OK, so I think I will return these. I think longer than ankle length will be one main criteria as I continue to look.

You are right that, if your wardrobe will be limited to only one pair of jeans, you will need a pair that can span the seasons. Perhaps slim straight-leg jeans (in a mid-weight fabric) would work the well for this purpose. They are very versatile -- skinny enough to tuck into boots in winter, but look great cuffed or rolled and worn with cute sandals or flats in the warmer weather. I agree with your observation that a lot of the sales associates seem to favor more fitted jeans over the baggier styles. The boyfriend trend hasn't caught on in some places just yet. (I seem to be the only one around my neck of the woods to wear them.)

Ditto on what Liz said. I think for one pair of jeans wardrobe year round something longer than ankle length is advisable. Also, are you looking to fit or skim over your thin calves? A straight will skim straighter over but there will be more gap rolled. A skinnier cut, well... will be skinnier. Levi's juniors line (maybe there wee the skinny's you tried?) had some jeans that were way to tight on my broad calves but which might fit you really well looking at your photos. Gosh. I feel like i am stating the obvious here. LOL

If you're going for just one pair of jeans, then something more versatile is probably a good idea. Maybe a full-length slim straight leg, which would let you wear a range of heel heights. (It's possible that, with your slender calves, a "relaxed skinnies" cut might fit you like a "straight leg" cut would fit someone with fuller calves.)

I'm guessing the reason for the different responses to the fit is because the tastes of those on this forum have been shaped by Angie's love for baggie and slouchy, and by seeing that fit work so well on so many forum members. The customers and SAs tastes are probably still shaped by the years-long dominance of body con fits.

Hi all! This is great advice. I'm not convinced yet that boyfriends are the way to go if I'm only going to have one pair of jeans. In terms of evaluating this particular pair, I think you may be on to something in terms of needing a length that will work across seasons-- these are ankle jeans. Here's a photo showing them uncuffed. These just may not be versatile enough for a one pair of jeans wardrobe.

It's interesting though-- I tried on jeans at two stores (Levis and Lucky Brand) and sales people/other customers didn't like the oversize on me but raved when I wore the ones that fit like this pair. Could be their own style preferences.

I am struggling with my skinny calves not being in proportion to my wide hips. The jeans actually labeled boyfriends at Lucky looked enormous cuffed on my skinny calves. I'm somewhere between 30-31 in terms of size to fit my hips, but my calve size is probably from a much smaller size. The boyfriends at Levis were called Skinny boyfriends and they fit a lot like this pair but maybe they were longer.

May I suggest sizing up? These look like rolled straight legs instead of BF's. Although they are a nice fit.

First of all… I think these jeans are a great fit on you. They appear to be more of a straight-leg style than a true boyfriend, but they look adorable cuffed and could certainly be "boyfriendy" enough in vibe to meet your "333" needs.

These look good on you. They look like rolled or cropped skinny jeans to me. If you just want one jean, they are great for warmer weather with sandals but if you want jeans for right now, maybe one that is full length with the option of rolling would work better.

These look great on you. I'm not sure you're wearing them loose enough to be called "boyfriends", but the rest of the styling suits. Personally, If I could only have one pair of jeans, they would be a pair that fits well (as these do), is a medium wash (as these are) and can be worn either full length or rolled. Are these full length when unrolled?

I've been living without a pair of jeans for quite some time so I finally went out and shopped for some after getting inspiration here. What do you think of these? Should I keep them or keep looking for a better pair? I'm trying to follow Project 333 and so I only have a small number of slots available in my wardrobe, so my hope is that I will love every article of clothing. Is this pair worthy of wardrobe love?

Also, would you consider these boyfriend jeans?

I haven't tried to style these jeans or anything. It's just the shirt/scarf I happened to be wearing.
