Hmmm, honestly, I can't decide either! Count yourself lucky that you found not one but TWO pairs of boots that work. I also find that the 3 buckles on the Esmereldas are a little busy - I would have just preferred one on the top myself but these were the only ones that worked at all so I didn't really have a choice. Since I intend to wear these for more casual looks, it works but I agree that these would not be dressy boots to wear with a sleek dress.

Trix, the shorter dress is a MUST for shorter length boots. I blogged about that recently actually:

Thanks so much everyone for the feedback and reassuring words!

Melanie: It's reassuring to hear that you think the shorter boots and short dress go together. You made me go out and buy another pair of patterned tights because these ribbed ones are (literally) on their last legs!

RoseandJoan: I can definitely relate to the not being able to decide -- why else is this Post #3 on boots? What's really sad is that I've had the dress for at least ten years but have worn it in public only once. I think I chicken out because it's on the short side, but I think maybe the tights-and-boots combo could change my mind.

Kellygirl: Thanks for the opinion on the dress and the nice words in general! Maybe I should check with the cobbler to see if he can somehow tack the top of the boot so that I don't have to worry about fidgeting with it.

Greenglove: You know, you've totally pinpointed it: These boots are indeed too busy for a sleek dress. I have to figure out how Shana made the same boots work in her pix earlier -- I think she was wearing a scarf and lighter colors. Maybe I'll experiment this weekend.

I think this is going to be it for the boot search. I've wasted far too many hours poring over online shops, waiting for UPS packages and bundling up the returns for the store. Well, just in time for cold weather at least...I'm hoping to get a lot of use out of them this winter! Thanks again everyone for all the useful advice and opinions!

I love the dress and the shorter boots, with or without hose. The taller boots seem to have too much going on to be streamlined enough for the dress. You have no worries in the arm department!!

I really like both boots with the dresses. I don't think the short boot are too short with the above the knee dresses--particularly if you wear hose. I think the short boots show off your shapely legs. I also quite like the grey dress. It's very nice on you and doesn't make you look top heavy at all. Your arms look very slim--no worries there.

The only picture I question is the grey dress with the Esmereldas. It could just be your stance--but in that picture, the boots seem too big at the top. As long as you can cinch them down like you did in the other pictures, I think you're good to go! Nice job on the boots!!

Your Inc dress is fabulous, I loved both pair of boots with this dress and I have deleted this part of the sentence four times because I can't decide which boots I prefer.

My favourite pic is the last, the over the knee dark dress with the ribbed tights and the La Canadiennes. Tres chic. Both the boots are lovely, but personally I think you have great legs and look best in a shorter length. Arms look good to me.

Hello all! After a busy week, I'm finally back with more boot pictures for your consideration. After Shana's post about her Ecco Esmereldas, I decided to try them on again and found that with a little adjusting (or perhaps I was trying on a different year's model?), I could get the top of the boot to fit me better. (BTW, Shana, I think the height difference has to do with the boot size. In size 39, the shaft of these boots is a hair above 13.5".)

I'm comparing the La Canadienne Tias (12") to these boots in these photos. Out of curiosity, I decided to try on dresses of different lengths, with and without tights. I think the shorter boots are good with the knee-length dress but look too short with the above-the-knee dresses, but I'd love to hear your opinions. I got a little careless with adjusting the top of the Esmereldas by the time some of the later photos were taken, so keep in mind that they can be adjusted to look a bit more snug than in these pictures.

And while I'm at it, could I ask if you think the gray dress is a keeper? I like most things about the dress except the sleeves: I think the cap sleeves make me look even more top-heavy and emphasize the size of my upper arms (which, sadly, are getting out of shape). Thoughts?

Thanks all!
