Zap, it looks like you copied and pasted the advice to all the types or something, and it all runs together.

Is your Dramatic mixed with another type with some yin in it because of your curves?

I hope you're wearing your new coat today! It is the most amazing thing ever!

Deleting error post.
Thanks Claire for alerting.
I came out as a Dramatic.
Claire: I don't think so. I have almost all a's. I might have self assessed myself wrong though. No, I am home today, no coat yet but It will be worn tomorrow.

If I ignore the suggested geometric prints and just focus on the styles and silouettes, I'd say the Dramatic Classic fits me very well. With my soft coloring, I also have to ignore the advice about dramatic makeup. That's just not me--never has been, and never will be.

I awarded half points in each category on the questions in which I was undecided between 2 categories and ended up with
A (Dramatic) 5
B (Natural) 9
C (Classic) 2 (no points in D or E! Guess I don't have a Romantic bone in my body!)
Before deciding on this strategy my count was different each time I totalled
my points - once my Natural score was 16! So I guess there's no conclusion to reach except this one: I'm a Natural!

@nancylee: Like you, I have a prominent nose. Not overly large, but it definitely it's a button nose. And the tip is rather chiseled. What I'm not sure of is if my hands and feet are large for my height or not. I've always felt that my 7.5W shoe size was large for my 5'2" stature. However, my hands are too short to play many classical piano pieces from the Romatic era (Chopin and Brahms, for example). I can reach an octave (8 keys) comfortably, though, and my large knuckles prevent me from wearing a small ring size. I wear a size 6. Lyn, my pianist friend, could you please weigh in on this?

This has been an interesting discussion. Usually I'm all in for tests like this, but I'd never taken the Kibbe one before now. So, my results are:

3 - a
3 - b
10 - c

Pretty clearly a Dramatic Classic, which sounds about right. I have a fairly proportionate body, with some angularity (broad shoulders, long hands/feet, a prominent (not button!) nose). It explains why I'm not a fan of florals and ditzy prints and much prefer geometrics and abstracts.

I see these tests as one more piece of the puzzle when figuring out your style. It's fun and helpful to have some guidelines (like color analysis, Kibbe, etc.) to help along the way. But, of course, you have to add in your instincts and preferences to really make them work for you.

I find this quote from Christine Scaman at 12blueprints.com helpful:

Classic bodies are people who are medium in their proportions, like me. Nothing really out of the ordinary,  in the center of the National Standards charts. Natural bodies are similar, with a heavier bone structure and more muscular tendency. The other groups belong to those body shapes that strike you as ‘not average’. They are Dramatics (long and lean, Keira Knightley, or long and curvy, like Bond girls, Ursula Andress), Romantics (smaller curvy, like Adele) and Gamines (Mighty Mites).  These are very loose versions of the 13 body types outlined in David Kibbe’s 1987 book, Metamorphosis. If you can find yourself, it is brilliantly good.

My body is fairly well proportioned, so that's what puts me primarily in the Classic category. However, I'm petite (under 5'3" tall) but have medium bones. So although short, I don't have the fine and delicate look most associated with petites. This is what I know. And from what I read, the Dramatic Classic category (assuming I answered the questions right; I think I did) means I'm primarily Classic with a dash of Dramatic.

@torontogirl: I, too, would have thought some part of me would fit into the natural category.

@ClearlyClaire: I'm struggling with the geometric prints, plaids and bold stripes suggested for Dramatic Classics. Maybe we both need counseling. :)

@Deb: Which Kibbe category did your test results indicate?

TO EVERYONE: I think my biggest problem is that I'm not a verbal person, and have difficulty with the written descriptors that accompany each Kibbe type. That said, I still can't do geometrics or plaids or wide stripes. I can't do the dramatic makeup suggested in an old online article that must have been written back in the '80s. I'd look like a clown if I did!

Well I got lost reading the Kibbe stuff all morning. Last night I re-took the test and tried to be really, really objective, because I'm only hurting myself if I try to force myself to be something I'm not. *cringing* Most of my answers fell into the Dramatic category and some that I could have answered either Dramatic or Classic. Then I had 3 straight Classic answers (these were for my face/hair) and maybe one or two oddball answers for random other types. I'm going to ask the YLFers at the meetup this weekend to help type me. This is really rocking my world. I have very negative associations with being a Dramatic, and I'm trying to figure out why. I may need counselling...

At this point, I'd love to be a Dramatic Classic like you Ruth! No more fighting it. My body might fall into the Dramatic category, but my face ticks more of the Classic boxes. I'll let you know what the group thinks!

Hi, I love this stuff. I came out as Dramatic Classic, much to my chagin, I always love the softer, or natural classic looks, but alas I am always analyzed that I should add a bit of drama in there, and it's true, a clean look with a bold pop is better on me than the soft, easy look. I'm sure my husband would agree that I do have some drama! So maybe I am just trying to suppress it :)

Thanks for posting again - so fun and interesting to see others' process with it too.

