Queenie - I have seen the dress and I really liked it. (I even bought one at 50% off to save for my 20yo DD when she returns from Europe, then returned it knowing she will want to have her own shopping fun!) I like the dark plaid and the cotton had a nice hand.

It looks cute on you and will also be good for spring/summer. Doesn't it button down the entire front? Because there was some other fashion blog where they gave lots of examples of layering dresses when the top one could be left open and belted over another dress. Cute look. . . it might be the academichic blog (is it okay to mention another site?)

Keep it, have fun playing around with it - honest!

Think of it this way--you now have ultra-stylish, comfy loungewear!

I would never wear my Target dresses for business or glam purposes, but they are my go-tos for comfort around the house. I just bought another one--a taupe sweater dress, found secondhand for $3.

Renata, that was kindof my take "it's not too bad so I can make it work"
and I had already thought about making it a bit straighter of a skirt as it is a bit more A-line than I usually like.
I'm sitting in it now with my leggings, and it is oh so cozy! It is so hard to find perfection....

I think it looks fine, I could see it with a layering turtleneck, in black, cream or white. You can practice wearing more dresses with this one!

Its not bad, make it work! Maybe fabric is more of a summer weight, you can wear it later, when the weather warms up.
I looked at it again, and I think this dress has too much volume in the bottom, could you take it in about inch or two on each side, that might be better.

Cream is a good idea. I"ll have to keep my eye out for a cream belt (as long as it doesn't shout, hey, look here at my thick waist I felt that the black blended in enough with the dress to not cut me in half unflatteringly.

Rute- Yes, I agree that it's not the most fab fit for me, but for $7 I am hoping that I can get away with it as a run around town dress. Thanks for your honesty, I always appreciate it.

Marianna, it looked like a nightgown before I added the shirt and belt, but I'm wondering if those components helped bring some structure to it. And, it's not like it's night gown material- it's a cotton/rayon blend.

I"m still open to opinions....

I think the dress looks fine, but if you feel that it looks like a nightgown, I would return it. I wouldn't want to wear something that could double as sleepwear!

I'm not crazy about the fit of this dress for you. You can do better. Don't keep it as a nightgown.. the plaid makes this dress rather casual..

I like it the way you've styled it but also julie's idea about cream. I see it as being fairly neutral colours so most coloured tops would work underneath and plainish accessories because of the print x

I picked up this dress at Target on clearance for $7 a few weeks ago, came home, slipped it on and put it right back in the bag to return. I found it this morning and decided to give it another whirl. My first thought was that it looked like a nightgown, but then I added a v-neck t, belt, leggings and boots. (I tried ballet flats but my toes started to develop frostbite ;-)

so what do you all think? keep or return (or seriously I could keep it and wear it as a nightgown, it's a nice soft fabric) If I keep, how can I style it for warmer weather?
