I think you're making the right decision to keep looking for something that's really functional because honestly, you're so attractive and you wear clothes so well that you really should be able to find a raincoat that will look good pretty easily.

Like Una, I think a raincoat is nothing if it's not functional. Of course what that means to different people varies. Your jacket is cute, but your legs would certainly get wet as the rain poured off. Is that tolerable? I also don't like umbrellas a lot; I like having my hands free, so I do like a hood.

I have a longish Patagonia raincoat. It really is waterproof. The liner zips out and the hood zips off. Plus it adjusts in the back of the hood so it's not too big. The only drawback is it's not very warm. In Turkey last winter I had to wear my nanopuff jacket under it.

http://www.patagonia.com/us/pr.....?p=28566-0

I love it. Depends on whether you walk a lot in the rain, a shorter coat may be more comfortable for driving.

Detachable hood may be more trouble than it is worth. You want the hood to be there if it rains, right?

I don't know - this is very cute and stylish but is it right for your need?

My favorite is my Marmot long raincoat - it looks like a streamlined trench and has a detachable hood, the smaller functional kind rather than some hoods which I feel are more proportioned for style impact. I detest a really wide floppy hood which just gets in my eyes and doesn't actually block weather. And I never understood the point of a raincoat without a hood. If I need an umbrella, why do I need to wear a raincoat? Can you tell I've given this way too much thought thanks to my climate?

North Face makes a really nice longer rain trench too.

I love this idea of using a raincoat as a fashion piece!

The color is great on you and size seems right because it looks like you have room to layer inside. Personally I like having a hood on my jackets, purely for practicality... I wouldn't want to get wet in the rain while I fish around for an umbrella in my bag, but that being said I also prefer the ones that have a detachable hood.

This would go great with a pair of skinny jeans or cropped pants...infact I saw something similar online and I'll attach the image...the lady has a coat with a hood! ☺

P.S.- that was a REALLY sweet gesture by your darling hubby! My regards to him! ☺

It's so hard. With this kind of purchase, I really want one product to be able to do several things. And each of them really, really well.

Yes, Lisa, I want a sharper line. You are right.

But, Beth, I totally agree -- for the quick run from car to wherever, I would rather pull a hood up than open an umbrella. MUCH rather.

So, Suz is right: I guess I need a detachable hood.

And, LavenderMoon and Angie have convinced me I need a bit more length.

So this one is going back. I will keep looking.

I like it a lot! I have a HH jacket, but it's purely gear -- actually a men's jacket and it's really roomy on me, but it's great for layering underneath that way. This makes me want a less gear-ish rain jacket.

I like it, but have similar hood aversion to Lisa's. On the other hand, I also know how useful they are on coats. I prefer it if they are detachable. I say...and then leave my hoods on raincoats and puffers attached!

I guess if I am wearing a hood I feel more like I am in gear. If you know what I mean.

The hood looks bulky in back , along with the collar, as Elizabeth mentioned - maybe that's what's distracting me. Hoods look too casual to me, and not urban/work looking. It's purely personal - I just think they change the line of a coat. Now , if it's a major torrential downpour, then all style bets are off - and a hood is in order. I love the colour so much though.....this is a tough one.

I like it. The fit looks fine to me, with enough room to wear something bulky underneath if needed. The pockets look like they are in a comfy place, too. I would def wear it with business casual.

The hood doesn't bother me. In fact, I love a rain coat with a hood because I'd rather yank up a hood for the short 20yd walk from my car to work than drag out an umbrella. And in a crowd or wind, umbrellas don't always work too well. Style loses out to practical for me almost every time.

I think it fits, yes. The shoulders look maybe a tad big, but you probably want that so you can wear it over whatever. And I do like it. I think it makes sense in that context, too. I think the white/light color is fresh, for a trench raincoat.

Lisa, the hood is not detachable. Does it pass your test if I only wear the hood when trekking at home and promise to keep it down when traveling for work?

It's gorgeous - I LOVE it on you. But not with the hood. I hate hoods.

I like it! The shoulder fit looks good, the sleeves are slightly long but I don't mind that in a casual rain jacket. Color is great with your complexion.

The only thing that gives me pause is the length. I spend a lot of time sitting at kid's sporting events outside. My rain jackets need to cover my backside to keep me dry. If that is not your station in life, then the rain jacket is a keep! :)

I do like it... although the collar seems really stiff. This may soften up, or maybe it's just how you are wearing it here?

RE fit - I think you need to do the reach your arms forward test for that... hard to tell in a pic. It looks like you can get a sweater under it, which is good.

A waterproof trench has been a HEWI of mine for years, until the MK trench appeared in this years NAS. Not easy to find. North Face has one as well (just not in colours _I_ was interested in, but might work for you if you want to look around a bit)

And I would absolutely wear it as business casual... where I live, you have to!

DH bought me this raincoat after he saw me put on an old rain jacket I have hd for ages (possibly 20 years, I am not kidding). I had to order what I thought was the right size (M) after trying on a large in the store. I wanted something truly waterproof (not like my little all-cotton trench coat which is more a fashion piece than a rain coat) and with a hood. I'm wondering though how versatile it is, and if it really fits. Ideally it would work for travel.

Is this the right size?

Do you like it?

Would you wear it with business casual, like with cropped or long black pants?
