Thanks all! Very helpful, you reflect a lot of what I was wondering about.

Marin and Marmee, thanks, I like the vest and will hold onto it.

Grayscale, Diana, and Suz I'm with you on the skirt, I had a mental idea, I think based on a silk skirt with drawstrings I saw once, and this one isn't it - back it goes.

I may hold onto the blazer for a bit longer as there is a longer return window and see if there is another one that works as well unbuttoned as buttoned.

Greyscale - yeah, I was drawn to the slight hipsterness ;).

Ambergreen - I was uncertain whether a blazer (or this blazer) added anything to my wardrobe too. I'm now thinking that some slightly more sharp/structured topper than a cardigan does, that is lighter than my other coats, but I'm not quite sure if this is the the one.

Lyn - good point that it's very similar to the cardigan unbuttoned - which is the way it looks best.

Jenava - unfortunately I don't have the camera now. I'm thinking, like you that it could work with some outfits, but I think I might try to find something similarly light that is a more edgy cut, and a more key neutral for me.

Carter - Thanks for the tips on an alternate blazer cut to keep an eye out for, very helpful! Like you and Erikajl mention, closed, it is kind of a block with legs. ;) Which doesn't bother me per se, but could be better.

Thank you Angie! :)

Peri - I actually think a blazer in the shape you describe could work really well for me, and might work better than this one when tried on side by side, so I'll keep an eye out. I'm finding learning through experimentation and comparison works the best for me as I'm very visual and tactile.

Deborah - yeah, I agree, I like aspects of the olive jacket, but it doesn't feel solidly 'me'.

Diana - great skirt suggestion! Unfortunately this one isn't functional, but I know exactly the kind of skirt you are talking about and always thought they were cool...

Shevia - thanks for the tip about necklines with a blazer!

Rae - yeah, I think I want length, but it doesn't have to be low stance. Thanks for the 1-2 love :)

lol JAlieen I think I agree :D

Yes to the vest and blazer. The vest is interesting and obviously can be styled lots of ways. The blazer looks great on you. They both look modern, which is your style.

No to skirt and olive jacket. The skirt is really not flattering, and the jacket is blah. They both look frumpy to me.

ETA: ok, the olive jacket is not that bad, I guess it was its proximity to the skirt that made it look bad. Sorry.

The vest looks like "you." I mean to say I can tell simply from your stylings that it feels good to you and that you'll reach for it a lot. Fantastic purchase.

I also quite like the blazer and see it as a useful addition.

I am a nay on the skirt but I may have poison eye because I tried a similar one (in a different fabrication) a couple of years ago and ended up realizing that it was truly impossible for my style and just plain difficult to wear. You have a lot more avant garde-edge to your look than I do and can definitely handle more of this kind of thing -- but, at the time, I was trying to head in that direction, and this was one of my experiments. The problem was, the skirt just made me feel silly. And didn't mix well with anything in my closet.

I am not crazy about the olive jacket, either, and hear you about layering over longer sleeves. If you think you might tend to use it in the summer (with sleeveless tops) it might be worth playing with some stylings.

I really love 1-2! LOVE!

The others don't seem too exciting. The skirt and olive jacket don't really bring an especially current look to the table, and I'm just not personally a fan of that low a stance on a blazer.

I like the vest particularly open and the blazer. I like the blazer closed best with the lower neckline shirts. Not crazy about the skirt and would need to see the olive jacket without it to say anything.

Love the vest! Definitely a keep.

I like the blazer open, but not closed.

I'm not really liking the olive jacket. It fits and looks fine, but nothing special, and the short sleeves are useless on a jacket.

The skirt I'm torn on. I like this style in theory (and like greyscale, I wanted one for a long time) but i can see it being hard to style without veering into frump territory. Are the gathers functional? If so I think ruching them up to midi length (or perhaps asymmetrically) would make it more edgy, and also give it more of a steampunk vibe.

