JAileen, can’t you wear them over you winter jackets or gathered to substitute a shawl (if they are not too thick and large).

Thanks for your support DonnaF! I understand the issue with the cross-body bags. I don’t normally wear cross-body bags, don’t like the pressure against my shoulder, which starts aching after a while. I normally wear satchels, which I carry in my hand or above my wrist. This works perfectly with ponchos. As you, I also struggle with holding clutches. Like cross-body and clutches on other people.

I have five ponchos. I love them, but with our weather extremes, it's either too hot or too cold, so I don't get many chances to wear them.

Buy those ponchos while you can find ones you like! I am learning that I don't like ponchos and pullovers because I don't like pulling them over my head plus cross-body bags don't work with ponchos. I also struggle with holding clutches. But all those things I enjoy on others!

Thank you all guys for giving me your views and advice on the knitted ponchos. It helps deciding.

Lisa p, I agree, the big trend when there were so many ponchos out there is now on the downswing. The question is now if or how much I should take it into consideration.

Isabel, I like the clogs comparison, good point. I wear black wooden patent leather clogs somertime with wide silk pants and love them. Also have a golden version... I do not worry if they are trendy or not.

Nancy W, I can’t agree more, the ponchos are perfect for cool office, cool summer nights etc. very practical.

Cindy, thanks for showing your great poncho! Cool and unique.

TheCat, good analysis, thanks for that. The ponchos I am fond of are rather short, in fine knitt in solid colors, they can be used as “hybrid pullovers”. This is how I usually wear them - over a shirt with a silk scarf together with dressy trousers or a pencil skirt for more casual office days.

I think I will not give them up quite yet. Ordered a new one now in grey wool alpaca blend, it was marked down by 80 % . I will try to post a picture when it arrives.

Have a lovely weekend!

Modern classics, but they were very trendy last year. And to me, ponchos will forever be connected wit the 70's. (In my mind, they are easily associated with old jeans, cowboy boots, unwashed hair, cowboy hats, flower-power and hippies. )

I absolutely don't hate knitted ponchos. But I only own one, bought last summer. It's a summer item, rather thin and in a wonderful pattern of blue and torquoise tones plus white.

Apart from that one, I haven't recently seen any poncho which really appeals to me and would suit my body and style as well as my lifestyle. But if and when I do, I will happily buy and wear it.

Some of my friends sport ponchos that are relatively short and look modern. They wear them with pants and pencil skirts and look great.

It sounds like you love ponchos. If they work for you and are an easy part of your style, don't worry too much about their longevity. Some people stock up on blazers, others on cardigans, so why shouldn't you stock up on ponchos if they make you happy and are essential to your style?

Modern classic. Great for spring and fall, offices that are too cool or that fluctuate in temperature all day and for the hot flashing years. Might they be marked down because winter has arrived? Although the coats and jackets in every store in our mall are marked down too.

When ponchos aren't trending, I think they're kind of one of those staple pieces that never really looks "out". I was gifted a vintage ruana when a friend was downsizing to move, 100% wool made in Colombia bought in Bogota in 1986. It definitely reads Bohemian (which isn't really me), and I don't care if it's dated or not, I love it and I love the story behind it so I wear it when the urge strikes me.

I've never worn one but I don't think it's an item that dates, really. They might be more on trend than not but they're not really ever out. Your style and what you wear them with makes all the difference, like clogs.

Interesting question - and I've wondered the same. I too loaded up on them when they first were trending, but find the window for wearing them so short where I live that I had to stop being tempted by every one I saw. I wore mine a lot last year ; this past year? Not so much. I think the trend is already on the downswing.....

Hello fashion lovers!

For about two years ago, I started wearing knitted ponchos. I started with a thin black one in a medium length (a Danish brand Ilse Jacobsen), fell in love with it and bought some multiples, also in blush and then another one in creme of another brand. I find them very easy to wear, flattering to my body shape and easy to dress up with scarves, brooches, fur collars etc.
This winter, I have seen many great knitted ponchos on sale, many cost under half of the original price. I am very tempted to buy a couple of them in grey and beige and perhaps another black one.
What I wonder, however, is how long the look will still be modern. Will it soon look dated? Is this why the style is on sale at so many places?

In other words - a trend or a modern classic?

What is your opinion of a knitted poncho? Do you like it or hate it? Or is it getting passé?
