide legged for short me?

Just noticed that Angie referred to these trousers as "flared" in her description of them in her store.

I'm with Suz here, I think they have great potential. My concern is the width around the calves, you might want to have them narrowed/tapered a bit at the bottom. I think the fabric will ease into a very good fit. Love the color!

Hmmmm.....definitely a split view here....

They don't feel snug in the bottom and they are incredibly comfortable. There is some stretch in the fabric and as Suz wondered, I suspect they would "ease" with wearing.

Deborah - they are a wide legged trouser and not bootcut, if that makes a difference. Is it possible the excess fabric you see is due to the extra 5 inches of fabric tucked under the leg causing it to not fall/drape properly? If so, there's not much I can do about that at the moment.

OK, Ms. Fussy BackFit here. I tried on those BR pants a few weeks ago and was not impressed with the fit--and, with my IT shape, normally I have no trouble fitting a Sloan or Martin BR pant. But, in spite of not having any hips and a smaller rear, I had the same creeping up in the bottom crotch area in the back. In my opinion, these pants would be best suited to someone who has a short rise in the back. That would let the fabric fall straight over the back thigh area instead of pulling.

That said, I think a camel pant looks just fine on you. And, as others have pointed out in one of Suz's threads, not everyone is as fussy as I am about the back view. Having 200+ eyes focusing on your rear in a typical day at work does make one VERY careful about the back fit.

I'm not 100% on the fit either. I think you are getting a bit of the crotch pull and the lower part of the legs seems a bit too voluminous. Perhaps it is the lighter color that is emphasizing the width though. I just looked at the pics again and wonder if it might be the rise that is a touch short and that is causing the bit of pull under the tush and across the front.

I think you wear pants well and these aren't as nice a fit as most of your faves. Sorry.

Shannon, I'm not sure on the fit here. This is one where I would love Angie to weigh in. Are these a wide leg pant or bootleg cut? I think they fit in some places but not others and this would be a deal breaker for me. To ,y eye there appears to be excess fabric at the thighs. It is hard to fully assess because there is so much additional fabric at the bottom, but as lovely as these are and the color is wonderful on you, I am going to say return. I am going to take a look at your expresso(?) pants and just review there fit tho.

I'm hopeless with trouser fit but can see no issues, so I'll only say I'm seeing the beginnings of a great camel capsule with that toning top! (No, I daresay you weren't planning to... but still! so fun with that print!)

Wow, look how well those work with TAUPE!! Had I known that, I'd have ordered a pair for myself! Sheesh.

I like them a lot, Shannon. Agree with Jeneva that the back view looks a wee bit snug. However, as someone who also has this issue with trousers quite often (it's typically associated with the relationship between the rise and having an actual bottom) I also wonder if they might ease a bit with wear. What about trying them around the house for an hour or two? I often find that my pants really do relax a lot in that area - not "bag out" but just ease somehow.

And if the comfort factor is there, then you are fine. They are an elegant looking trouser and you wear them well!
