Lisa, thank you so much for all the color inspiration—such fab outfits all around! And thank you for the thorough feedback on my outfit trials here. I absolutely love your idea in # 1 about adding a yellow bag. I actually have a couple and will give them a try.

Suz, thanks—that’s a very good point.

Jamie, thank you for looking and for the feedback. You’re absolutely right about suede—it usually shapes a bit with wear. I’ll hem them after a few wears.

RobinF, thank you for your advice. I’ll try them with my sneakers and loafers, and maybe with a pair of chunky boots as well—I have an olive pair that might work.

I’m sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for looking and commenting—your feedback is invaluable.

Angie, I really appreciate all your input. Your orange pants are fabulous— they’ve become almost a part of your signature style. I’ll shorten mine as you recommend, though maybe after a few wears to see how they "behave." Thanks for all the color recommendations—blues will definitely be great. Shoes in light colors aren’t my forte, but I’ll see what I can find in my closet. :-)

I love them! Not dated at all to my eye. I would agree with trying them with other shoes, maybe some lighter ones or chunkier ones. And I agree with Angie about length, although that may change depending on shoes.

I think they look great and the multiple ways you have already found to style them suggests to me you will enjoy wearing them. I especially like the last one, but see lots of potential in all of these. As they are suede they might give a little with wear so perhaps I would wear them a few times before tailoring them.

I love them and vote keep. Not dated at all and orange pants are surprisingly versatile. I picked up a pair of Zella pants in an orange shade during NAS and am pleasantly surprised at how many colors pair well with them. Here's all the combinations I've tried so far (rust, seafoam green, navy, pink, brown, ivory, black). I haven't tried red or olive yet, but they are on my list to try as combinations too. Have fun with your new pants!

Looking at your outfits:

#1 - Excellent black and orange combination here. For extra fun you could swap that orange bag for a yellow one to pick up the yellow in the scarf (if you have a yellow bag and want more color for this outfit)

#4 - Gorgeous new grey handbag, the tassels are a nice touch of interest to the outfit.

#5 - Olive with orange is on my list of color combinations to try. An olive bag would be excellent with the scarf in this outfit.

#7 and #9 - I like the dusty pink and lilac with the orange, but would prefer a lighter colored boot and bag to pick up the light colors for these outfits.

#10 - Beautiful poncho! Pairs so well with the orange.

#11 - I love the pattern mix here, all outfits are great, but this is my favorite. Just because a pattern mix is so fun to do.

I like them, Katerina!

WOOHOOO to orange pants!

My favourite outfits here are #11 to #13. Punchy pattern mix! The olive pairing is my next fave. The lilacs are yummy too!

My 2 cents:

Make sure you do the sit-down test to ensure comfort.

Absolutely not dated :)

Personally, I'd shorten them a bit. Maybe 1.5 to 2 inches.

They are begging to be paired with blues! Try reds, earth tones, and light neutral shoes. Do you have cream boots with black trim?

I wear my orange pants with: navy, white, cream, tomato red, shocking pink, burgundy, toffee, turquoise, bright green, orange, gold, and citron. In case that sparks off an outfit idea!

Sharan, thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback.

I’m glad you think the pants aren’t oudated and that they have potential. You’re absolutely right—the style is a wild card for me, not just the color. The laid-back, casual vibe is definitely a bit outside my usual style zone. Your point about the polished blazers is spot on, too. The olive combo feels the most natural—or maybe effortless? Perhaps it’s because the colors work so well together.

Katerina, they look fab on you--great fit, luscious looking fabric, fun yet streamlined cargo style, and NOT outdated looking at all!

I think the color and the style are both wildcards for you. I think you have the pieces to make them work, and it sounds like you really want to keep them, so I vote yay.

I like 1-6, 9, and 10 the best here. And no surprise, but I love the olive combo the best! You know that's just my love of olive speaking, though.

The ones that seem a little off to me are 7, 8, and 11-13--not for color, but because I feel the blazers in these outfits don't work as well with the pants--maybe because of their more structured, polished appearance. The pants, despite their luxe suede fabric, or maybe because of its matte finish, have a laid-back, casual vibe, and I like how the other outfits play off the casual feel or dress them up without competing. I do love the black patent leather boots with them. They bookend your hair so beautifully.

Navy and orange is a fantastic combination. I have a couple of navy blazers which I can try with these pants paired with navy boots. I hope the proportions will work.

I like them on you and I feel they look current.
In a term of styling, I’m not a right person to advise, perhaps. I dislike orange shades worn with black. I do have orange pants, myself and mine are much brighter. I like the most with white, cream, beige, light blues. The only dark color I considered was navy. If I wore more color, I would pair it with camel, pink, light brown.

