I wish you could find one that fits like #2 but in #1's color, as it's gorgeous on you. But I vote for #2 overall.

You look great in those colors.

Is the zipper in #1 poorly fabricated so that it pulls the beautiful material of the dress? That is a tie breaker for me. I am so tired of things not be properly done that unless it is "the one", I vote with my feet and leave it behind.

I like #2 on you and would enjoy seeing it styled as you described. I also like the length.

The "vibe" of the 2 dresses is very different. I see a hint of sweet/retro in number 1, that isn't so present to my eye in 2. You know best which way that tips your choice.

2 fits you much better but I LOVE the colour of 1.

I would like to see 2 layered under too, because I think that shift style could look jumperish.

Since both have their points in aesthetic terms, I'm going to go with fit (secondary, as you can likely get an alteration?) and practicality (since you want to serve in a specific few ways) --- and agree with Diana that the sleeve and shoulder of #2 is much more accommodating of 'layering under' endeavours.

Personally, I much prefer the fabric of #2 as well, but I realize you have reservations about the colour vs #1. Have you compared to your other navy items to see how well they play together? Sometimes I find a slight distance in tone is rather more attractive than a very near match.

I like them both, with a slightly prefference to nr 1, as the shape-and colour I find more flattering, but of course just in case you change it for another one, that has not that pouching on the back, and neckline is cut to center-then I would keep them BOTH.Ha!:-)

Ooooh, yes, Diana, good call re. the jumper vibe. Had not considered that!

I am happy that it's not a slam dunk! I do prefer the color of #1...but I kind of am leaning towards #2 cause it's more 60's inspired, which makes me happy. You can't tell, but on #1 the neckline is actually OFF CENTER. I am not joking. So obvs I got a lemon and would have to exchange if I kept it...and I like #2 so much that I might just go ahead and return #1. The other thing about #2 that I like is that it's thicker material.

Given your stipulation that you'll be wearing something over or under it, I would go with #2. I prefer the shape of #1 on its own without another layer, but the back pooch is a dealbreaker. I have had dresses do that, and IMO it's because the back is too long or the back neck is cut too high. It's tough to fix (too wide is a lot easier to fix).

ETA: Could you try #2 with the jacket and/or turtleneck and show us? I think it would be fab but there is a small chance it could look too school jumper-ish and young.

Both are quite stunning. And I find it hard to choose but I think while I might choose #2 for me, I would select #1 for you as the style seems more you. Agree with Zap, is it an option to have an alteration done on # 1?

Ah I'm conflicted. I actually love #1 from the front, but I agree with you, the zipper is doing something wonky. #2 is nice but I'm jaded based on the front view of #1. I love how #1 showcases your tiny torso and I find the flared / pleated skirt very flattering on you.

Dang it, I would actually ask Nordstrom ( assuming you bought the dresses from them) for a free alteration on #1 to fix the zipper bulge. There is probably a lot of material in the back. That is not a complicated alteration.

I love the color of each. I'm on such an ink blue kick these days. Really, both are very good on you, and I like the shape of the 2nd one quite a lot. The first one is my favorite, so I'm disappointed with that fabric pooch in the back. What if you tried another one? I was going to suggest the next size up, but it looks like it fits you well.

OK, ladies, I think I know which one I like...my question is - are either of these worthy of my navy, white, grey and black capsule?

I'd likely wear a black leather jacket over OR a thin black turtleneck under these dresses, with black or grey shoes. Some day I'll buy navy shoes that I'd wear with them.

Dress 1: More navy than dress 2, and fit-flare, which ought to be good for my figure? BUT - the fit is off. The neckline is actually cut off center! weird! And it does this little pooch in back?

Dress 2: More blue, but I do like this shape - look ma! No back-pooch! Maybe not as flattering since it's the type of dress that flares out from the hip which is really not my best shape.
