Mo, you're so positive! Yes, I do think that we are being more careful with our purchases. I just made another one today—some black faux leather shorts that were on sale for half off. I had wanted a pair of faux leather shorts, so that was a bit of a HEWI. And I'm being really picky about things fitting just like I want and really hitting the happy buttons, so I've been ordering less overall and returning more.

I have found lately that when I shop online (though this could happen in-store too), I get sidetracked. I will be looking for a HEWI, but during the search I might see a cute pair of jeans and think about buying them. I have found that if I stop myself and say, "OK, do you really want another pair of jeans? You were looking for item X," then I can forget the jeans and move on. It's really starting to hit home that the more items I have in my closet, the fewer times I can wear my favorites. So if I'm not feeling the need to look for a pair of jeans (or whatever), I shouldn't buy them simply because I ran into a pair by accident that were cute.

Maybe we should have a HEWI-only July? Maybe I will start a thread on that at the end of the month. This might be easier than just not buying anything.

It has been very successful for me. I have bought some items, but my goal was to stop this ridiculous ordering and returning "just to try" cycle I had gotten myself in. I keep a spreadsheet of items that I order and had a bad attitude of "what could it hurt?" It was very time consuming and created bad habits I don't want to have.

I really needed to get out and actually shop even though it is a 45 minute drive.

Heh, at this rate it will be Judiciously spending June with a hope for No Buy July lol! I am reading that thought is going into the buys and at least impulses are being tempered. That's something.

Well, I spoke too soon. Stopped by a mall today that's up near my dentists office after an appointment. I had a return to make to Anthro, and I wanted to grab some lunch. But Madewell lured me in (they closed the Madewell nearest me so I hadn't gotten a fix from them in a long time). I ended up with a pair of faded, distressed BF railroad stripe shorts that were on sale. They were a great fit and length for me, and considering my casusl shorts search, I jumped. But I also caved for a teal linen tee. The cut, fit and color on me were so nice I couldn't pass it up. So...more summer basics. But I fell off the wagon. Oops.

Mo, thank you for starting this thread. I am inspired by your disciplne time and time again.

I did not officially sign myself up for "Just Say No June", but I am thinking I should have to make myself accountable.

I am in the US on business this week. My usual time for being a very naughty girl and spending money on myself - clothes, shoes, etc. A monthly free for all for me to spend my spare time shopping.

Last night I fought the urge to pull into TJMaxx, where my old habits would lead me to buy things without a budget, without a plan, without thinking how they worked with my existing wardrobe. A shirt for $19.99, sure, why not? Shoes for $34.99, what a bargain! Then I ended up with a lot of orphans and just a lot of stuff. Pre-YLF. The old me.

I know last night's urge to shop was an emotional pull too, due to stress, which I'm trying to identify and combat with other outlets besides shopping (went to my first barre class yesterday!).

I DID go to Carter's and used some vouchers I had, and I spent $30 on the kids, but since it was not for me I don't count it as a violation.

I'm really fighting the urge to order the Danier jacket or blazer Suz and Sveta checked out for me, but now I found out our financial circumstances may be changing, all the reason to tighten up on spending.

I also pulled out some sandals from my closet I hadn't worn in a year and am finding them to be better than I thought. I need to SYC more often. WAY more often.

I have two pairs of shoes from Nordies still in the box from last month's trip. Sadly I am returning them. The VC Elianas just won't work with my walking lifestyle, and since seeing Suz's "shipping mistake yet better" pair, I can't stop thinking about those and how they're a better design for me than the Elianas, so back they go. The other pair are Gentle Souls sandals which fit like a dream, but I had decided to exchange them for black, but now, to be a responsible person I am going to just flat out return them, and maybe watch to see if they go on sale. They were pricey at $209 but fit like clouds on my feet so I was originally justifying them.

Anyway, I ramble. My point is that I'm trying to be better and being conscious of my spending and habits and triggers is a very good first step, inspired by you. Thanks.

