Thanks AG. Most of the sales people I talked to seemed to prefer the quartz but one acquaintance who has had hers for only a year regrets the choice as hers has chips and she is very careful with it. I figured it was a trade off between the quartz not staining and the granite not burning.

Have a lovely holiday with the family.

Hey Dianthus! We went with the granite because we lotoked at a couple of places where the seller had used granite and quartz in their showroom, and the granite seemed to have held up better. I don't know if there's much difference between the manufactured quartz vs. natural quartz, though. Also, to be honest, the slab of granite we liked was available more quickly!

The glass tiles are gorgeous. I have yet to see whether they are high maintenance. But it is fun seeing how all our choices are working out in real life. I LOVE that we got a slideout garbage/recycle cabinet - makes it so easy to just clear stuff into the trash. And we have these "kick drawers" that use the space at the very bottom of the floor cabinets for flat items. Look into them if you haven't - very good use of wasted space!

Love the new kitchen AG. I have been picking kitchen finishes for the house and was thinking about a glass tile for the backsplash. Yours looks gorgeous. I also love the sink and the faucet is a work of art.

While I have been browsing, I saw a bathroom vessel sink in green butterflly granite. I think it might match your counter. Very nice.

I have been debating between granite and quartz for the counters and am interested in the reasoning for you choice. A lot of people love the quartz for the lack of color variation but I am drawn to the movement in the granite.

Oh wow, it looks great! Totally worth all the effort and nerves. I like the dark countertop, my parents have similar dark marble at home, together with light cherry wood. Although theirs is already 12 years old. I love your glass tiles!

Suz, yes, we have the same counters! Why does that not surprise me? It seems very popular at the moment - hoping it will not be totally dated because it's a craze! I am really loving both the looks and function (was finally able to cook AND eat dinner at home) - something about an inviting kitchen is soothing.

And Shannon, I'm so happy to see how you described it through your eyes, because I told my husband I wanted a "rustic modern edgy" kitchen, and he thought I was nuts. I wanted the homey warmth of the hickory without the typical down-home country lodge aspect and instead a more streamlined graceful look. Hope that's coming across!

Ramya, my mom and I did a little Ganesh puja - never heard of the boiled milk. But it will happen - hot cocoa is always on the menu!

Gorgeous, Una!! Hey, your countertops look like ours, exactly....I think ours are called Verde butterfly or something (although that sounds bizarre now that I think of it). Anyway - FAB fashionable kitchen; it looks totally workable, too! But best of all you don't have to cook Christmas day anyway! Smart woman.

Oh Una, THAT kitchen is worth all the stress and anxiety that you've been through the last few weeks. Those glass tiles really bring the space alive; it was such a good decision to go with them.
