Here is a photo of my red Jane's. I had found them online at lastcall.com. I just checked the site and they are still on there, but I don't know how to post a link to it. I wore them to work today and I got gobs of compliments again. Now I want them in the same color you have!!!!!!!!!

They look very beautiful--love the color, the heel height, the detailing. I have no opinion about the gap, to be honest. I usually don't care too much about a bit of one, but the whole hand thing is a lot. OTOH, they are a cowgirl style, so a bit of gaping is par for the course, I think. Sorry I'm no help at all!

Thanks, everyone! I am glad I got a keep vote, because otherwise I am giving up on cognac boots. However, I'm going to try some outfits indoors before I wear them outside, just to make sure I can wear them with a lot of different looks.

Sorry to be an enabler, lynne!

marsh, you have THESE Janes? The only place I found them was endless. There are other Frye Janes that are a totally different style. If you love them that much, I feel way better about them (and our calves are the same size!). Have you posted any photos with them?

Great color! From the side, the gap doesn't bother me since the boot has the vibe/look of a cowboy boot. From the front (where I don't get the cowboy vibe, more of a fitted riding boot vibe) the gap bothers me slightly but I'm not sure if enough to be a deal breaker. Hope Angie can give you some advice!

Oh holy cow, I LOVE these boots!!!! I have the Janes in red. I got them at Thanksgiving time and have worn them to death since then. I have worn them with leggings; skinnys and leans, both with and without the thick boot socks; and under bootcuts. I have not been bothered by the gap in mine--my calves are 13 1/2". I have found them to be very versatile. keep, keep, keep!

I think the gap is reasonable -- not really that noticeable at all from the front, only that top-down view. You could always try some slouchier socks if it bothers you, but I think the style of the boot can handle the gap.

wilson, to be honest, all I cared about at the time I ordered was "cognac". And tthis boot height is actually not in my collection either. I thought I wanted more of a dressy boot (like Teri's cognac boots), but I have SO many of those already. and the sleek ones mostly have heels I can't handle. I'm thinking I'll use these to dress down, if they are keepers. They are really beautiful, I have to say!

Srujana, they are quite secure around the foot and ankle; in fact, they don't have the typical Frye heel slippage. Because the leather is not soft, they don't "bag" at the ankle either. It's just up top (drat those skinny calves) that they gap, but in a way, because they have no zip and are stiffer, wider calves might actually not be able to pull them on. I think they fit like cowboy boots maybe?

You can slide your whole hand in?!?! (wow) Do they feel like they'll fall off your feet at all?

I really like the look of boots that are slightly larger at the calf, especially when worn with boot socks like you have here. I also love the color and the style...so if they are comfortable and feel like they stay on your feet well, then I vote to keep them. Try them with some thicker socks, that you can wear a little scrunched up, that should help them to not look so big.

Here is my final attempt at cognac boots. They are comfortable and easy to get on my feet (a huge bonus after the Rorys). But are they too big in the calf? I can slide my whole hand in them with these thin socks. In leans they do not gap as much. They are a stiff "western" style, so maybe that's okay? I can see wearing them, but if they are not a 10, then back they'll go.
