I wore a trench over the PJ's too.

GP - yes kids do make it hard to be on time. My pressure point is shoes, They are always taking them off, leaving them all over the place, and having strong stances on which ones are comfortable.

Deborah - the day didn't really improve that much. No more mishaps but I was pretty down (not just due to this morning) and spent the day in unproductive wallowing! (here on YLF, watching last nights masterchef and eating way too much in the way of buttercream icing approximation) and procrastination about packing for our trip to the city. But I didn't let myself get back to this thread until the packing was done! Even though it too me til 11:30 pm.
Things should look up though. I LOVE school holidays and am really looking forward to seeing my family and hopefully some YLF people (for the first time!)

Kudos, anne, for getting the kids to school on time no matter what!! Pjs are probably pretty standard for those cars in the drop-off lane I'd be most bummed by the wet clothes on the line. Do you just wait for the rain to stop?

Claire's garbage story reminds me of more than once when my kids haven't put out the trash and I hear the garbage truck coming while I'm still in pjs. I usually knot my short nightie at the waist and throw on my yoga pants and run out with the trash. In the winter, I grab a long coat and somebody's boots left by the door. I bet they've seen a lot worse. . .

At least you didn't have curlers in your hair (lol)!

We have ALL done that or some version of it. Like Kari, I have been known to have to nip out quickly and hide my sinful attire under a trench coat. One time we ran out of toilet paper at home (now THAT'S an emergency!) and in the middle of winter went to the grocery store in my pj's but tucked the bottoms into my tall winter boots and threw my down coat over top. No one knew. We do what we gotta do!

Pat yourself on the back Anne - you got the kids to school on time, you didn't have any car trouble, and it's the last day!

Oh Anne, you poor dear. Please don't beat yourself up over that one. You can't control the weather, and that's terrible that all of your washing got soaked! Your kids will survive and live to tell their therapists about it someday, lol!

Like Kari, I pride myself on usually getting myself fully together before stepping out of my house, and will often not even walk around the corner to the mailbox unless I'm fully accessorized. One morning recently, after a particularly rough, sleepless night, I was at my computer (probably on YLF!) when I heard the garbage truck making it's way down my street. I had forgotten to but our bin out by the curb, and it was completely full of some rather rank smelling trash. I knew I couldn't risk skipping a week of pick-up. I jumped up in a panic and caught sight in a mirror of my wild hair-do (achieved by going to sleep on wet hair and then tossing and turning all night). I was bra-less of course and in a sheer summer nightie. So I opened the coat closet and threw on the first thing I saw. Then I stepped into the garage to get the bin and realized I'd need shoes so I wouldn't burn my feet on the pavement. The only thing by the door were my husband's elderly, beat up, painted in sneakers with the tongues cut off and laces missing. Well at least they were easy to slip on. I was praying no one would see me, but as soon as I flew out of the garage, I noticed my neighbor directly across the street from me tinkering on his truck with a buddy. I galloped down to the curb, holding the coat together with one hand and trundling the wheeled bin behind me with the other. It seemed like everything was in slow motion as my neighbor and his friend both looked up with their wrenches in hand and mouths agape. There was nothing else to do by smile and say hello and then I beat cheeks back to the safety of my garage. I'm just glad I didn't trip and fall in my husbands goofy shoes!

(Angie, avert your eyes):

The other day I needed to drop something off at the mailbox before jumping in the shower, and I really didn't want to get dressed just for a quick jaunt out in front of my building only to undress right away. I had on floral yoga-like pajama pants and a tank top, buttoned myself into a trench coat over it, and slipped on ballet flats. I'm sure I looked utterly ridiculous to the two guys who were moving furniture in while I passed by. Hello, neighbors!

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. And I'm sure they'll soon discover that I'm actually the crazy narcissistic neighbor who takes photos of herself on the balcony early in the morning!

The worst thing about parenting is having to be the grown-up! And look like a grown-up! This has happened to me too. The one good thing about people wearing pajamas as casual wear is no one batted an eyelash.

Wow, that's a lot of emergencies to deal with! Great job for getting the kids there on time! Pajamas are the least of your worries!

I found that I can never be on time anymore after I had kids...so hard to get everything packed and everyone ready and out the door. And there's always a last minute poopy diaper or tantrum to deal with. So kudos to you for rising to the challenge!

Haha, excellent story. I've had many a morning such as that. I've never personally been in my pajamas, but my four-year-old preschooler has been in his while we drop off my school-age daughter. He seems OK with it. :-)

The odd time I have a REALLY dreadful morning, I phone the school and tell them my kid is going to be ten minutes late. I don't want to be the mom with in pajamas with a flat tire (or, worse, in a car accident!)

I have gone out in a pajama top, wearing my son's camouflage Crocs, and I forgot to brush my teeth because we overslept and missed the bus. That was the day one of the teachers came running to my car to see how I was feeling....... ( let's not even talk about my hair ) .

As in pyjamas!
What a horrible morning. My alarm didn't go off so woke up 30-40 mins late. It rained nonstop from then until after 9 (and is raining again now). I had mommy guilt about sending one child to school with socks and sandals on a winters rainy day (she insisted her sneakers were too tight!) Another child was curled up in a ball on the floor because she couldn't find a long sleeve top. I have a line full of washing that is now drenched. And then, at 10 minutes before the bell rings, I discovered that my lift arrangements weren't happening so I had to take the kids myself.
The good side of all this is that I didn't have to get out of the car (kept hoping that this wouldn't be the one day the car would break down!) so no one saw. Thank goodness this is the last day of school before the holidays!
