To me they don't read as a white. They look like they tone really well with jeans for a long line. Also, they are lower contrast with your skin than either black or white. The black ones do look great with the orphaned tee, but I'm not sure you'd want to wear the combo that often. I myself fancy black shoes less in the summer.
