Freckles, yes, i'm like you. I think these "melt in the background" pieces are essentials, although I wouldn't count them in my wardrobe per say. I view them more like my gym clothe or my winter gear: necessary, but not style defining. (Although I am coquette with gym clothes, yet not enough to start doing a huge overhaul).
Some days, I won't want to be badass just like some days, I don't was to be "pretty".

I think you have it sorted out.
In your wardrobe do you keep things that are not in the style groove you aspire to? I know I do, some days its just gotta be artistic although that is not at all what my wardrobe is like. Other days it is just melt into the background where I tend to wear things that aren't quite me probably because I'm not quite me that day...

I also think this skirt is great on you. It fits beautifully. It seems quite versatile. It can have quite different moods depending on the tops and shoes you wear with it. My favorites are 5-8. I like the juxtaposition of the feminine with the more RATE elements. It creates a tension which makes the outfits interesting and draws the eye.

The skirt is beautiful, fits you very well! To my eye, not "too pretty" or girly because of the colours and the transparent strip. I also think you can change the vibe with a tougher topper, accessories and footwear - the overall outfit can be "badass". I also think that Joy made a good point about the packing down. It seems like a great skirt to keep.

KEEP! I don't know if goes with your new formula of a badass(nr 7 with black booties instead of sandals?) but love the skirt and think you may always need a little bit of a girlier, more conventional outfit! And shoes make a diff, you have a great updated selection!

A poly skirt that can pack down to nothing without wrinkles is a good item to own and can brighten a travel capsule. I like the sound of your simplified outfit.

I much prefer this skirt to the floral top. It is pretty, and that's more what I like I suspect since I'm much more playful than badass! I love the reds in pics 1 and 2, and love 5-8 with the different footwear, leather jacket and great belt.
I wear quite a lot of polyester and am trying to move away from it but some can feel nice, the quality seems to vary. Some can make you feel too hot but not all in my experience.

Thanks Aurore! Yep, this skirt remains in my closet for now. That's an interesting point about the transparent strip. I agree with you that there are two distinct directions to dress it up: feminine and etheral or tough.

That skirt is very flattering! I think the sheer stripe at the bottom prevents it from being too "girly". I agree that it looks more soft and feminine than your badass style : I LOVE #3 for its feminine vibe, and #8 because the leather jacket does add badassery.

Gigi, I think the outfits here are half badassaized, if you will, because I didn't match them with quite the right items. I like it with the biker jacket, but I think I will try that with black tights and a black tight top or turtleneck, or chunky knit (it's still around 0 degrees here). Then the booties won't stand out as much and to me, that subtle RATE (rough around the edges) part will be more "badass" even. Everything else will be black simple, and the skirt will stand out more. I will post pics.
As for your second question: yes, I will also want to do this, but keep it simple, so when I do, it will be with flats.
You are so clever to ask me about the sales goggles lol! I tend to wear them... so I'm goign to sleep on it and see

I like it a lot. My favourite is 3, although I am not sure whether the vibe of that outfit fits your style goals? The black stylings do look more like the vibe you want (and look great too). I think there is a fair bit of versatility there.

OK, I've read the other comments. Are you OK with the "badassing" only being half-achieved? Do you also want to wear the skirt as a more "girly" piece, without added edge? I just want to be sure that you don't have sale goggles on. You've mentioned that it's rare to find a skirt this nice at Marshall's, and you mentioned that you like the sheer stripe. If it's really the sheer stripe that's the draw, would you prefer to buy a different garment that has sheer panels instead?

Haven't read the other responses yet. My reaction is that I like it. I think it fits you well and is a beautiful skirt in its own right. My first reaction was that it needs to be "toughened up" with a leather jacket, which I see you did (and that was my favorite look)! I think this skirt completely works with your "badass" style as long as you make sure the other outfit elements are edgy.

My rules of thumb are always-
1- Fit and flatter- think you have that covered
2-can I combine it with several pieces already in my closet- clearly you have several tops/accessories that each give it a different look.
3- does it have visual interest- good on 2 counts with print and sheer panel.
4- where in my mind do I see myself wearing it- lunch with friends, lecture, date night. If I see several places- it is a keeper, if not- budget says-back it goes.
BTW- you are my first post- so excited to join the forum!

Sarah, so wise of you. You are fantatic. Such a good question that I didn't ask myself before.
The answer is: for an afternoon out, a coffee with friends during the day, maybe teaching if I find an appropriate top.
All and all: it's a day item, it's an easy-breazy-peasy piece and I need to pair it with tops and shoes that correspond to that.
I think I was going the wrong way trying to look for complicated pairings. I think I must tackle this with the word "SIMPLE" in big letters in my head.

So, back to square one. But I feel I made good progression!

Smittie, thank you for your input as well. It encourages me to continue lookin for things to wear it with.

Your “I feel the goal is only half reached” comment seems telling. Where (what circumstances/occasions) might you wear this skirt? And do you have other options in your closet appropriate for such events that reach your style goals more fully?

If the answer is yes, I think you will almost always choose the “better” outfit and this skirt won’t see much wear.

If the answer is no, this could be a solidly flattering, not too expensive piece to help you transition your style in the direction you want to go.

Rach, I love what you say! Eye-opener for me. Yes, extra chunky sweater with it, or remain with delicate thin materials. Maybe I just need more black, delicate tops.
Your comment makes me think I may also need delicate black footwear.
Jussie and Sal, thank you!
Kathie, that's so kind of you to reassure me about my legs. You ask the right question. And looking at the pic, I'd say yes, although trying it on with what I have now I say no. It's difficult.

The skirt is quite flattering, and your legs look great in it. Based on your other posts, I'm not sure if it fits with your style direction. That said, you clearly have a number of tops that work quite well with it, and 5-8 are all some great options with a bit of edge. Is that enough edge for you to enjoy the look?

The cut and fit are gorgeous - I really like it on you. I think it can swing tougher - and there are times where a pretty summer skirt is just the ticket!!

I find the silky tops better with this skirt than the sweaters - altho Iike pic 5. The sweaters feel visually heavy to me... on the other hand, I can see a really chunky sweater working well with it. Maybe I think a greater contrast in visual weight would seem more deliberate.

I’m not sure how badass the skirt is inherently. But it’s very flattering and interesting with the sheer panel.
