The dress you showed with a pashmina (and either booties or pumps) is totally wedding worthy. If you could add a little sparkle on ears or bracelet, it would go to another level.

I think the skirts are perfect for work or day events, less dressy than a wedding event though. You could do the either with a pump and a dressier blouse and add sparkle and maybe get them to dressy occasion though. I like the blue color so much.

Oh and the patterned skirt with pink top - love!

I would definitely need a coat. The wedding is in March in the Pacific Northwest and it's in the 40s most of the time. The first outfit would be pretty cold with bare legs and sandals. I was thinking of it for spring/summer time.

I have a black pashmina I could try.... good idea!

I love the idea of a dressier cardigan but I don't know if I would know one if I saw one. This is one of those times I wish I could afford to hire Angie.

Brenda, I'm not much of an advanced student of fabness, so I feel hesitant to advise here --- but just a few thoughts for what they're worth...

What happens if you (a) use the grey cardi instead of the blue in #1? and (b) maybe swap in the blouses in #3/4? It's a bold pattern mix, and might need a belt to break it up, but maybe add belt and pumps to see...? I'm thinking the colour and the boots are taking things further towards casual here. So if the cardi/blazer situation can't be helped, maybe play with the shoes and blouse?

(c) What were you thinking of in terms of a coat --- or is it too warm for one? Would the blue short cardi be too cold if you added another topper, ie, a coat for outdoors?

(d) Would you happen to have a warm wrap (pashmina or similar) you could try with the red dress instead of a cardi or blazer? That might be dressy enough to keep the boots or booties, even...

Brenda -- This dress is great -- and the booties do work here. The cardi, however is making it more casual. There are finer textured, more fitted cardis that would work here and would also fit into other capsules. I have a black v-neck with bracelet sleeves I bought 5 years ago at Walmart (yup) that's washable and wears like iron. Wish I had bought two of them.

Here's another wedding option.... pretend the booties are actually black pumps. Is it wedding worthy?

I tried on my blazer with the dress but I'm pretty sure it's too long for it. It's better with pants.

The skirts look useful, especially the patterned one, and I like these outfits. I don't see any of these as being wedding-right outfits as presented, though. For myself, at least, I'd want something a bit dressier. Pumps would help, but I think ideally a dress with jacket or at least a skirt and top that give that effect rather than looking like MOTG or business separates. Know what I mean?

The blouse in #3 is a bit too big. It was a Goodwill find that is not a 10. But it's one of only two kinda-dressy blouses that I own. I have button down shirts that I could put with the blue skirt but those don't yell "dressy" to me.

I haven't tried the Halogen skirt because it's dry clean only. Trying to avoid dry clean only clothes is probably limiting my dressy capsule.

I'll work on pics with the skirt pinned up and with a blazer. I have some black booties that are heeled, but I'd like to add pumps to my closet.

Brenda -- I think #3 paired with sheer or textured black hose and heels would be wedding worthy. I saw this skirt in the store and loved the color. The knit was relatively substantial, too. IMHO, the blouse is a little big and loosely structured for a dressy look. A slimmer silhouette, or adding a blacket (that's black jacket) would also work. That said, I do like this blouse, and the patterned skirt as well!

I like #3 the best. I think the top is very pretty on you and the tie-neck adds a nice feminine touch. I do think it may be the boots that are bringing it down a notch in terms of formality.

Any chance you could pin the skirt an inch or two shorter to see how the proportions look? I seem to recall that you are quite petite and the shorter length might be better.

I do love the blue and also like the first outfit but if it is too summery, then it isn't the one.

In my neck of the woods it is very appropriate to wear black to a winter wedding (and march is still cold and wintery here). A fancier black look might even get away with wearing the boots.

I think it is the combinations of pieces. The first two outfits seem to have a knit, tee substitute top, and the longer less fitted boyfriend cardis plus the casual flat boots really make the looks casual, although the skirt itself could probably be dressed up for a casual wedding.

The next two with the blue pencil are still suffering casual boot and cardi syndrome. Plus, the fabric of the blue pencil looks casual in these pictures, but it could be the wrinkles. However, if the fabric wrinkles easy, it will wrinkle sitting at he wedding. The two silk blouses are nice, but they aren't enough to dress up the other pieces.

I can see the blouse in pic three with a jacket or black or colored cardi belted (or a more cropped, fitted style), with a black or colored pencil more similar to the halogen skirt or with the black and white skirt in number 1, with tights and black pumps. A dress with a jacket would be a good look-- if it seems too black, a scarf would go a long way. I'm sorry, I'm blanking on what you have to play with at the moment.

The look in 3 would probably be great with a non bf sweater topper and different shoes. If it will be warm inside the church (enough for the short sleeves) I'd just wear my dress jacket over it, skip the cardi, and wear a pair of pumps or any other "dressier" black shoes with the tights. I think the blouse in 3 is slightly dressier by itself than the blouse in 4, but I don't think the sleeve length looks as dressy or as flattering with your IT shape.

I think either skirt could work for a wedding with dressier shoes and jewelry. I don't particularly like wearing black to weddings either. I recently tried on skinny jeans at Target in a size 7 that were way too tight on my legs (and I don't have big legs). I ended up buying two pencil skirts in a size 2. Talk about inconsistent sizing!

Said with all sweet sincerity.... educate me, please. Pic #3 is a silk blouse and pencil skirt. Is it the boots that are making it look more like MOTG rather than dressy? Would black pumps dress it up enough? What does it need? I have a black blazer that might work over it.

I'm realizing quickly that my dressy capsule leaves much to be desired. It only needs to be about 5% of my closet, if that, but it does need to exist!

Hmm---- Idk, I like the looks, but I am not sure any of them feel wedding appropriate to me. These all seem like MOTG dressed up. I would much rather see a black but appropriately dressy outfit with a brighter bag and scarf than I would something in "happy" colors that is borderline casual. Unless this is a jeans-and-sundress type wedding.

I love the first outfit for a wedding. You should be able to bling it out a bit with some jewelry. I don't know what time of year the wedding is, but that could determine the leg/footwear you choose to go with it. I lke both skirts on you, and the length seems really good to me. Funny about the sizing. The only thing I can figure is that a woman with bigger hips than yours (but the same waist size) could fit into the patterned skirt. I like the pattern and volume on your bottom half. Great outfits and great colors on you. Love them all!

I picked up 3 Target skirts yesterday. At $23 each, I couldn't resist. One of them I won't bother showing you. The warm toned pattern does not work in my closet at all. As for the other two....

Skirt #1 (pics 1 & 2) is a black and white pattern. I did summer and winter styling versions. The front is a bit gathered and I'm not 100% sure about that, but I'm thinking my IT shoulders could do with a bit of balancing anyway. It has belt loops, so I did one pic with a belt, the other without. What do you think? Does it need to be shortened? It's about at the middle of my knee. I'm not sure if the pics show that well.

Skirt #2 (pics 3 & 4) is a medium blue pencil skirt. It looks purple on my screen, but is definitely blue in real life. I have not-black-and-white tops that would go with it for casual wear, but I'm trying to figure out something to wear to a wedding later this month. Assuming I iron the skirt before I wear it does it look alright? does it need to be shortened?

Wedding wear question: Do any of these outfits look appropriate for a 3pm wedding in a church later this month? I have plenty of all black, "you must be heading to a funeral" dress-up options, but I'm low on non-black dressy stuff. Do the boots work ok, or should I get black pumps before the wedding?

Just an aside.... other Target skirts I own are 6s. The patterned skirt is an 8 and the pencil skirt is a 4. Nothing like consistency.