I just love
quizzes :)

A – 8

B – 1

C – 4

D – 2

E - 1

According to
the quiz I’m Dramatic, followed by Classic. Dramatic fits since I have strong
features. Classic suits because I’m very symmetrical and evenly proportioned. According
to the archetype descriptions I’m gamine. I think combining these three elements
encompasses my look. I strongly identify with gamine because I still feel like
I have the body of a young teenage girl. I gained some weight and curves in the
past few years, but I am definitely not womanly. I prefer eras and styles that
cater to my body type: 20s flapper, 60s mod, ballet styles, etc.

The truest part
of the quiz for me is the hair/makeup description. That makes sense because
those aspects are most defined by my physical form. For example:

Hair: Yang: Sleek
and sculpted. Angular cuts. Asymmetric detail. Clean, geometric outline.

- Right now my
hair is cropped very short. I also love a blunt bob or long, straight hair with
blunt bangs. I have thick straight hair that doesn’t hold a curl, so this suits
me. I don’t like many layers.

Makeup:
Yang: Angular and sculpted. Heavy contouring.
Geometrically blended. Exotic eyes (almond). Deep, matte lips. Sculpted
cheekbones. Bone structure is emphasized. Smoky matte colors.

- While I will
wear glossy, shiny, and bright colors, I prefer heavy eye makeup with a natural
face. Smoky eyes, cat eyes, or purple eyeshadow are my usual. And lots of
mascara.

Haircolor:
Yang: Distinct and vivid. Dramatic streaks. Strong and
vibrant shades (flaxen, copper, platinum, jet, etc.)

- I have average
brown hair that I dye red with henna. I feel like myself as a redhead and will
probably remain one (unless I ever work a job where I can dye it unnatural
colors). I dislike highlights and too many tones in hair color.

I hope you find one, shevia. I have to have visuals. All these descriptors make my head spin, like Mo said. :)

I found this article that I think is helpful. It talks about how your personality comes into play.

I have never been able to decide with this test, but today I seem to find myself a theatrical romantic, and I think that might be it. Now to see if there is a great polyvore board like the one posted above.

This stuff makes my head spin, right up there with color analysis and 'seasons'. I'm all for analyzing, as you might have guessed by some of my posts, lol, but this categorization of myriad types of people just doesn't seem to work well.
I think I tried this last time, but I'm stepping away this time lol.

Okay. This makes a lot more sense. If your test results indicated Dramatic Classic, look at this:

http://www.polyvore.com/dramat.....id=2797250

I can totally picture myself wearing many of these outfits--especially the one in the top left corner that's categorized as "DC Kibbe Casual." I'd love to have a leather jacket like that! Just don't know where to find one in a petite size.

I agree this is difficult. Like ClearlyClaire, there's some angularity in my facial features that I've always known was there. My shoulder line is straight (not the least bit sloped) and my hip line is straight (low hip measures exactly the same as high hip). However, I have rounded aspects to my appearance as well, and my waist is well defined (neat hourglass). Stylewise, I really need to see some current examples. Like others have posted, looking at outdated styles from years ago is no help whatsoever.

I am pretty sure that I'm a soft gamine, but the questions didn't make it any easier for me to come up with that result! The description seems pretty accurate though. And I'm thrilled to be in the same category as Bette Davis
I didn't really change the way I dress because of this result except for one thing: I fully embraced tapered pants. They do look much better on me than bootcuts - despite (or because of?) my pearish hips. Who would've figured!
For those who are not yet sure of their category: It might be easier if you let someone else answer the questions for you. And try out the silhouettes that Kibbe suggests for the several types in question. And maybe post pictures to let the forum do the work..? ;-)

It's really rather difficult to figure out which of those descriptions (in questions) apply to my body. O_O But for each question I wasn't sure about, I noted down which answers were the possible options, and C, D and E definitely dominated, which seems to make me a Soft Classic. Classic is really not a word that goes with my style at all, I had a quick look through google for what's recommended for this type, and yeah, not really me at all, even if it might be flattering for my body type...

Claire, I was an Ectomorph also. I do not think I qualify now in my older age because I put on weight. I think I morphed into and Endomorph. lol

I remember those too, but I don't fit any of them! I am small-boned but not low fat storage. I can build muscle and am not lean or long but not chubby, nor do I have a narrow waist. I may be an mesomorphic ectomorph. Come to think of it this confused me in high school too.

@deb, I remember those types from 7th grade gym class! I am such an Ectomorph. I've heard Ectomorphs described as "underdeveloped". Hey! Who peeked at me in the change room? I have undertaken some muscle building exercises the last few months and I don't see huge results (although my strength has improved). Another body type would be able to build some significant muscle mass by now, but not me.

Take it from Popeye (and Suz). With Kibbe, you have to "eat up the worms and spit out the germs".

I found that in several questions none of the choices were the right one. My body is angular but my face is not, for example. Overall I cam e out a Classic with a tendency to Dramatic Classic. I don't think one size fits all on these types of surveys.
