I am so glad you are keeping the tunic. I seriously considered it last week when you posted it in finds. I now wish I had pounced.
Can't wait to see the Zara tunic. I plan to wear mine soon to.

LOL, Denise, it sounds like you are already comfortable with the function and the fashion of the fanny pack, so go for it! It does look really cute on you! :-)

I looked at the photos again, and my favorite items are still the snake print booties and the grey tunic. The grey tunic with that black vest is amazing!

You're so sweet, too. I'm OK with my breeder hips (I mean, what else can I do but accept them, they're not going anywhere!). ;-) I think we actually have fairly similar proportions, mine are just a little bigger all over. I share the short-waisted issue as well, but really, in your photo with the waist bag, I don't notice any short-waistedness, so obviously you know how to wear it well!

Oh, and by the way, those shorts look pretty terrific on you.

The tunic looks great and very versatile - l also really like how you styled it. You look smashing in those shorts. I can see why your boyfriend is a fan! I liked everything you bought, but it sounds like you have made some good decisions about what you most need.

Cocolion, I see how useful the grey tunic is to link all your other pieces and how it could work as a modern essential in your wardrobe. Showing how you would incorporate it into your look has made me reevaluate.

I also ended up with lots of grey over the last few years and I also have decided to minimise it coming in. I do like it as a neutral as I struggle with black unless it is alone, or with white or cream or blue, whereas grey is wonderful with denim, pink, red, and white and many other colours.

Janet -- LOL about the waitress pouch! Given that is what I do, maybe that's why I'm attracted to the concept, it just feels comfortable to me. I do think I'm keeping it, as the fanny pack has been on my wish list for almost a year now. Hopefully it will stay a fringe trend, that means I could get years of use from it. If it catches on too strong, then I might tire of it because I'll be seeing it all over the place. In any case I've had good success with investing in fringe trends.

OK so the Rebecca Minkoff bag is definitely going back, as I respect your style judgement tremendously Janet and feel our taste has quite a bit of intersect points (save for the fanny pack). :-)

BTW your hip issue is quite exaggerated and imagined, your hips are beautiful Janet. I wish you could see that about your body, we should treasure that waist to hip ratio, my difference is 11" in the a.m. before I am bloated in the mid-section. Maybe when you are my age you will come to appreciate what my boyfriend calls my breeder hips (LOL) a bit more.

But back on topic the fanny pack is more of a challenge not because of full hips but because my waist is short, and it can further shorten ones waist if not properly styled.

I never thought the tunic was blah, actually. I loved it on you right away - and look at how beautifully you styled it. A hundred thumbs up, and YES. UPDATED ESSENTIAL. My point entirely on Friday morning. The tunic glues together the rest of your wardrobe. xo

Unfrumped -- Ratty socks for a new blazer, LOL! But seriously, I do think you make a valid point in not making random trades. For example, I had a black pencil skirt on the chopping block but just tried it on. It is exactly 10 years old, high quality Made in Italy and perfectly fine. I only own 3 skirts, so why not keep it? I found a black shell with sheer panels that works perfectly with it, it's making another LBD for me. (I only have one cocktail dress in my closet at present.) So the skirt was going to go out in favor of the gray tunic, but now I need to find something in a more plentiful category as my closet is fairly devoid of skirts.

Angie -- Thanks for the blessings! Although the tunic is a bit blah, look at the magical powers it takes on. See pics below. It goes with so many things, and I actually think I am going to get more wear from my toppers with this baby in my wardrobe. I love how things just glide over the sleek fabric. This is a great example of an updated essential that will extend the use of my gray wardrobe capsule.

Angie/Diane G -- Will have to do some serious soul searching about the booties. Sigh...

OK, I've read Angie's cautions but mainly skimmed through the other comments… and so I'll be a little tough. :-)

I seem to be totally alone on this, but as much as I can say I like that fanny pack better than 99% of the ones I've seen, I do immediately think of waitress apron when I see it. And I've never been a waitress, go figure. I am also unsure of the longevity of that trend, so I kind of wonder how much use you'll get out of it. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, because I think I just have a mental bias against fanny packs. Probably because of my own body issues -- the last place I need more bulk is my hips, and I don't particularly want all the stuff I'm carrying around to be attached to me in that manner, bumping against seats when I sit down, etc. I just wonder how user-friendly they are IRL.

