Thanks, Anne! Yes, this one could work....maybe....it needs to have hose/ shoes, etc. to balance it off. And scrunched sleeves. And I'm not sure this grey works with the crisp black and white, but that is harder to tell.

Ultimately, you can wear this style of skirt if you are committed to finding the right pieces to work with it.

I meant the other dot jumper, Anne -- the black with white dots. Or did you return that one?

The skirt looks great on you. You just need to find the right pairings for it. And your figure is terrific!!!!

Oh, sorry, but that dotted jumper is the wrong gray! (Always hard to know until you see them together.) If you don't want to wear cream, I would suggest another soft pastel of the same intensity as the gray. This could be pink, peach, aquamarine, lilac, etc. A slightly cropped, square-ish or flared-at-the hem fuzzy sweater would be very pretty: think soft watercolor effects blurred over architectural shapes. When you find the right top, I'm quite sure the skirt will click for you.

Thanks Meredith. I can't remember about the greys in that outfit actually, as I was hurriedly changing. I know the greys clashed in pic 7, which I've just added, and was Suz's suggestion.

Thanks so much everybody for your contributions to this thread.

My life is a bit stressful and busy at the moment, and this is reflected in the quality and number of the photos below. Both my photographer (DD) and my time was being eaten up by braiding their hair in complicated patterns!

Anyway...

Thumbelina - photo three is with a charcoal suit jacket

Photos 1 and 2 are with a very body con top and are my response to suggestions both about a more tonal look and to those who want to see how it fits more clearly. Oh and for the profile look (I never look better in profile!)

Rachylou - I thought it looked too low too - but that is my real waist position (not much of waist at the moment, I know) I am very long waisted and I do worry that the shape of the yoke, as well as focusing attention on my tummy also makes my torso look every longer

DD said she'll take some more pics later on on so I hope to show you more of your suggestions.

What about trying a flud fit with a welt on the hips (or even a boxy) sweater untucked and sheer hose, or opaques for leg lengthening visuals? Sweater has to end somewhere where the pleats of the skirt start. I would aim to keep the skirt as the hero of the outfit so keep everything else dark and simple-to be supporting actors:-). I like the skirt, and don't think it adds that much bulk like you are saying, but you have to like it, so you know better:-)

I like! I don't think it looks baggy or bulky, just stylised, if that makes sense. I have a slightly architectural grey skirt and I find it surprisingly useful. I like it best with a black fitted turtleneck, but I do sometimes bring colour to the top as well, with a black coat. It seems versatile to me.

I love the shape --- it's meant to be curvy, and I don't think it adds bulk. I'd like to see it in a tonal effect, too, or with something simpler on top. It would also work with a black jacket, which might cover the hip area if you're still feeling uncomfortable with the shape of the skirt.

I actually think the shape is very flattering. Makes the volume seem like the result of the skirt rather than the body underneath, if that makes any sense. I agree, a tonal low-contrast look would be fun to try.
