I don't see a huge difference with the winterization in full swing. I think I originally preferred how the skirt of 1 draped, but the sweater makes them pretty equal in my eyes. Go with the one you and DH love!

I also prefer #1; I think #2 is more suitable as a winter dress (darker colours), but I think #1 is more flattering.

Day Vies and I have similar taste though, I think

I still prefer #1 and I think I'm an outlier. I just like the balance of lots of fabric on the bottom with the scoop neckline on top. I also prefer the more organic flow of the print on #1. For #2 I love how regular and even the print is so much so that it looks like a lace print. I also love how it whittles your waist because the skirt is so full. I think you should keep a shape/cut like #1 in mind for spring and summer shopping.

I liked both dresses. I don't think either of the feel like winter but the 2nd dress definitely looks like it would work well to take you into the cooler weather before you hit the full on Winter Season.

I didn't see the first post. But in this post, dress #1 looks like a Spring dress with a jacket (or sweater? hard to tell) thrown on top. The second dress looks like it is appropriate for winter, probably because of the higher neckline and the higher proportion of black in the print.

If you are going to wear it with boots for now, I wouldn't rush to shorten it. For one thing, the longer length looks more wintery. For another, the boots are going to hide the shape of your calves to a certain extent. So picking the best place for the dress to hit is a moot point right now. When the weather turns warmer, that will be the time to decide if it will be more flattering at a shorter length.

i missed the original post. I like #2, but also might like it an inch or two shorter. Suz has a good point. Only a few of my dresses can span several seasons. And that's fine! 2 sweaterdresses only see winter weather and 3 spaghetti strap sundresses only see summer

I didn't reply to the first K/R post on these dresses because my opinion was out of synch with everyone else's, and when that happens I generally think my eye is off. But I liked the second one then and I like the second one now - at its current length. Then again, I tend toward darker colours, too. But I prefer the fit, the neckline, the length and the smaller, busier pattern than on the first one. I would keep #2, especially since your DH prefers it.

Thistle, 2 MAY be the more practical choice. But let me tell you my own thinking.

Your climate might be similar to mine. We have four main seasons. In truth, we also have 2 more mini-bridge seasons....late-winter-early-spring (when you really need winter warmth still but the light seems to demand spring colours) and late-summer-early-fall (when the temps are still very warm but the light is beginning to fade and you yearn for richer colours.)

I actually have VERY few clothes that span all my seasons. It's just not possible. The light linens I wear in true summer have no place in my winter closet. The wools and cashmeres that I need in winter are downright ridiculous, not only in a good portion of my spring and fall.

Yes, there are one or two polyester jersey dresses (like your green one in the other post) that I manage to wear year round -- particularly if I am going to be someplace air conditioned (which in my case, isn't all that often).

But for the most part, I trade items out. So, that means I have items that I mostly wear in 6 - 8 week blocks, then trading them out for others.

The warm winter dress that I wear from late November through late February gets traded for the lighter weight dress. And that lighter weight dress in turn gets traded, come summer, for something lighter still.

The cross seasonal dresses stay in the closet, but the others rotate.

Now, I admit, this means I have a lot less variety within any one 6-8 week block. But for some reason that doesn't bother me too much. Because when I switch up the closet, it's like I've got half a new wardrobe and I get to try out new combinations.

I do my switching purely by the weather. If it starts getting warm earlier, out come the "spring" things. If it's still cold, I keep with the winters.

I do this mainly with dresses and toppers, by the way, as well as a few of my pants.

It might be easier for me, however, because I work from home and my outings take me to different settings.

Before packing up one of the dresses to return, as I really do not need two black and white floral print fit and flare dresses, I tried them on for DH one last time “winterized”. It actually changed his mind over which one to keep.

He thought the second one "winterized" better, and he agrees we have a lot of cold here. These would be for fall, spring and summer, not winter, but this is how I would style them.

I was originally going to return #2, but DH has me thinking. What do you fab ladies think? Keep 1, keep 2, return them both as neither winterizes well. (I am wearing my shorter knee high boots as the skirts are longer)
