Back in the day, my mom used underarm shields. In those days they had to be washed, no disposables. I think they had straps that fit over the shoulder and arm or maybe to the bra. The disposables sound easier and helpful if they stay in place. Worth a try.

I use one of those 24 hour clear deodorants and I apply it before bed rather than in the morning. Anything that leaves white marks is the worst.

Not about deodorant, but about armpit smells in jackets, instead of dry cleaning too often, spray lining with straight vodka, removes all odours and does not leave an alcohol smell either.

Thank you, all, for your responses. It looks like either I'll have to change my deodorant or else try some of the underarm shields. I'm reluctant to change my deodorant (I use a deodorant paste from the natural foods store) because a lot of deodorants give me rashes. The Weleda spray deodorant that Lisa mentioned didn't give me a rash, but it wasn't 100% effective on keeping odor at bay--I would start to develop underarm odor about halfway through the day. I don't want that on my jacket either, of course!

If I'm going to wear a sleeveless top underneath a warm jacket, especially if I wear it to work (where I know I will be sweating), I use these disposable cotton protectors. Might seem like overkill, but it really helps with odor and cuts down on dry cleaning.

https://www.amazon.com/Kleiner.....B000J09VGA

Also, I use an old school roll on deodorant, so it doesn't rub off onto my clothes.

I put on antiperspirant at night and wash it off in the morning shower. I was extremely skeptical that this would work, but it has! In fact it seems to work better.
Apparently this only applies if you use a deodorant with antiperspirant.

I never wear sleeved tops under jackets - ever. I use a Weleda spray deodorant ( not an antiperspirant ) which leaves no residue so there’s no issue with stains . Truthfully - I only clean jackets once a season or so ( unless something gets stained or dirty ) - shrugs* - and don’t have problems with odour .

I finally found one of my HEWIs: a cropped leather jacket that is suitable to wear with sleeveless dresses as a topper. However, after I got this little gem, I realized that if I wear it with sleeveless items, then my deodorant will rub off in the armpits of the jacket and possibly ruin it.

What do you all do in this case? Do you just wear the jacket anyway, and wipe the armpits of it down as best you can afterward? (The lining is the typical polyester lining found in jackets of this sort.) Or do you just wear it and not bother with wiping it out afterward, and then take it to a leather cleaning place or dry cleaning place after a while? Or do you simply avoid wearing it unless you have a sleeved top on?