The vest is amazing. I love that you have so many ways to wear it. A definite keeper. Blazer, I like too. Nice fit and shape and I think it could be a very useful piece. I love the skirt from an architectural and artistic perspective but I have found things like this difficult to style. I like Caro's suggestion and if you love the skirt then it's worth taking the time to see what works. The olive jacket somehow doesn't seem as "you" as the other pieces. The Loft cardigan is nice, and a great casual piece.

Another fan of the vest! So cool looking and it looks like it gives you so many options.

I also like the olive jacket...I like the fit and color for you and I think it looks useful.

Going to have to say no for the skirt! I think that would be hard to make work, but it could just be me...I just don't like it!

The blazer, hmmm, I think you could do better. I don't know much about blazers because I don't wear them, but where it buttons just looks too low on you. It sort of makes it puff out on top and look too big for you. I could be wrong, but I think blazers don't do the oversized thing too well. I could see you looking so pretty in one that nipped in at the waist and was less boxy. It could still be long, but it seems like a shaped one would suit you better.

My vote is YES for the vest. Love it in every way you showed it. I'm all for a bit of avant garde, but not sure the skirt does the trick. The blazer, not so sure about. I like it open, but when it's buttoned, it doesn't really do anything for your figure.

Mostly agree with the gallery here.

Vest is great!

Skirt to my eye would need super high-heeled goth shoes or boots and...nah. (I love a lot of goth stuff but this skirt just feels...yeah, too much.)

The olive jacket could look really nice with very sleek skinnies or a knit pencil skirt.

The blazer...not the best fit I think. You can do better. (I could see keeping it around and wearing it open if it was thrifted or something and then replace, but.)

However--I personally don't see a need for a blazer if there's no need for a blazer. I have a few from past lives that I keep around just in case, but I've come to terms with the fact that I don't need one and don't look that great in blazers really. These are points I no longer attempt to argue against.

I really like the vest. I also think that blazer fits you quite well and it looks cool in a hipster way [nb: I use this word in a positive way] rather than stiff and formal. I like it better unbuttoned.

I like #1 a lot. I also like the vest best open and drapey. I don't have a clue how to style the skirt. I think Marin's right about it. I find double breasted blazers difficult, especially with today's crazy low stance. It looks fine open, especially in the last two shots of slide 4, but it's just a big rectangle when buttoned. I'm starting to see slightly longer, higher stance single button blazers, and I think these will work better for you as they do for me. You have a very artistic style, so you really don't need super structure. Just a hint of structure will look better on you. I would wait of the blazer for the right style and fit.

I vote for the vest! Which is weird because I have such a poison eye for vests. It looks great on you, easy layer but has a nice edge to it. I really like the blazer too. Not so sure about the skirt. I know I have items that are in theory great pieces but don't necessarily work out to be great in real life. The skirt looks like it may fall in this category to me.

So I don't really have any lighter weight toppers except cardigans. For example I wore various versions this week of the long pretty warm Loft wool cardigan in #1

#2 DKNYC drapey vest thing. I like this. Cons are dry clean only but I very rarely need to clean toppers. Polyester, but I tend to run cold in a cool climate.

#3 XCVI cotton skirt and cotton olive jacket. Not sure, I like the idea of the skirt, but the bunchiness might just read as awkward rather than avant garde. The jacket is comfortable and light but the shorter sleeves make it difficult to wear over longer sleeves.

#4-6 Express blazer. I don't own a blazer - and it will mostly get worn in outfits that are this casual. I know less than nothing about blazers, but am not sure if it makes sense to wait to find another long one that curves in slightly at the waist (I have coats that fill this role though). The behind view tells me I need to for sure wear longer tailed tunics if I wear leggings with it. ;)

I think I'm a rectangle mostly from the front but a pear from the side and back -- so any advice about the shape of the blazer is most welcome.

What would you keep, and what pass on?
