Vinegar is acidic which neutralizes a particular chemical used in dye. Good quality denim does not run, rub or come off and this is a fact. Unfortunately with jeans, you get what you pay for and I am realizing this more and more.

I've heard it "sets the dye." Is that true? What does that even mean? That it won't bleed onto my other clothing? I've heard of dark denim sometimes rubbing off on lighter clothing. Is there a way to prevent this?

I've heard that you should wash your dark denim with a bit of vinegar added to the wash. Does anyone know how much? Should I add it just in the rinse cycle, etc.? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
