Thanks jurocha for the insightful post. It does make me think how style preferences change drastically even when we are the same people!

I loved to hear about your style preferences changing, @Neel. I am a newbie myself, trying to get a better hold of what is "me" when it comes to fashion, so please take my comments with a grain of salt!

I like the pattern on your skirt and the way you styled it with the jeans jacket. IMHO, a patterned bubble skirt is the kind of garment on which a lot goes on... you see, the bubble cut calls your attention and it is not a cut most of us use or see very often. Plus the print, it is also eye-catching. So once you sport this garment, you better play WITH (not against) it, making the skirt THE focal point of your outfit.

Of course, color repetition (like you do with the pink top) works. But I still find it better to keep the top as simple and as neutral as possible. So... white tee it is! That way the skirt can really shine.

That said, if the lenght is an issue or if your style preference changes no longer allow super cute, feminine looks: pass it own. I guess @Trasconna Shanon's selection of Angie's quote is spot on: if it's too much work, pass it own. Clothes should work for you and not the other way around.

Last but not least, despite style preferences changes, I do believe that keeping a few "alternative looks" (if you dress edgy most of time, having a killer - important word here being killer - ultra-feminine look) in our wardrobe help both on those days where "nothing looks good" and to keep our mind open to venturing outside our comfortable zone.

I think I might wear it a few times styled like number 5 and like Angie approved number 1 (with a roomier version of the same top) and see how it all goes :)

I wish to give this poor little skirt a chance! Those two looks do feel more me, than the rest. I think the pink top is not working very well due to the details on it. I might try a solid blush pink. The juvenile and length issue would still be there though. I hope I can work with it for a few more wears.

Thank you for all the suggestions! You rock :)

I have added a new picture (pic 5) of the restyled skirt based on suggestions given by everyone. I dug out a white cami just to check the effect of the suggestions given and also added my brown skinny belt.

I think I like it better now. It feels a bit more me! A wider belt would be better I guess but I dont have any at this point. Do let me know your thoughts.

@Shannon - LOL! Thank you for the compliment! But really its not that great! A low definition camera can't capture stretch marks and cellulite :D I do find the skirt a bit juvenile! So you are spot on with that! And I appreciate honest responses because without that I am not improving! Thanks for pointing that out. And you are also right about making clothes work for you! I tend to not wear anything that requires too much thought!

@Day Vies - I love how you can mix colors! And I can visualize that a belt would surely add a touch of sophistication to the outfit. Love the navy blue skirt/pant suggestion. I think the colors would look luscious! Thanks a ton for that!

I love the looks that you have posted Emily! I now understand the proportions and how the skirt should be styled. I however do not seem to own a white/cream solid tank (??!!).

The skirt length is not a *very* big issue. But I do not seem to love anything that requires too much thought or is too fussy. I also seem to increasingly dislike very girly looks (which I used to like earlier ... when I started my style journey) I loved my maxi dresses, maxi skirts and frilly tops. Now I seem to lean towards spikes, studs, glitters, sneakers, leather, camo, oversized, cropped and fluid. The bubble hem is what drew me to this skirt. But I didnt think it would be this hard to style :(

I find my style to be now clean, non fussy and edgy. Which I like. I think this skirt just doesn't let me feel that way I think I am answering my own question!

Thank you for the legs compliment! They look toned in the pic but they are not Pictures can hide a multitude of sins

#3 is my favorite because untucked seems to suggest the added volume of the skirt is intentional. The untucked tank also contrasts with the prim feel of the skirt's print. I love the the print and colors. I think the reason you don't love this skirt is because there is a lot of volume and not a lot of shape. This is why although the jacket in #4 matches and is a nice edgy teal (delicious) moto it doesn't do much for this outfit because it's just as voluminous as the skirt. .

#1 - I like the pattern mix and the addition of gray but there's volume on top and bottom. The combo needs contrast between fits (close fit vs. volume) to really pop.

#2 is nice and safe. Try a mid-tone purple/violet, cognac, or navy blue wide belt to add dimension and define your waist. It doesn't have to be a cincher belt just wide enough to be noticed and create a line of demarcation between your top and bottom. Feel free to wear higher or lower than your natural waist.

Try the tank and jacket with dark blue/navy slim fit jeans or pencil skirt and you'll love the effect. I hope this helps!

First things first Neel - you have got GORGEOUS legs! Seriously.

Now to the skirt - I think the fact that you have only worn it once in all the time you've had it is a strong indication that you're not feeling any love for it. If there's one thing I've learned since joining YLF is that I shouldn't have to work so darned hard to make an item play nice, you know? As Angie would say, our clothes are supposed to work for us, not the other way around.

I'm afraid I do find the skirt to be a little short and the pattern combined with the length makes it a wee bit juvenile looking IMHO. I hope you don't mind me being so honest

What drew you to the skirt, and what are your reservations, other than length? When I did my big cull a ways back there were a few things I bought because I liked the colours or the way the item made me feel when I saw it in my closet, but really they didn't feel like "me" or they didn't fit quite right so I never wore them out. It's totally okay to let that stuff go.

Now, setting aside my poison eye for bubble skirts, The print is pretty, and the colours are really nice on you. You have great legs, the length looks perfectly demure to me, and I quite like your choice of shoe. The overall impression is very casual and summery.

The bubble hem and bright print skew pretty young, so to my eye you'd want to counteract that with the rest of the outfit and I think the look needs to be at least a bit arty, like Thistle suggested. I like the proportion of the tucked-in top in picture #2, but what about a white tank or blouse and cropped denim jacket? Maybe a leather belt knotted around the waistband of the skirt to add a little structure?

This is what I'm getting at....
http://lookbook.nu/look/184475.....rt-Topshop
http://www.chictopia.com/photo.....l-skirt-vi
http://lookbook.nu/look/186721.....intage-Red

I really like the cropped sweater and jacket, and I think the jewel toned brights are gorgeous on you.

I had seen Diana's thread earlier and I think the solid color of her skirt is much easier to style and the skirt is much more dramatic than mine which makes it a statement piece by itself. This printed skirt is driving me nuts.

I do have shorter length skirts in the pencil or the non flared types. But I usually wear a hose. A flared skirt of this length makes me feel exposed. I dont think a hose would work with this either. I think this skirt might get the chop earlier than I had expected it to.

Hmmm, I am not loving the skirt. A bubble skirt is very tricky to pull off IMHO, and I think it is really for those arty eclectics out there!

It is also too short for your liking, and I am not sure you can let down the hem on a bubble skirt. The length issue alone would make me pass it on.

I do think the pink top works with it if you do decide to keep it. I hope Diana sees this thread. She recently came into a bubble skirt and she rocked it! But then, she threw figure flattery out the window with it and really went arty.

This bubble hem skirt of mine was purchased about a year and a half back and it's been worn only once! The length is a little too short for my liking (I am not sure why I bought it!).

Pic 1 - With a cropped sweater (Please also suggest if the top is a K/R. I am not very sure if the color suits my skin tone. I also need to size up as the sleeves are a bit too snug)

Pic 2 - Top tucked in (I am short waisted and I wonder how this looks to others)

Pic 3 - Untucked top, just scrunched a bit

Pic 4 - Playing around with my green jacket which I am still wondering whether to K/R

The footwear might not be appropriate but I didn't put enough thought into that. This skirt has been very difficult and I hate that fact! I think I might go the culling way but not before I get atleast a few more wears! What do you all think? K/P?

I am in a major wardrobe revamp/culling process. So there would be many more K/P posts from me! Sorry for that! But I hope to do it faster with the help of you fabbers. Thanks for your input in advance!