Suz, thanks for getting back to me. In the stock photo, the pumpkin pants are clearly cropped on the model, who is much taller than I am. I will wait to see if Angie will be so kind as to offer her advice.

I really like your lilac pants—they look perfect on you. The fit is great, and I love how you’ve styled them with the burgundy sweater and scarf.

In terms of proportions, I think the pumpkin pants are quite tricky to style due to the pockets on the sides of the legs. If they were plain, without the pockets, it would be easier to pair them with various lengths of toppers. With the pockets, the proportions become much more noticeable.

I wouldn't hem them, I don't think. They seem similar in length to these of mine...maybe an inch or so longer than mine.Mine, I guess, are mildly cropped while yours seem just at ankle bone length. .

When I sit, my socks show (above my bootie, I mean). But when I stand, you only see the shaft of the bootie.

If there is any seam allowance you might experiment with taking the hem down a bit! But truthfully, I think they work fine at this length.

On re-examining, I think one reason I like the lilac sweater is the proportions. The sweater is a bit shorter in front than the jackets and to my mind, it makes the length of the pants look better, esp. with the high contrast booties.

Angie is the queen of lengths, though. Let her weigh in!

Suz, thanks so much for looking and for your valuable advice. You make a very good point about the color. I wear colorful pants quite often—I have red, cobalt, violet, and fuchsia pairs. I usually pair them with navy or black blazers or jackets. Pumpkin isn’t a color I would normally choose, but since I already have a matching bag and several scarves that include this shade, I can make it work.

Another point, as you mentioned, is whether I will actually wear them. On the upside, the material is a big plus—I really enjoy suede pants, and I already have a grey pair that I love.

ETA: I have not tried with other footwear yet, but I wear mostly boots in similar silhouettes and sneakers. I will try with my favorite sneakers in different colours.

Fun choice! I like them! To me they look a bit closer to ankle length, no? I think this length/ style/ type of pant is still current. Maybe not cutting edge, but you would definitely get a few years of wear from these and a lot of enjoyment if you can persuade yourself to wear them, since the unusual colour may not be in your comfort zone.

I raise that because some years ago I purchased a pair of pumpkin pants myself, and then just could never persuade myself to wear them. It surprised me completely, since the colour worked so well with all my blues, and also, I happily wore patterned pants and trousers at that time. However, since then, I have bought (and constantly worn) bright red pants, as well as more subdued burgundy, and then, more recently lilac. So you just never know, I guess!

Have you tried them with other footwear, possibly lighter coloured? I like all the iterations here, but perhaps especially #9, with the lilac sweater -- it's unexpected and very fresh for you! And I think it might be fun to see how they look, proportion-wise, with different boots/ booties, shoes.

I like them. On my screen they look more of a colour that I call clay, which I really like. I do prefer them with the contrasting darker tops and toppers. I have seen cargos in various fits, some roomy, some not, some longer or shorter. These seem to be the length that Angie calls the new full length, not pooling and not cropped. The texture looks lovely. I vote if they make you happy keep.

I recently ordered this pair of pumpkin-orange suede pants from an outlet. I love suede and leather pants, so I wanted to see if they would suit my style and wardrobe. The price was incredible—they had a last pair in my size, reduced by about 80%. The quality seems excellent.

Here, I’ve styled them in various ways—some quite simple and others more experimental. I’m leaning toward keeping them, but I’d love to hear your opinion.

1–2: Styled with a black cardigan, black patent leather boots, a silk scarf, and an orange bag. This would be my go-to styling.
3–4: Styled with a black belted jacket, another scarf, and a large grey handbag (a new-to-me thrifted Dolce & Gabbana—yay!).
5–6: Styled with a dark olive velvet blazer and a wool-patterned olive scarf (also thrifted and now coming in handy!). I could add an olive bag, and as Angie says, "Bob's your uncle."
7–9: Experimenting with a dusty lilac/pink blazer and a scarf that ties the colors together, plus a lilac sweater.
10: Styled with a Missoni poncho layered over a black blouse.
11–13: Playing with pattern mixing. I paired the pants with a burgundy/gold-patterned jacket (thrifted many years ago) and added a woolen scarf from Kenzo (also very old). Finished with an orange bag.

Pros:

Unusual color for me.

High quality.

Statement-making, fun item.

Great price.

Comfy.

Cons:

Unusual color for me (LOL).

Unsure if the style and fit are current—maybe they feel a bit dated? This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, but it’s something to consider. I’ve realized (thank's to Angie's suggestions and advice) that bottoms (whether current or not) make such a big difference. For example, cargo pants today tend to be roomier and maybe more full-length, or am I wrong?

What do you think? If you’ve made it this far, I’d appreciate your feedback very much!