I bought lots of stuff on sale last month, and really, I need to slow down. I have many items hanging yet unworn in my closet--waiting for real summer, for some occasion, for some excuse . . . One of my shopping weaknesses is buying stuff to wear on a trip--then when I pack I usually decide to take the old reliable items instead.

So, no shopping for me since May 29, but I do have to admit that I haven't been feeling well the last two weeks and have had no energy to shop. Also, I unsubscribed from NM Last Call emails. No more bargains I don't need.

Also, I want to enjoy the anticipation of waiting for the NAS catalogue to arrive. Will this year be the year for me to find that fabulous item I've been missing?

A fail for me. I ordered a top from Nordstrom and stocked up on Kut From the Kloth Jeans which were on sale at Zappos (although these are to duplicate my existing wardrobe workhorses). Interestingly, I'm not feeling too guilty except for the fact that I make a public proclamation which I didn't fulfill. Maybe I shouldn't have signed up in the first place :)

I am hanging in there, but just barely! I started a challenge on my blog last week, just to keep me from shopping. Which of course, has me creating lists and lists and lists, for when I can shop again. Especially after I just sorted through the clothes NOT in my challenge. The hardest part is going to be that last weekend, because it will be so close to the end of the month.

I fell of the wagon, too - 2 list items came up and I decided to get them. Still, slowing down and buying in a slow, controlled fashion is a plus. I'm still trying not to buy anything, but if I find one of my useful HEWIs, I'm not going to be upset with myself. And I have been very much enjoying making outfits that most reflect my style, not merely wearing "okay" variations.

I haven't bought anything this month. I have built a very small capsule based on navy blue with white, black, and shades of blue, over the last few months. I'm enjoying it this month, despite some holes. The experience will help me to make wise choices in the future I hope. I'd like to build another capsule with black, red, and white, for fall.

Well...I didn't sign up for just-say-no June, because I figured I would fail. I will sign up on June 30. Ha ha.

I haven't bought too much, though. I would like to cut down on what I buy, because Mo, you are right—buy, buy, buy doesn't usually lead to good purchases. It's when we really start wearing what we have that we discover the true wardrobe holes and where we want our style to head.

I'll be honest that I think I shop a lot (online) just out of habit. I had hardly anything in my closet a year ago, and what I had wasn't fitting because I had lost a lot of weight. So I had to shop a lot to build my wardrobe. I found this very enjoyable (despite the numerous returns), and so I will admit that it has become recreation at this point. Oops. But I have actually been quite good with my purchases in the last few months and haven't bought anything (other than one juniors top for $16) that I haven't really enjoyed wearing.

I did buy two pairs of white jeans in June, but those were something I'd been looking for for a while. So I consider those important, and they're something quite basic that I'll wear for a long time. I also bought the Okalas, in two colors—not sure if I'll be keeping (I already got the nude, and now I'm waiting for the black to arrive—then I'll need to play in my closet to determine if I really will have opportunity to wear them).

I won't detail purchases for May but will just say that I'm glad there was no moratorium on purchases for that month! My credit card is still smoking.

We need some kind of punishment for breaking just-say-no June (or any other month), to hold us accountable! Thanks for being so practical, Mo.

Very well, no clothes shopping for me. Thanks Mo for the idea.

I think NZers probably shop less in general than people in the US because clothes are more expensive here...huge generalisation I know. Also it is mid winter and wet and so I find clothes quite unappealing.

I would like a new winter hat but it is a want not a need so I can hold out until July....

I have not enabled!!

I did order the sandals Angie posted today. My feet are swollen already and many of my sandals that fit perfectly last year are too tight this year. So, I didn't really make it.

I am trying to save a chunk of clothing budget for after baby comes as I will need transitional wear until I fit back into my old clothes. I have definitely done that.