I adore the snakeskin booties -- my favorite thing you posted -- but if the comfort is not there, I would tread with caution.

Seriously, everything you posted looks really nice on you, it's just a matter of whether the items fill a need/hole in your wardrobe, considering how prevalent your uniform is in your life. I actually like the grey tunic on you -- it's a bit of a departure from your norm, but I think it looks nice as a change of pace from your usual silhouette. I guess all of this depends on your one-in-one-out policy and whether you love these new things enough to part with old ones.

I've passed on a great deal on that same RM bag (different color) for the same reason -- a little too much detail for my preferences now.

Some great items Denise and I really love the tunic, fanny pack and booties. The jeans are a no brainer to keep and definitely the tunic and fanny pack, but as Angie said you need to argue the case with your own conscience as to whether to keep any of the boots, but I do adore the look of them!

I'm SO glad that you thought this through more, Denise. Well done. The jeans, shorts, belt and tunic get my blessing, FWIW. (Thrilled to hear you're adopting the one in one out principle). The booties you'll have to think a little more about because there is ample duplication - and you don't wear them to work. You have to get the fanny pack though - soooooo fun. xo

I also like your trying to keep up the 1 in/1 out as that is a challenge for me and I need reminders and inspiration.
I especially like that it does not have to be item for item ( but ratty socks don't count for a new blazer!) even though in theory one could end up with an unbalanced wardrobe. So I often do review the item category and try to see if one same item should go, just as a practical matter and to provoke thinking--if I get this sweater, it will be in competition with some top or another, what should go? But the most important question is, which existing item is truly not getting worn, has lost its appeal, and so on so that things move in the right direction.

Thank you all for such wise and supportive comments.

Jenanded -- I am not doing the un-fancy.com program. I just did it for 34 days with 34 items. But yes you and Angie have identified that there might be some imaginary lifestyle items in this mix.

Suz -- good question about the ON jeans. They never fit right. I thought of wearing them for a day, but I had another cut of ON jeans that stretched out so badly that I decided not to bother. I thought if I consign or donate them unworn, they will have a higher value and be more appreciated by someone.

Kiwigal -- thanks for your honesty about the gray tunic.

Neel -- I don't wear the wedge oxfords anymore, I have switched to mostly low heeled booties. My 1 in, 1 out policy is not to have precise replacements as my style wants change. Even if I get a new sweater, which is replacing a skirt I never wear, that is ok in my mind because the overall wardrobe count is not increasing. Does that make sense?

Jjsloane -- as for the Pixy booties and comfort factor, thanks for the tough love! I am feeling that way too.

Unfrumped -- LOL at JCE just comfortable enough!

Deborah -- I love the suggestion of the gray tunic paired with a moto.

Aubergine -- good comment about the Rebecca Minkoff bag being a bit played out.

Shevia -- I do appreciate the tough love about the color gray, and thanks for thinking the pink looks good on me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep this sweater, now I'm thinking it might look good with my gray jeans for a lower contrast look.

Jackiec -- yeah the booties are both pretty fabulous. They are also both made in Italy and the quality is superb. A quality boot is like a work of art!

Elizabeth P -- I like your idea to do a serious evaluation of my other booties to see if I can find a place for the Jean-Michel Cabazats.

AviahMaria -- Good to know I'm converting more of you to team fanny pack!

Carole -- see comment above to Jjsloane -- you are like minded on the comfort of footwear being non-negotiable.

Greyscale -- I too thought the tunic had a nice shape, and I also like that the arms and sleeves are fitted. This actually makes it great as a layering piece. And no surprise that you like the LD Tuttles -- we share a love of that brand!

Angie -- You are so wise to point out the realities of this haul. I think my mind has shifted from the lessons of my capsule test to 1 in, 1 out. But I need to be reminded of my capsule lesson, which was that my smart casual items don't get worn that much! So with that frame of mind:

The most lifestyle appropriate items are the black jeans (would get a ton of wear and wash and need to be replaced once a year), the Madewell belt, and the gray tunic. The short shorts are also a realistic item because even though I wouldn't wear them to work, I have time every day before I change for work when I am wearing casual clothes. That only my Mom and boyfriend see me in.

