MaryK, thank you so so much! I LOVE your style and the pictures you included were exactly what I had hoped to see. They are not "dressy dress" boots but they definitely look professional in those outfits and that's what I am looking for. Now for the fit part...they come up about 1" higher on me and there is currently not a sliver of space - they definitely need to be stretched at least 1/4", I think. They'll never fit me as loosely as they fit you but part of why I'm really trying to convince myself to keep them is because I feel like they make my calves look skinny. And since that's the part of my body I've always sort of felt off about, I really value that. Thank you again!

Ah, Shiny, I dream of your problem (not to minimize it - I just feel like my calves are so out of proportion for the rest of my body). I have found that I can't really trust the height and circumference listed. Zappos and I have a nice relationship that unfortunately involves more returns than keeps. ;)

I will try to figure out how take my picture in these things (at least one on my not-swollen ankle) and post so you can see. In the meantime, thanks so much for your advice, and if there are any others with dressed-up pictures of the Rorys I would love to see them.

Hi there and welcome to the forum! I'm a fellow 5-footer so I very well know your tall boot woes. I have not bought new tall boots in over 5 years; not for lack of trying! I was lucky in that when tall boots first came back into fashion, I found several pairs, so I am set. Then the fashion cycles moved into extended calves and taller boots that just do not fit me at all. (I need 13 inch shaft height, and 13 inch circumference).

I can't say about the Fryes. A pic would be helpful. Until then, a handy tip for you, if you haven't already figured it out: you can filter by shaft height and circumference on Zappo's. It depresses me when I do that, since the pickings in my size are so very very slim... maybe you will have better luck.

I have the Frye Rory boots in three colors and I only wear them pulled up to the knee. Here are a couple of photos of me wearing them fairly dressed up! (I'm 5'2"!)

Hi Kellygirl, thanks for my response. I am on the East Coast and ran off to bed last night after posting, sorry! My sense from the thick heel is that they are more casual too. But everything I've read about them says people think they can be dressed up too, I'm guessing when worn pulled up as I'm planning, so I was hoping that would be validated here. I don't know how to post pictures yet and actually I have a sprained ankle at the moment so I can't really model them but based on the picture and style of boot I think I might be leading myself astray. I haven't found a picture of Angie, MaryK or Kari dressing them up - all the pictures I've seen show them scrunched down and more casual looking. If you or anyone has a picture of them dressed up that would be really helpful. Thanks!

Good question. I think its the scrunch that makes them more casual than dressy--that and the thick heel. I've seen Angie, MaryK and Kari dress them up and down--over skinnies and with dresses/skirts. It's hard to tell how they fit without a picture. Perhaps you can post one later?

Hi, I'm a newbie around here and haven't figured out how to post pictures or links yet, so bear with me. I got the Frye Rory Slouch boot in black during the rock-bottom 6pm sale (paid $135). I think I love them, but...I wonder if they fit me and fit my needs. I've looked at all forum and blog posts about these boots and I just can't decide. The leather is awesome and the 2.5" height is doable for me though it's at the top of my usual comfort. I'm not sure whether they work on me though. First off, can they be dressy, or are they pretty casual (the thick heel makes me think too casual)? Secondly - do they fit me right? I'm <5ft tall and ~116lbs right now. I have THICK calves, which is a problem compounded by my (lack of) height. I have been looking for years for the perfect knee-high black boots that I can wear for work and casual settings. I plan to wear these pulled up all the way (NOT scrunched) under pants, dresses, and skirts. At my current weight (still breastfeeding/losing baby weight), I can pull up the boot to just under my knee and it's TIGHT. I expect that this will stretch or I can take it to be stretched, but I'm afraid to stretch too much because I do want these to stay up comfortably. Am I asking too much of these boots? Am I being seduced by the deal I got and the Frye quality? Help, please!
