I think that it is probably the styling that is contributing to this. I think you would have to change out the shoes and also add some accessories that were trendy and modern to counteract this look if it is not what you are going for. The plaid shirt is my second choice. The other tucked shirt looks too conventional, to me, for your style. I also think different shoes will help make the look more arty/boho/hip. Something like a platform sandal or bootie--I'm posting a couple of my Finds below as quick examples. Finally, I think a shorter length would be better--I wonder if the skirt would still look good with 2 to 3 inches taken off the hem (and if you would still wear it at that length)?<br />And I think the skirt StyleFan suggests has potential to work better for you, because of the tapered shape (closer fit at the top) and shorter length.<br />It's such a revelation to hear you say you're short waisted and that you find it problematic with skirts. Tucked tops are better. Like LisaP, I would like to see it with different shoes and some jewellery. I have this one in the photo. I like it, but I won't lie, I do find it a bit tricky to wear. It definitely needs a tucked top or a shorter top (hip length or above). The top I am wearing in the photo is a high low top. I think these skirts are less tricky to wear when the hem is shorter (above knee). It changes the proportions somehow. I think that's because the pattern runs sideways and the eye goes with it. I really like the darts in the hip area so it's a shame to cover them up...But in the end it is all up to you and if you like wearing it. A tunic/untucked top sort of obscures the nice details of the upper part of the skirt.</p> <p>Do you have a top that would, untucked, drop down only 2-3 inches below your natural waistline? Or even a little shorter, but still covering the waistband? The bottom of this shorter top should hang away from your body, not cling or drape. Maybe you could try this out for proportion only, even if the color or pattern does not work well with the skirt.