The LD Tuttles, JM Cabazats and fanny pack are the most "statement" of all of the items and also more dressy and thus less truly needed. The fanny pack might be more useful actually as I am going on a cruise with Mom to Hawaii and the belt bag looks perfect for strolling the deck and day excursions, paired with black sandals.

Alaskagirl -- LOL dessert before dinner. I have a huge sweet tooth too, I think my love of shopping, fashion and dessert hang out and party in the same part of my brain!

Debbie -- I am glad you like the tunic, tunic sistah!!! I plan to wear my Zara tunic this week -- look for a WIW.

Ummlilla -- Good to know the Rag & Bones work for you! I too love this brand and find it fits me well. The other jeans I have on order for comparison, are Paiges and a new brand that was recommended to me by Jenine over at EatSleepDenim.com.

I have high rise black rag and bone skinny jeans and I continue to be a big fan of them. I also love both of the boots. Everything else is fine if you like it, though I am not a huge fan of the turtleneck.

And as for the disciplined closet, that's a different story. With a rigorous black and white work uniform (I'm pretty sure you posted photos of this before) I can see why you would want your off duty clothes to be perfect and completely reflect your personality. And why you would want them to be different all the time.

Oh my this is hard. If they are comfortable keep the snakeskin boots. Oh my word they are perfection. Keep the fanny pack I think it fits well in your lifestyle.
Ok here is where it gets hard because it all looks stellar. The black jeans I am going to reserve judgement until you show all of them. The shorts are a no brainier keep. The belt keep. Return the bag. I would only keep one of the boots. If the snakeskin are not comfortable and are then keep these.
The tunic is where I want to jump and down and scream keep. It looks comfortable and stylish. A hard combination sometimes.
Let us know what you decide

What Angie said. I think you and I have the same issue - buying for the 10-20% of our lives instead of the rest (dessert before dinner syndrome!). I would be a hearty yay on all of these items, but for that concern. And you can do the same to me.

It ALL looks sensational, Denise. (I LOVE the fanny pack and want one too). I especially love the snakeskin booties.

Truly, you can keep on showing us pieces like this till the cows come home because you are VERY in tune with your style - you know what works - and you love to buy trendy pieces. You will always get a positive response from us because of that.

My concern is this: your ongoing purchasing for pieces that you can wear 1.5 to 2 days of the week - since you wear a uniform for 5 to 6 days a week. Please don't think that I want to rob you of your fashion fun - I WANT you to have all the fun in the world with fashion. But you have mentioned enough times for me to take notice over the years, how you really want your wardrobe to reflect more accurately what your lifestyle is about. You even did the 30 item project for a few months to get down to the nitty gritty. That means purchasing less for an imaginary lifestyle. I don't want to be a wet blanket, Denise. But it's my job to remind you of these thoughts too. Soooooo, in that light. Think carefully about what deserves a place in your wardrobe. I want you to have it all - but I also want you to stick to your wardrobe and closet goals. Hope that makes sense. xo

I love the Tuttle boots of course. And the other boots - the snakeskin is more of a statement than I wear, but they are so fab!

I think the shape makes the tunic distinctive - that sort of bell shape isn't what I usually see. It looks adorable on you. But, if you aren't convinced, return. Especially because of your no more grey rule - I assume that's because you buy more of it than you wear or want to wear. In which case, stick to your rule.

In no particular order... I like the fit of the grey tunic, but that colour is nowhere near as flattering on you as say, that blush pink. So I say return.

You look amazing in those shorts... no need to keep them inside your house only!

The snakeskin boots.......................PLONK. These, are staying. As long as they are comfortable of course. I think these will be so versatile that you should have a serious evaluation of all your the other booties to see if you really do need them.

Hard to evaluate the ones you're not wearing, but you seem to have them all figured out yourself Trust your gut.

Love the fanny pack!

OMG I can hardly see past those snakeskin booties. Wow those are super fantabulous. Seriously. Love. I like the black booties as well, and if they are comfy and fill a hole in your wardrobe then black it is. But seriously? These snakeskin ones look amazing and would go with everything in your closet! Gah! Hmm. What size are you?

What's next? Right, I like the grey turtleneck top on you - but I'm not an expert on fit - but looks good to me. And hey, I love the CE shorts on you too! You could totally wear those out.

