Meant to post these pics for you Janet, but kept forgetting! This tends to be my style if I'm not wearing boots with my bootcuts.

Bootcut jeans, with slip-on white 'lace' sneaks/pumps (not sure what they're classed as), and a hoodie - casual and comfy!

To be really current, I think it needs the western stitching in the top. I’m taking about the curly stitching.

I almost exclusively wear bootcuts/wider-legged jeans & trousers. For me, height-wise, I like 29" - 32" leg for wearing with heels, and 27" - 29" with flats. I have pairs specifically for heels, and my go-to with them is heeled boots/shoes, and the toe shape doesn't really make much difference I find!
For the pairs I wear with flats, I find it's not so much the style of shoe, as the colour/pattern - i.e. are you looking to 'blend' so dark with dark/light with light? Or is a dark shoe with contrasting stitching/pattern going to be worn with dark or light jeans? I tend to go with 'flat' (1" or less) heels, slip-on sneakers, oldfashioned velcro-fastened trainers.
I do find, that I tend to wear dark trousers/jeans with black/dark shoes, and brown/light shoes with lighter or coloured trousers. As I'm short, having similar colours at the bottom helps to lengthen my legs - very important with flares, where the amount of fabric can emphasise my lack of height if I'm not careful!
I think, with wider legged trousers coming back in, then anything will go, you just have to decide if it will work for you in particular!

JG, you and me both! I have loved those boots for years too, but keep admiring from afar. I should just order them to see if they even fit and are comfortable so I can satisfy my curiosity once and for all!

No more mules for me. I have not worn the one pair I got often enough to justify another. They slip off my feet too easily and have too short of a wearing season for my climate.

I’m wearing these today, after testing them out around the house. They’re a little loose in the heel but not in a way that rubs or causes discomfort. So these are an inexpensive way to satisfy a little Western update that fits underneath straight leg jeans and less flared bootcuts. I like that they’re casual but still refined and would probably look decent with dresses or skirts too.

You have an impressive bootie collection-you too Suz! I like the idea of the western booties too, or possibly pointy mules- caveat that the legs can get caught between heel and shoe though.

I don't think I can do clogs anymore -- haven't worn those since grade school!

Yeah, I think I could stand to update some of my boot collection. I still love those blue ones, but I'm thinking of letting go of the old Matisse wedge heel ones. Somehow they are not as comfortable as they used to be, and they feel a little dated to me.

I've got my eye on these Finds below.

Yup, nodding along. I had meant to chime in about clogs the other day and got distracted before I could post. Just make sure they’re not sling backs. At least for me, that’s a recipe for stepping on my hems inside the shoes. I don’t knkw if that’s my special brand of clumsy, or what...

You have such fabulous footwear!

I love the idea of a western style bootie or shootie. Pointed toe. If I get full length boot cuts (unlikely, but possible) I'll probably wear them with my Blondos and my white booties or my almond toe western-look booties.

ETA -- it's hard to see in photos but the black ones actually have a very pointy toe, as do the white (though they are not so "western inspired). The red and silver are sewn like a western bootie (the seams).

I actually have some old gray corduroy bootcuts that I hauled out this weekend and wore with my Ecco sneakers and I think it actually looked pretty good - much to my surprise. I'll have to try to get a picture and see what you all think.

I'd love to see how some of your sneakers look with bootcuts - you have such a great shoe collection and the metallic sneaks seem like they *should* work (says the one who has a pair of metallic sneaks on order as well as a pair of bootcut jeans). I think most of us know what bootcuts look like with pointy toe boots and shoes, but with sneakers is a whole new ballgame. I know Angie wore her new flares with white sneaks and it looks great on her but she is so polished overall, I'm not sure I could pull that look off.

I read this over the weekend and meant to comment as I'm wondering about this too. I don't even have the jeans for this look - yet - but when/if I do manage to find a pair of higher rise flares, what the heck am I wearing on my feet? I too like a pointed-toe and moderately heeled shoe or boot, but I can't pretend I can walk for any distance in mine anymore. The sneaker/jeans look reads really casual and boyish to me - a look I try to avoid at all costs - but I recognize it's just new to my eye and that I may warm up to it. I feel like a jerk in Western boots, but I'm thinking I need to investigate a pair like Angie's , or something like it with a shaft. I do like the pair you took home from the Rack - how do they fit??

Around here I see a lot of the new huge lumpy colorful sneakers (or I guess not “new” but “newly popular” vintage style “Dad” sneakers like Air Jordans) under bootcuts, cropped or full length. It took a while for my eye to adjust but now it seems cute. Might be worth a try.

I don't have boot cuts but for flares I do prefer a pointy toe boot or heel.....even my sandal boots are not quite right.

I tried sneakers with them and I struggled to make it work. Maybe other jeans, other sneakers I could do so.

I think any of the finer cut ankle boots will be fantastic with them. I think it will be a modern look - the only ones I question are the Fly London and the black Fry boots - great boots but would need to see with bootcuts.

So I have three pairs of pointy toe cowboy boots, but they are pretty straight-up COWBOY boots, so a really specific look:

- studded black mid-calf Old Gringo boots -- they're a lot of look, so I tend to wear them under bootcuts already to tone down the blingy studded look. They're still REALLY western rocker badass, so I prefer to temper them with a sophisticated topper so I don't look like one of the cousins from Breaking Bad.

- light turquoise mid-calf cowboy boots -- again, the color makes them stand out, so I tend to keep it as tonal as possible by pairing them with mid-wash jeans, and not getting too western with the rest of the styling. The color makes them not terribly versatile, but I love it, so I do wear them occasionally.

- OLD tan mid-calf Lucchese cowboy boots -- they pre-date YLF by years. They're neutral and would seem to be versatile, but I don't wear much tan.

These are all authentic cowboy boots, but obviously I don't always want to go SO overtly western in my style. I've moved away from wearing these much in the last couple of years, but plan to bring them back into rotation more.

However, I am thinking of a western style bootie -- not a full boot like what I already have, since they can be bulky under bootcut pants. And something a little less overtly western. More subtle. I picked up this pair of suede cutout boots at the Rack the other day to try on at home. They seemed comfortable in store, but you know how that can go. They are a soft black -- almost between black and gray. Not suitable for the coldest part of winter because of the cutouts and the suede, but I do think they'll be fun with a little bit of colored sock peeking through for fall/spring, and they look good with bare feet too. They're a good deal, price wise, but I'm wondering if I should consider investing in something a bit more versatile, season-wise, that's in the western-inspired vein?

POINTY TOE WESTERN.

These have been the bomb for me this Fall - although I wear them with skirts, dresses and cropped pants.

A little heel and a pointy toe are what I wear with my boot cuts.
