So many great ideas! I was a SAHM for years and can identify. Also I see lots of moms who volunteer to assist in my classes each week. To the ideas above I'd add that you should not let your hair style go. Keep it trimmed regularly.

For another top idea with jeans, I'm loving my long sleeved Sweet Pea tops with a tissue-weight scrunchneck. (I found some nice long ones at Target for $12.99 in a limited variety of colors and bought them in black, brown, charcoal, eggplant and a sort of dark rusty red.) The layers are comfortably warm and washable. I even think mixing a geometric print with microcheck pants would be interesting.

I have to agree with the mom's on the boots thing. They have been the staple in my fall dressing. I always feel a little killer when I'm wearing boots, regardless of what else I happen to be wearing.

I think my kids are little bit older than many of you who have posted--and I think that does make a difference. For starters, I don't have to worry about sticky fingers or finger painting anymore. Not that my kids don't finger paint or get stinky fingers, but they just know not to come near me when they are messy like that. Also, older kids are so much more independent that they don't WANT me helping them in the mornings--so I do have more time to focus on myself. SO hang in there ladies--it gets a lot easier!

And I am still a firm beleiver in wearing a necklace or earrings on a regular basis. It's such a small step in the "getting ready" process, but it can make a bland outfit pop.

One other policy I try to adhere to, is I try to wear at least one unusual, or somewhat statement piece each day. It may not be "statement" to someone who dresses in high end designer wear, but it's a "statement" to the rest of my outfit.

Oh and Patience, I will post photos of the skinnies and Merrells after I get over being mad at Photobucket (or maybe my internet service provider) - I must've wasted 30 mins trying unsuccessfully to upload photos. Ugh.

What super stylish moms we have on YLF! I actually took a couple of index cards and wrote down some of the suggestions so I can post them in my closet for my next bleary-eyed morning when I have no idea what to wear (probably tomorrow). The ideas for tops were especially helpful.

Patience, I hope you rock your new grey Docs on the playground -- gotta love that image!

Jwomak, several regulars to this site have the Mia skinnies from Express. They are normally about $60, but with all the sales going on now, you can probaly get them for less.

I am at SAHM and my go to thing lately is belts to add polish to the outfit. I wear lots of cardigans with knit shirts underneath. Sometimes I belt the cardi or other times the shirt underneath with an open cardi. I also have lots of v-neck sweaters with camis. I wear jeans practically everyday -- straight leg with flats or boot cut with low heel ankle boots. Add a cool piece of jewelry and I feel polished but comfortable.

I want to add the skinnies/boots to my wardrobe. Any suggestions on good quality but not break the bank skinnies? I would like to add several pairs.

I don't think I own much that falls into this category but the outfits I've been putting together mostly involve cardigans (short and long) and my straight leg jeans. I've also really loved the dress over jeans look but I never found a shirt dress with long sleeves that wasn't black so I wasn't able to take the look into cooler weather. I need to bulk up my winter smart casual wardrobe, so I, too, will be watching these responses.

I am also not a mom, but have fairly similar wardrobe requirements and love all the suggestions. It looks that skinnies tucked into boots are the most popular choice, so I'll try to give some top suggestions there :)

Here are some ideas:
o Short sleeve sweaters layered over long sleeved shirts, bonus points for mixing patterns, e.g. argyle sweater over striped shirt and skinnies
o sweaterdress over skinnies
o long boyfriend cardigan layered over knit top/blouse and skinnies
o short slightly swingy jacket/chunky sweater with shorter sleeves layered over thin long-sleeved turtleneck ( could be striped) and skinnies

(Orbit take off!!!) You Mums are so stylish I can barely stand it. A very big thank you from me for keeping the Mummy style quotient SO HIGH. You have made my day.

It also depends how cold you get. If I were Mum, this would be my flop proof Seattle outfit:

o	Skinnies in flat riding boots or docs, knitwear, (sometimes with a button down, and sometimes not) plus fun coat and scarf
o	OR, denim skirt, stockings, knitwear, casual belt, short warm biker jacket and scarf

Not sure if it qualifies as killer, but this season I got 2 vests and I've been wearing them a lot. I find that they can bring any outfit up a notch, even if I wear them over something casual like a t-shirt. They also keep the top in place and eliminate concerns about bra showing or other mishaps (I have a toddler and a 10-month old, so things can get rough :))

My weekend outfit for soccer games and the like:
Skinnies tucked into boots, simple v-neck sweater with a cami underneath that peeks out at the bottom, pretty scarf. I vary the actual pieces and the colors but it is definitely a "floop proof" kind of outfit that always works. You can see an example here: http://s291.photobucket.com/al.....G_0065.jpg (password is "youlookfab")

Thank you, Laura! I'll definitely be following this thread even though I work too.
How about

o motorcycle jacket
o converse and straight legs
o riding boots with skinnies tucked in (I wore this to my daughter's soccer game last weekend and got lots of compliments)

I'll especially be paying attention to ideas for tops.

PS Are the boots the ones you posted about a while ago? I'd love to see a picture of them on you.

I saw Patience use this phrase in the Doc Martens thread and completely love it!

What items are the moms here using in their wardrobe that are completely killer (killer meaning not only totally stylish but also incredibly practical) on the playground, at the grocery store, in the carpool line, wherever?

I'll start ...
1. Skinnies with grey suede Merrell slouchy boots
2. Cowlneck sweaters with button-downs underneath