I hear hesitation about the RM bag. I personally love it. Maybe we can see it? Or if you're feeling that much hesitation - forget about it and send it back.

Fun! Keep the black boots, the fanny pack bag and the snakeskin booties IF they are really comfortable. The pink top you wore in #4 is so flattering and the grey just doesn't suit you nearly as well, so I say return the tunic. Shorts - you have the legs for them, it's up to you if you will wear. RM bag - not sure, I am not into all that hardware on the bag in general but I think you need to model it.

I love both pairs of boots, especially the snakeskin ones. And the black ones sound so comfortable that maybe they're worth keeping even if you don't technically need them.

I really like the fanny pack too! (Which is a sentence I never thought I'd type.) It looks elegant and fun at the same time.

Am not crazy about the gray top. It just seems like too much of a fairly drab color with the turtleneck, long sleeves, and tunic length. The shape does look nice on you though.

The shorts look good -- not indecent at all! The jeans seem good too.

And I agree with you on returning the bag. The color looks great, but I feel like that style of Rebecca Minkoff bag, with all the zippers and hardware, is a little played out. And if I'm noticing that, it's not nearly current enough for you!

I love both pairs of boots, and I have a boot obsession, so I'm saying keep both!

The fanny pack is fab, keep. It's quite sophisticated looking and does look intentional.

The tunic is gorgeous. I like that it is different to anything else you have. I can see a leather jacket worn over it...keep;)

I don't feel qualified to assess the shorts, but you look good in the :)

The jeans look good. Skinny and black...what's. It too love but will reserve judgment until we see the others.

The snake booties are the best. Outfit makers. So you'll have to be wise on fit. I'd totally talk myself into them. For me the could be JCE -- just comfortable enough- maybe not hiking boots but no site ties/ blister etc. because I wouldn't want them to be just special occasion.

The turtle tunic looks fine- I swear you could wear a grocery sack and look good- but it's plain. Do you need an item like it, FFBO type, or do you want more style power from it-- better color, hem detail or something.

You've been a busy shopper! I love the pointy toed footwear, really works with your looks, but at these prices if they are not comfortable (Pixy?) in the slightest they should go back! Tough love here.
I actually think you made the "fanny pack" work here. It is more a statement (and functional) belt.
The grey is lovely on you and a nice shape, but I think I see this a lot and do you feel this is special enough and like the feel?
Then listen to Suz - she is wise!

You know your style really well :)

1) I am in love with that fanny pack. Does it get better? Keep!

2) Ooohhh.... those booties are fun AND comfortable, a huge plus! But wedge oxfords are a different beast. Don't you like them anymore? Would you miss them?

3) I am in love with those booties! Will the snug fit bother you though? If it's between the black booties and these, I choose these. But only you know if they are comfortable enough for a keep.

4) The gray tunic is cute too. It fits well and I think it could be a great versatile essential for winter.

5) The shorts are TDF! No wonder your BF likes them and with legs like yours, you could take them out for a whirl too :)

As about the unpacked and already decided for return items. .... The RM bag is super cute! With your clean style, I think you can make that hardware work for you. Enabling

I am not convinced by the grey tunic, to me it looks dull and while comfortable, not very exciting.

You look terrific, as always! No need for worry on that score. So let's get down to the business of making choices.

1. I love the fanny pack. it is like a super statement belt. Fun and practical and looks amazing on you. One question -- does it dig into you anywhere when you sit? Or do you take off the little pack on sitting?

2. Love the Tuttle booties and it sounds as if they are heavenly comfortable. If you would do the one-in-one-out and have the funds, why not keep?

3. Won't comment on jeans until later but these look good and you wear jeans. Although, I must ask -- why are the ON ones unworn? Do you have other black pairs?

4. I am so besotted with the snakeskin booties I can't see straight. If they are uncomfortable and won't wear in, they must go back, but those are fantastic. I might just have to steal them from you.

5. I really like the grey tunic on you! I can see why you were drawn to it. There is something easy and flowy about it, and the proportions seem to work really well here. As you say, it is a different cut and look. Do you have a coat that will work with it if needed?

6. Love the shorts - they look great on you, and if they are at home lounge wear that forms part of a separate capsule, so yes, girl math counts!

7. I would return all items you are questioning enough not to unpack! If you have doubts now, you will probably only have regrets later.
