Too bad they aren't the "real deal", but they both look pretty on you. If they weren't expensive, then maybe you'll still feel like you got your money's worth.
I just bought a $19 kimono jacket at Forever 21; it's unlined, but fits me and I like the print. I wore it over a white tee and jeans, and got a compliment. So I'm happy.

I'm a huge fan of the kimono style jackets. I fell in love with them watching Notting Hill, when Julia Roberts wore that beautiful ice blue silk kimono jacket, with a simple white tank and jeans. It was divine!! My ideal outfit!! (I'm yet to find the perfect kimono for me, as I've lusted after that pale blue one ever since then!).

Keep! Wear! Love!!

Hi Deborah, our second warm day this Spring is here!
I can see the issues you have with the white/coral, especially with the sleeves. I think they would be better shortened and/or narrowed to achieve a higher happiness factor. The colours are gorgeous on you.
The blue looks quite good to my eye, and I like the way you have styled it with Tee and jeans.

I applaud your creative energy and openness to trying new styles! I think these have some promise. Sometimes a less than perfect garment can allow us to explore a new silhouette or color without taking a big plunge.

I'm fascinated that Zara, which copies high end looks, has spawned its own knock-offs. The pieces are pretty. I hope you find they fit the bill you were seeking to fit.

So interesting, Deborah! It's a shame the quality is not there, and I fully understand your frustration about that. Through YLF and more careful shopping, I have developed a real pickiness or perhaps not developed it, but learned to honour my natural pickiness, LOL. Which I sometimes tried to ignore in the past but find much harder to ignore now.

Despite their imperfections, these look pretty on you and I hope you can get some use of them. But I share your feeling about the wide sleeve. I didn't really care for it on myself, either. I enjoy wearing the kimono that was already in my closet because it is a bit stiffer in construction so the wide sleeve doesn't just flop around. And the sleeve is somewhat shorter on me as well. It seems to work better for me.

I really sympathize with your disappointment Deborah - I have been extremely lucky with my eBay purchases but I know many who have had a less pleasant experience :(

That having been said, I really like both of these on you and as Lantana has pointed out, in movement no one (not even you) will notice any type of excess fabric or flaw because of the beautiful fluidity.

The white/orange combination is especially gorgeous with your coloring and will look positively smashing with white bottoms in particular.

Play with them - I know these can and will work with your wardrobe beautifully

I hear your disappointment and I do see some of the issues you mention. I think the saving grace of both items is their fluidity. When you move you will be breaking and recreating silhouettes constantly. I think the colours and designs are pretty and it's nice for you to have a touch of Bloomsbury in your wardrobe.

Hi Fabbers!

I have now received both Kimono jackets I ordered of
Ebay.

Both jackets I recognised as being Zara designs, however
they were not advertised as Zara and my assumption was that they were
Zara-esque or similar, as you might find in the bricks and mortar stores.

Well it appears that they perhaps fit best into the category
of ‘knockoffs” with the tags reading “ZAPA Woman” (and I don’t think Frank Zappa has launched
his own clothing line)!

So, I thought I would give you a bit of a review along with
my conclusion.

#1 - #5 is actually quite lovely. It’s is reasonably well made but having checked
the measurements of all the garment segments it’s not quite ‘even’. The fabric is a cotton / poly blend but is
quite nice to the touch and I think I am going to enjoy wearing it. The neckline has been difficult to keep in
place, despite pressing – I don’t think the lining ‘fits’ the jacket perfectly.
The colours are great and exactly what I was expecting.

#6 - #8 is more disappointing. Upon pressing it, I discovered that there is
additional fabric in areas i.e. it you press the arm flat, the fabric doesn’t
fit flat, there is extra that would create a fold if pressed that way. (hope
that makes sense). The blue is almost a teal toned blue and not the darker navy that I had been expecting.

I can return but would have to pay return post and I don’t
think it’s worth it. I will keep them
both and wear them as I had intended for casual wear. I had the idea to wear them with light weight scarves
(explore my boho side lol) which will help to hide any imperfections. Having said all this, the faults were not
obvious, I did have to look for them.. but they weren’t hard to find.
Worn and in movement, I think they are ‘ok’.

It was an interesting exercise, and I do want to say that
the Zara vest I bought on Ebay recently appears to be the real deal and I am very happy
with it.

I don’t think I would buy like this again. Angie has been such a good teacher of the
value of quality and fit that an appreciation for well made garments, at any
price point, has become a very important part of my purchasing reasoning.

I have also confirmed in the process that the kimono style, particularly the wide sleeve design is not the best for me. I did know that, but sometimes I find myself so easily seduced!

Thanks for reading and I hope you can forgive my shopping transgression.

xxx Deborah
