Great! I am so thrilled to find out it has good recommendations. I think the pre-teen age is the best (DH disagrees) when girls seem to come into their own and are super confident, not afraid of the world, that blend of naive and bold that I wish we all had !
I don't know if this interest in fashion will last but whatever inspires her is fine with me.

So cool! I have asked mom to send as gift to my girls. They love these 'draw your own outfit' coloring books! SO I know they are interested in fashion!

My older, 13, asked me to take her shopping in the big city (i.e. Oslo) today. Oh what fun! She wants to try and be more daring in her clothes. Apparently there are a few girls already jumping out into wild styles like goth and UWP and she is getting brave enough to try! So adorable!

I've skimmed it - it looked terribly cute; and much better than Teen Beat. *barf*

I don't know it personally, but when we started with YLF Books I remember that forum member Small But Mighty recommended it in the comments on this blog post:
http://youlookfab.com/2011/10/03/ylf-books/

This is what she wrote:
"Inge, I have a magazine recommendation to make, and that’s Kiki magazine. It’s a small, obscure magazine for young girls. As we all know, the media bombard women with messages about what is wrong with us and how we should conform. Being on this forum is part of our recovery for most of us, right? Well I adore Kiki magazine, and I was very sorry when my daughter outgrew it. I think that lots of the YLF women would love it for the young women in their lives, because it’s all about the love of fashion and individual personal style without creating body image issues, or encouraging senseless conformity. Check it out. I hope you agree that it’s a good fit!!"

Hope this helps.

Has anyone perused Kiki Magazine? It is aimed at the 11-14 set from what I can from their website. DD saw it at grocery store today and wanted it but I told her we would look for it later - last time I bought her an unknown mag it turned out to be too mature for her.

This looks very fashion and creativity oriented which I am fine with. She doesn't need the classic teen mag stuff - boys, dating, dieting/negative body image etc. as she is 11 in July. I think she's mature enough for early discussions but her father would flip. Luckily he never read Judy Blume as a boy!

If anyone has feedback on the magazine or anything similar let me know - I might pick it up as surprise this week and get her a subscription if it seems to have positive messages.
