Keeper. There is nothing frumpy about this jacket. I love the hem detail in the back. I am just not a big fan of skirts hanging out from under coats, but that's just my persnickety pet-peeve (feel free to take with a grain of salt).

Thanks Cinnamon Fern! It would be my main transitional jacket, yes. At least when it comes to jeans. Water repellant is good of course, but not really necessary. I always use an umbrella anyway. And I'm laughing at the perfect climate comment, you must have been lucky! We do have some nice weather here, but it's often changeable and sometimes I feel like we never get to see the sun. We only had nine hours sun this January!

Thanks Ornella! This one fits quite well, much better than all utility jackets I tried before. Of course the sleeves are too long, but I'm used to that.

Ok, without reading any other responses and bearing in mind I'm only learning about utility jackets, this actually looks much better than I thought it would. I think I'm sold on that hi-low hemline, to my eye that detail makes it fun and fresh.

I like the way it looks a lot. But if we're talking practicality, is this your main spring/transitional jacket? If so I'm wondering whether something slightly more water repellent might be good. Not necessarily an actual raincoat, but something that won't act quite so much like a sponge in the slightest drizzle.

This might not be relevant to your weather - you're in Berlin, right? I don't know the weather. I spent two weeks there in the summer of 2011 and it was 25 and sunny every day, so now I think Berlin has the perfect climate

Thanks Kelly. I don't wear the bootcuts as often as the other ones anyway. I thought it didn't look bad with the bootcuts, but it definitely looked more modern with the other jeans. We also see a lot of parkas here, but often people who wear them don't pay attention to proper fit in any way. At the moment it's much too cold to wear it anyway, I think I will see if I come up with something better in the next two weeks before I cut the tags.

I think the fishtail hem and the toggle (?) in the back make for a refreshing update on a kind of traditional jacket. I also think it looks better in motion and IRL with the boot cuts. Take my opinion with a grain of salt--I see A LOT of this style jacket from where I hail. It is kind of an LLBean look. One might say, that I have a poison eye for it. I know you can work your boho magic on it and sassy it up with a cool scarf or fun Docs. This is still a functional jacket for you--not just a light windbreaker. While I think a light, fun color would be awesome, it's not a deal breaker (IMHO.)

ETA: I don't want to be the one responsible for letting you freeze come spring

Thanks Andrea! I'd would definitely go well with straight legs and I wear those more often anyway.

Thanks Jayne. When I had a look in the mirror I just thought it might be more flattering a bit shorter. I also think that a shorter jacket would work better with the bootcuts. I'm not sure though.

Thanks Tina.

Thanks for chiming in, Angie. And yes, I agree. I had a look around the other spring jackets and coats and tried a few others, but the fit was never as good as with this one here. And the colors weren't as great either. Black, browns and beiges or very bright colors and pastels. Not many midtones available. I could wait a bit until I decide and see if I find an lighter alternative. I have two weeks to return it.

Thanks Kelly. Yes, I'd wear this one when my pseudo wool coat would be too warm. I agree that the look with the bootcuts is not as great. Mmh. I'd definitely want a jacket that would go over all my pants. Maybe I should keep looking.

I say keep! It's not perfectly fitted - I agree it's a little long in the body - but I think this type of jacket should be a little RATE. I like it and think it will be a great addition to your wardrobe and will really look terrific with your style.

I love the fishtail hem. It looks especially good in 1-4. I'm not as crazy about it with the boot cuts and the skirt. I think I'd prefer a shorter jacket with those. Is this a transitional coat for you? Spring and fall?

I think the length is good, I actually prefer this length to a shorter one. I can see where it is a little long waisted on you, but I probably wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it. The fit looks great from the front, a little big from the sides; but then I like a bigger fit in jackets because you need room for when you wear bulkier tops. Plus a looser fit is more fashion forward.
I like it, I vote keep!

I went looking for the jacket from my last post on my way home and they still had it in most sizes! It's not as thin as I thought, so not quite an equivalent to a denim jacket. The sleeves and bottom half are lined with polyester, the top half is lined with cotton.

The pictures are way overexposed, but it was the only way you could really see the fit. Please excuse that I look so done in, I have a cold - again.

#1-4
And here it is. How is the length? I think it would be perfect were it a tad shorter in front. The waist hits not in the middle of my actual waist, but just at the end. It does work though. It's quite loose on top because I needed to size up for the hips. I could make that drawstring waist a lot tighter still, but then you can see the excess fabric in the back. The sleeves are rolled in once, they would need shortening.

#5
With bootcuts. Recipe for a frump-tastic disaster?

#6-7
Just to see - worn with a skirt. I just threw the skirt over the layering tights I had worn under my jeans. Definitely too long, or not long enough.

I'm definitely done shopping for march if I keep this one and the skirt I ordered.

What do you think? I just couldn't decide, so I had to bring it home to show you. I only want to keep this if it really works.
