Update: Both of these coats went back to the store today.

Then I stopped at Macy's to return one of the denim jackets from the denim jacket thread, and lo and behold, they had a TON of petite coats on sale! Angie -- you were so right -- the petites are just so much better in every way for me!

I ended up buying two to try out -- a red London Fog and a purple Anne Klein. Then the sales lady told me it would be another 25% off if I'd leave them there and pick them up on December 1, so I did. So... stay tuned for more coat photos on December 2! LOL

You are right! I have several full length coats and trenches and they hit me just above the knee - like here:

http://youlookfab.com/2009/02/.....manhattan/

My puffer is a little longer though.

Angie, you're right.

But I have been under the impression that a "full length" coat should be around the knees. Is that wrong?

I will have to agree the red isn't quite fitted enough in the shoulders. It's up to you whether you think the brown suits your style or not, but I like it!!

I prefer the red coat in terms of fit. I have a military style coat with the sweatery material, so I'll be curious to hear if it is dated. I don't think it is.

Mary, are you a petite? I'm going to be a real bummer and say I'm not totally in love with either new coat. Sorry! The red color is nice, but I'm not crazy about the fit. The brown one seems a little boxy to me, and I don't think the color does much for you. Maybe I don't have a good handle on your style yet? I'd love to see you in something a little more elegant. (But what do I know? I'm still learning!)

Trouble is, 3 isn't warm enough to be my only winter coat. If I only kept one, it would have to be 4. It hits at the bottom of the knee and is intended to be worn with skirts and dresses.

And damn you, Jonesey, for your keen eye. LOL The had #3 in a size 4, which was a teeny bit too small, and this one is an 8. A size 6 would have been perfect but they didn't have a size 6.

Huh. I may have to expand my horizons beyond the basement of Burlington Coat Factory...

I'm not sure I'd keep #4. It seems to long, but of course may not be with skirts and dresses. Do you really think you need 2 winter coats in Pasadena?

These are certainly an improvement! I am wondering if the red one is just a pinch too big, especially through the shoulders? Re. the brown one: I'm with AG--it seems a little different than your dominant bombshell professional style persona. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I wonder if it's perfectly "you." I also wonder if it would be a bit more perfect if it hit you at your knees.

I think the problem is that you have established a VERY high bar for yourself with all of your fabulous outfits, so we are probably going to be a teeny bit nitpicky :).

Just having the sleeves shortened. The red one is super-simple, but the brown one has zippers in the sleeves, so I imagine they'll have to be removed and re-installed. Hopefully they can be saved and not sacrificed to get the sleeves the right length.

The belt on the brown one is very very VERY long -- do you think I should get it shortened or just let it hang?

And BTW, coats 1 and 2 have already been donated -- I just included them for your amusement!

You are so right, your old coats just didn't keep up with your evolving style! These new ones are so much more in line with your style. Of course I say keep both if you can! They can each be used so differently. How are you planning to have them altered at the tailor's?

Also love the brown coat, but it seems a departure for you in some way? Color, style? I'm not sure if the sweatery material makes it seem dated - the rest looks very military-current. It looks like a great fit on you, and if you love it, I say expand your coat options!

It has finally gotten cold here and I realized my winter coats make me look like a linebacker standing in a hole! Went to Burlington Coat Factory today and donated two old coats and got a coupon for 10% off, which I used to buy two new coats. I think I like them, but I always need some guidance from y'all!

1. Old wool coat. How about those shoulders?
2. Old London Fog raincoat. I look like somebody cut off my legs in this one.
3. New red coat. It's got kind of a poodle-y texture that I kind of like.
4. Same, open. This coat is kind of fall weight -- not too heavy, not too warm.
5. Brown wool coat, very warm, fairly heavy. Deliciously cozy. It has zippers on the sleeves that will cost a bit to have shortened, I think, so I want to make sure it's a good choice before I head to the tailors. Here's a close-up of the sweatery material on the collar.
6. Full-length, open.
7. Closed.
8. Side.
9. Back.

What say you? Keep both? Keep one? Return both?
