The grey tunic with that black vest is amazing!  You're so sweet, too. I'm OK with my breeder hips (I mean, what else can I do but accept them, they're not going anywhere!). ;-) I think we actually have fairly similar proportions, mine are just a little bigger all over. I share the short-waisted issue as well, but really, in your photo with the waist bag, I don't notice any short-waistedness, so obviously you know how to wear it well! Hopefully it will stay a fringe trend, that means I could get years of use from it.  If it catches on too strong, then I might tire of it because I'll be seeing it all over the place. In any case I've had good success with investing in fringe trends. OK so the Rebecca Minkoff bag is definitely going back, as I respect your style judgement tremendously Janet and feel our taste has quite a bit of intersect points (save for the fanny pack).  :-) BTW your hip issue is quite exaggerated and imagined, your hips are beautiful Janet.  I wish you could see that about your body, we should treasure that waist to hip ratio, my difference is 11" in the a.m. before I am bloated in the mid-section.  Maybe when you are my age you will come to appreciate what my boyfriend calls my breeder hips (LOL) a bit more. But back on topic the fanny pack is more of a challenge not because of full hips but because my waist is short, and it can further shorten ones waist if not properly styled. And I've never been a waitress, go figure. I am also unsure of the longevity of that trend, so I kind of wonder how much use you'll get out of it. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, because I think I just have a mental bias against fanny packs. Probably because of my own body issues -- the last place I need more bulk is my hips, and I don't particularly want all the stuff I'm carrying around to be attached to me in that manner, bumping against seats when I sit down, etc. I just wonder how user-friendly they are IRL. I adore the snakeskin booties -- my favorite thing you posted -- but if the comfort is not there, I would tread with caution.  Seriously, everything you posted looks really nice on you, it's just a matter of whether the items fill a need/hole in your wardrobe, considering how prevalent your uniform is in your life. I actually like the grey tunic on you -- it's a bit of a departure from your norm, but I think it looks nice as a change of pace from your usual silhouette. I especially like that it does not have to be item for item ( but ratty socks don't count for a new blazer!) even though in theory one could end up with an unbalanced wardrobe. So I often do review the item category and try to see if one same item should go, just as a practical matter and to provoke thinking--if I get this sweater, it will be in competition with some top or another, what should go? But the most important question is, which existing item is truly not getting worn, has lost its appeal, and so on so that things move in the right direction. Jenanded -- I am not doing the un-fancy.com program.  I just did it for 34 days with 34 items.  But yes you and Angie have identified that there might be some imaginary lifestyle items in this mix. Suz -- good question about the ON jeans.  They never fit right.  I thought of wearing them for a day, but I had another cut of ON jeans that stretched out so badly that I decided not to bother.  I thought if I consign or donate them unworn, they will have a higher value and be more appreciated by someone. Kiwigal -- thanks for your honesty about the gray tunic. Neel -- I don't wear the wedge oxfords anymore, I have switched to mostly low heeled booties.  My 1 in, 1 out policy is not to have precise replacements as my style wants change.  Even if I get a new sweater, which is replacing a skirt I never wear, that is ok in my mind because the overall wardrobe count is not increasing.  Does that make sense? Shevia -- I do appreciate the tough love about the color gray, and thanks for thinking the pink looks good on me.  I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep this sweater, now I'm thinking it might look good with my gray jeans for a lower contrast look. Jackiec -- yeah the booties are both pretty fabulous.  They are also both made in Italy and the quality is superb.   A quality boot is like a work of art! Elizabeth P -- I like your idea to do a serious evaluation of my other booties to see if I can find a place for the Jean-Michel Cabazats. Greyscale -- I too thought the tunic had a nice shape, and I also like that the arms and sleeves are fitted.  This actually makes it great as a layering piece.  And no surprise that you like the LD Tuttles -- we share a love of that brand! Angie -- You  are so wise to point out the realities of this haul.  I think my mind has shifted from the lessons of my capsule test to 1 in, 1 out.  But I need to be reminded of my capsule lesson, which was that my smart casual items don't get worn that much!  So with that frame of mind: <ul> <li>The most lifestyle appropriate items are the black jeans (would get a ton of wear and wash and need to be replaced once a year), the Madewell belt, and the gray tunic.  The short shorts are also a realistic item because even though I wouldn't wear them to work, I have time every day before I change for work when I am wearing casual clothes.That only my Mom and boyfriend see me in.</li> <li>The LD Tuttles, JM Cabazats and fanny pack are the most "statement" of all of the items and also more dressy and thus less truly needed.  The fanny pack might be more useful actually as I am going on a cruise with Mom to Hawaii and the belt bag looks perfect for strolling the deck and day excursions, paired with black sandals. </li> </ul> Alaskagirl -- LOL dessert before dinner.  I have a huge sweet tooth too, I think my love of shopping, fashion and dessert hang out and party in the same part of my brain! I also love both of the boots. Everything else is fine if you like it, though I am not a huge fan of the turtleneck. And as for the disciplined closet, that's a different story. With a rigorous black and white work uniform (I'm pretty sure you posted photos of this before) I can see why you would want your off duty clothes to be perfect and completely reflect your personality. You will always get a positive response from us because of that.  My concern is this: your ongoing purchasing for pieces that you can wear 1.5 to 2 days of the week - since you wear a uniform for 5 to 6 days a week. Please don't think that I want to rob you of your fashion fun - I WANT you to have all the fun in the world with fashion. But you have mentioned enough times for me to take notice over the years, how you really want your wardrobe to reflect more accurately what your lifestyle is about. You even did the 30 item project for a few months to get down to the nitty gritty. That means purchasing less for an imaginary lifestyle. I don't want to be a wet blanket, Denise. But it's my job to remind you of these thoughts too. Soooooo, in that light. Think carefully about what deserves a place in your wardrobe. I want you to have it all - but I also want you to stick to your wardrobe and closet goals. And the black ones sound so comfortable that maybe they're worth keeping even if you don't technically need them. I really like the fanny pack too! It just seems like too much of a fairly drab color with the turtleneck, long sleeves, and tunic length. The shape does look nice on you though. The shorts look good -- not indecent at all! No need for worry on that score. So let's get down to the business of making choices.  1. I love the fanny pack. it is like a super statement belt. Fun and practical and looks amazing on you. One question -- does it dig into you anywhere when you sit? Or do you take off the little pack on sitting?  2. Love the Tuttle booties and it sounds as if they are heavenly comfortable. If you would do the one-in-one-out and have the funds, why not keep?  3. Won't comment on jeans until later but these look good and you wear jeans. Although, I must ask -- why are the ON ones unworn? Do you have other black pairs?  4. I am so besotted with the snakeskin booties I can't see straight. If they are uncomfortable and won't wear in, they must go back, but those are fantastic. I might just have to steal them from you.  5. I really like the grey tunic on you! I can see why you were drawn to it. There is something easy and flowy about it, and the proportions seem to work really well here. As you say, it is a different cut and look. Do you have a coat that will work with it if needed?  6. Love the shorts - they look great on you, and if they are at home lounge wear that forms part of a separate capsule, so yes, girl math counts!  7. I would return all items you are questioning enough not to unpack! If you have doubts now, you will probably only have regrets later.