I bought a total of 4 clothing items and 2 pairs of shoes. One pair of shoes hasn't arrived yet so there's a good chance that they have to go back. And a couple of the things were ordered early in the month. Plus one of the items I had thought I was keeping but decided to return was purchased in May so that comes off the total, right?!

Overall, I think I've done pretty well and the budget is in good shape. I plan to wait until NAS for more purchases.

I had a near miss, I must confess. I was in Target shopping for other things and made the mistake of walking past their shoe section. They had the sandals on sale and I bought two pair. The next day, however, I realized that I'd mostly bought them as 'a treat' and they weren't needed or an 8/10, so they have since been returned.

I do have a few things in my anntaylor.com shopping bag as they were offering 40% off, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Really shouldn't until July, since my June budget is spent already.

I am enjoying rotating and remixing my summer wardrobe especially since it is very hot now on the east coast- I am wearing things that I don't get to other times of the year and it makes all new.
For my upcoming trip to NYC with a lot of walking in store, I did order a metallic pair of Birkenstock but I used money from items I sold on eBay so that doesn't count in my book:-).

I'm doing amazingly well (for me). What keeps me on the straight and narrow is that I hope to make some major purchases at Nordstorm's semi-annual sale. Delayed gratification.

I haven't shopped, but the RB sweats came after No Shopping June started. I'm just accumulating stuff in watchlists. But that was what happened to me in May, all the stuff in my watchlists went on sale and I had to make decisions. I think I'm much more set with my fall/winter wardrobe than summer. I still want to wait to see what NAS has to offer before I use up my budget. I have noticed a couple wardrobe holes so I may fill them before NAS because they are summer.

Ummm, not great, but not super bad. Does it help that I ordered jeans and a ton of shirts for DH due to Nordie's men's sale? DH hates to try on clothes, can't be dragged to the store, etc. and I would prefer that he wear tops other than ratty Ts.

In my defense, I found the the Kenneth Cole vest that I thought I had missed out on when it went from $138 to $54. And, uh, at the same time I found a gorgeous blue clutch that I could actually clutch. That doesn't explain the handful of other things yet to be delivered, but the jury is still out since I only seem to keep 15 - 20 % of online purchases.

And I had to replace a couple of bras. I think I finally found my holy grail so now I can stalk them as others wear out.

Marlene, I'm glad you're recuperating! Good job on the returns. I have some items in my closet with tags, but I haven't given up on them yet. Sometimes I don't get a chance to wear something before the weather becomes uncooperative. Uh, and one or two might have passed the return date -- doh!

Well I hadn't INTENDED to do a no-shop June but here I am in a no-shop June. I had major surgery on May 22nd and was on bedrest for a solid 2 weeks. I was so drugged on vicodin that i wasn't even interested in online browsing. After the vicodin was done, I was still at home, recovering and being off the drugs, I was able to rattle around in my closet. I started putting together a lot of fun outfits with the stuff I already have. Since then, I have have been wearing all the outfits! Its been super fun and I discovered a lot of great items and different ways to wear them.

I also discovered several items that still had tags on and NO DESIRE to wear them. What was I thinking? One of my first excursions out of the house was to return those bloopers.

I think I am going to ride out this wave of no-shop and continue working with what I already have until the next season change. I am enjoying putting my stuff to use and actually wearing them!

Well, you know I already caved and ordered a few more of my favorite super soft tees when they were on sale for $15. So, since I blew it anyway, I went ahead and ordered a duplicate UGG shoe to try in another color since the ones I have are so darn comfortable. Yes, that's shopper's math for sure. But really, I must say overall I'm doing pretty good. I wore two of my silk blouses recently instead of just admiring them in the closet. One for dinner at home with friends and the other out to lunch and errands. I didn't require any more special occasion (finally) to wear the "good stuff" and the sun still rose the next day.

I was doing so well until yesterday when J Crew sent me an email stating another 30% off sale items. I ordered three tees, all different. But, they were such a good price and I need them when riding in the convertible to block the sun. That is my story, anyway.
