I still wear square toe boots because I cannot find any replacement with 13 inch circumference x 13 inch shaft. But also, I don't know what it is, but I like the square and snipped toe look for shoes. In fact I have a pair of snip toed mules --in trendy cognac-- which you've now inspired me to drag out and wear! Kiwi, your boots look dated to me simply because they are worn-looking ---  but I do know that cobblers can do miracles! I would take them to the cobbler and see what they can do. I would do this especially if you have trouble finding boots that fit.
