I think that 1 and 3 look good on you and are also very versatile pieces that you could change up with different layering pieces and accessories. Not crazy about the print tops, but that may just be me. Love that scarf in 12. I agree with the others that you look great in more colorful things like 3 and 12. Good luck putting together your new wardrobe. You will find lots of great people to help you on here!

I like both denim and blue dress - that blue color is gorgeous on you. I think the blue dress fits better than the black.
I am not a big fan of this style of tops so i will reserve my opinion as it is biased.:-)
From the scarves I like the last one the best near your face.

So cute! If you are looking for more waist definition, I have that same denim dress and I cross the strings in the back and tie it in the front. Not sure if it's for everyone though...

Thanks for the comments! I will keep reading and thinking over them. Shopping is such an overwhelming experience for me. I don't want to settle for thigs that aren't fab, but I don't want to get exhausted and give up and wear t-shirts from college, either.

So far I am thinking:
Keep the chambray dress. My husband loves it, as do some of you.
Keep the blue floral top. If I find better summer tops, I can put this one back for next time I am pregnant or seriously overeat. :)
Keep the blue XS dress. Hopefully the right accessories and undergarments will make up for any deficiencies in the fabric. I do like the blue.
Keep the coral scarf.

Return the too-big floral button-up.
Return the black dress.

On the fence about:
Pink top. It was only $6!
Purple and green/blue scarves. Overexposed photos didn't do them justice, but maybe they really aren't good enough.

I think what is so hard for me is that I look best in bright colors but am drawn to subdued, natural/foresty colors and tiny prints. I feel intimidated by the idea of being bright and noticeable, but I think my beloved quiet hues wash me out. I picked up the scarf everyone likes through force of will. I knew it should look good on me, but I didn't find it naturally appealing on the display.

I vote to keep 1, 5, 7, and 12. I love you in the warm pink and orange! I think the knit dresses aren't laying perfectly, and some of the others are hiding your fab figure. Not that everything should be skin tight, especially in the summer, but I think you can do better.

There are some very nice pieces here but they need to be styled with the right jewelry, jackets, cardi's, scarves and sandals to really look fab. I was looking at some of the same clothes on the old navy site today. It's nice to see them modeled on a real person! While I love the idea of quality clothes, they never seem to fit my lifestyle. I have kids and dogs. I have to buy things that I am not going to feel bad about getting dirty, ripping or ruining. I've been buying stylish and inexpensive clothes lately at Old Navy, Target, Ann Taylor Loft (they run frequent major sales), with the occasional higher quality thrifted item. The only exceptions are jeans and shoes, which have been taking out a major portion of my clothing budget lately!

I totally understand what you mean about needing stopgap pieces. It's so hard to start from scratch.

1/2 - I can see how this could be versatile, but I don't think it does your figure justice.
3 - I like the XS better, and I like the color on you.
5-7 - I don't really love this top. Compared to the way that brighter colors light up your face, I'd love to see you find cute blouses in brighter colors.
8 - This is my favorite of the tops because it seems like it has more shape despite being voluminous and I can imagine it looking nice with skinnies.
The only scarf I would keep is #12, which I love on you.

You know, there are some cute items here. To be honest though, you are SO tiny-- I would really go back to the drawing board and choose some items that really show that off, with a defined waist or a more obvious contrast between something voluminous and something not. These tops and the first dress kind of remind me of things someone would wear to cover up a pregnancy or a tummy, and from the scarf pictures you are very trim. I actually think the first dress and tops in the 5-7 pics look more boxy than the top in 8-9, it has curves, but appears to perhaps be a bit too big for you. If I were you I would be on the lookout for blouses that would create a waist or more voluminous tunic styles to wear with skinny jeans and or leggings.

Have you looked at some of Laura's posts? She is an adorable petite like you with a slim hourglass figure.

I agree exactly with MNSara--right down to the opinion on the scarf. Keep #12 and maybe find some other ones with some fun, bright colors--a great way to stretch your limited budget. The XS blue dress is a knockout.

dresses 3/4 are fairly flattering, but they aren't quite up to snuff IMO. They have a faint hint of bathrobe vibe to them.

1-2: Really cute on you and will look great with leggings long or cropped all summer! I think the neck and bodice are very sweet on you

3-4: I like XS better. If it is not going to shrink. The S does look 'roomy' and the neckline gets deeper. Color wise, the blue is knockout for spring/summer unless you have need for a casual black dress. (Black is usually too hot in the sun for me.)

5-7: I prefer blue on you, if you are choosing one. I would have thought that's just because I prefer blue, but see #12 below.

8-9: pretty boxy, but if you really like it, then try pairing it with black skinnies for a more dramatic effect. Then the boxiness could be part of that dramatic look?

10-12: I LOVE #12 on you - surprise me! (see #5-7 above) #10-11 smaller prints don't have the oomph or add as much to an outfit from even a few feet away. #12 is standout on you

I am one of those building a wardrobe nearly from scratch. I have come to believe in buying quality over quantity, but I also need to have some stopgap pieces (less expensive) to get things off the ground, especially for summer. That said, I want to be as close to a 10 as I can, even on a budget. Let me know what you think. Sorry the light isn't the best.

1-2 "denim" dress with a tie-back you can't see. Would wear with leggings but didn't have them where I was taking the pictures.
3 blue knit dress XS
4 same dress in black size S. Which size is better?
5 pink/orange floral top
6-7 same top in blue floral - too big or right for the style?
8-9 I love this color, but the fit may just be too boxy to be workable. The right belt might work, but that might bunch too much?
10-12 purple plaid, blue/green floral, and pink/orange scarves
