Don't feel sheepish. We don't all have time to always be here. I know I don't with my health issues & other life stuff.

I like the jacket how you've styled it & fit looks good, from what I can tell on my phone. I think you can still look modern with trousers if they are a modern fit trouser. Like a cropped or slouchy or something. Maybe with a knit, fitted midi pencil in navy with a navy top for the column of colour. Modern footwear helps too. Like booties.

The fit looks good to me too. I have a similar jacket from BR but in B&W and have rarely worn it because I was trying to put it with more conservative pieces instead of casualizing it (I know that isn't a word). It could work with a ponte knit pant as well as jeans. It might be worth a try if you have a pair.

The booties and jeans look great with it. It is nice to see you back even if it is for a quick visit.

Sarah, so good to see you!

I would actually pass on this jacket (hope you don't mind me getting to the point:) ). I do think it skews too conservative and I think this will not have longevity. It sits too much in between classic and modern. I would be concerned you would tire of it quickly. I could see a moto style working well for you, or a nice classic suit style jacket, like Angie's Theory? one. Something that easily works between a jeans look and a more business/teaching look.

It is so nice to SEE you again. I love this in this outfit. The texture is fab, the fit looks good to me. I would have to see with other intended outfits, but this is a winner. I'd also try with a turtleneck which could soften the conservatism if it's fluid. I've seen you wear conservative and you are such a hip chick you pull it off without looking like a lady who lunches. Maybe edgy footwear? Maybe just pulling up on your bicycle?

First, you look fab and good to see you.
Second, one big echo of all the above. I think it will be too conservative with conservative "bottoms". Now, if your pants were dressy track pants or slouchy pants and some kind of edgy T, I think that would be great.
So, since I always have a lot of this problem, I try to think which parts of my outfits are most limited, meaning likely to run conservative--for work it is pants and skirts and even secondarily footwear. I don't wear normal toppers so I can't even use that route! So I tried to add more interesting knit tops this year.

So, if you were wearing a typical neutral pencil skirt or plain trousers, I would "invest" more style power in the jacket. You can wear shorter or somewhat cropped jacket styles--the jacket you've shown works for proportions--so the idea of knit moto styles or some bombers sounds great to me. The knits are more conservative and wearable than leather but the style is more modern.

Just chiming in to agree with the others. If you're going to wear it with dress slacks and skirts, it definitely has that conservative vibe. It would look nice with jeans and other edgy items. The Halogen and Theory jackets posted above might be better choices for your needs.

Hey Sarah, it's great to see you! I agree 100% with viva. It looks perfect like this, styled casually, but would be a potential minefield worn with suiting pieces for work. I have a love-hate relationship with jackets like this too. I love them on others and end up hating them on myself!

Sarah, this would give me pause for the same exact reason you mention - I would likely not wear a jacket with jeans for work (teaching etc.), and then it might end up looking too conservative. Personally, I have had better success with edgier jackets, such as knit motos or cropped blazer like Theory Lanai.

I really love it with the jeans. I find the Chanel jacket vibe looks especially chic when paired with more
Rugged pieces. Not sure about it with trousers. It could read a little conservative. I think the fit looks great though:) awesome to see you!! You look terrific. Adore the light booties!

Texstyle, thanks for your frank opinion. I struggle with bombers, but am wondering about motos. I'm limited by the fact that I mostly need petite sizing, so the styles are limited, and I think leather is too hot for me to wear indoors.

Sarah, it looks like it fits, to me. I will just say I have a love-hate relationship with this type of jacket. I own one, and I keep threatening to give it to Suz but I don't because it fits. But I find it a challenge not to feel overly conservative in it. If you are not a conservative dresser, or if you strive to push against that, just know you will need to remember and use Aida's advice all the time. This is a great jacket but always on the brink of ladies-who-lunch.

Thanks, everyone. You are giving me some good food for thought. One issue is that I do need jackets for work, and don't always feel comfortable wearing jeans, particularly to lecture. So, I would be tempted to wear this jacket with, e.g., a column of blue (with blue trousers), and I'm not sure that I could "de-conservativize" that sort of an outfit using, say footwear/belt...Hmmm...this gives me lots to ponder. I so appreciate your insights!

Hi Sarah, nice to see you! I hope life being busy is a Good Thing The jacket shoulder line from the front looks fine to me. From the side, the top of the sleeve strikes me as a bit overly roomy, but that could be the photograph. Overall I think it looks quite good! Great roomy, modern fit. As for styling, the jacket is a classic and more conservative style so your best bet to style it in a way that's not will be to pair with opposite type things (casual, sporty, hard edge, etc.). The way you've styled it here, with denim (casual) and light booties (refined casual), is great.

Sarah, I really like it, actually. I have a sort of sugar eye for this kind of jacket worn with denim. I don't actually own one, because every time I pick one it turns out to have problems, but I love the idea of one, and this one -- with those shoulder details -- is really striking.

You won't wear it done up, right?

Do you want to style it like this or with skirts/ trousers? If styled in the latter way I wonder if it will look too conservative. But styled with denim (or even a denim skirt) I think it totally works and the blues will work brilliantly in your wardrobe.

It is a very conservative channel esque jacket.mi will admit I purged two very similar to it, one in green and one in black and white, because they were so conservative. And I am an accountant. So maybe I just couldn't Jazz them up enough.

I feel a bit sheepish crawling back here for some fit advice, given my prolonged lurking absence, but there you have it. Life has been crazy.

I'm just wondering if you think the fit is OK in the shoulders on this jacket. I had to size up to regular (from petite) to get the sizing right, but I'm worried the shoulders might be too wide (although it seems to look better in the photo than in the mirror). I'm also wondering whether you think this jacket looks too conservative/ladies-who-lunch, or if you think it can serve as a fun, stylish jacket, mostly for work.

Thanks for your input.
