I think maybe if you get the size smaller, you can have the waistband sit more at your natural waist, which might create a more streamlined effect and not emphasize the hip area as much.</p> <p>I get worried about having leather alterations done, because I think that if the tailor messes up a seam, he can't just pull the stitches out without leaving visible holes. (Not sure of this; it's just my guess.)&nbsp;So I try never to have leather altered if I can help it.</p> <p>I wonder if asymmetric hems just don't work for some body types. I tried an asymmetric-hem skirt like this last year and found that it made my hips look big too. (I have wide hips for my frame.) I couldn't size down, though, because the skirt wasn't made in the next size down. But I had a sneaking suspicion that there was maybe more going on than just the size.
