Deborah,

Yes I was having a low moment and probably getting a bit into a self critical mire!! Am a bit prone to that on sat afternoons on my own with the kids!
I think you are right that the blazer is better with pants than skirts, and will try out the new camera on your suggestions (once DH has set it up to download!)

Anne I think this jacket is great on you. I wouldn't have it altered. I think you might just be being a little to self critical? I find it very flattering and gives you a lovely shape. Now you have your new camera (yay) why not try some styling options. I am thinking g this jacket just might work best over slim pansy or jeans. Keep the neckline simple and what does it look like open? Ok here is what I am thinking... Slim jeans, shoes with a bit of a heel), blouse untucked (simple neckline, no collar) jacket open and a long pendant)

alldogs - I don't know if it is deliberately cut like that.

Shiny, Angie, all those who say don't alter - I don't know if I can manage it!!

I have hangups about my rib cage - it is fairly large for my size (30 inches underbust, a little bigger further down) and I think it got bigger with pregnancy. I tried on my wedding dress the other day, and it fit everywhere but was a little tight on the rib cage.

I don't necessarily mind a higher waist seam, but I just don't know. I guess I prefer a more fitted look further down the torso. I have 2 casual jackets and a suit jacket that do provie this, though I don't know if you can really tell the difference - maybe it is all in my mind.
I think I am in the reverse position from Zap on her dress the other day

I really do take the point about lengthening legs, and shortening the waist! I guess this is getting me down and I am tempted to just wear, you know a housedress or something! What I am actually wearing (at home) is homemade wide leg too short sweatpants and an old sweaterdress, now bagged out!

I know it is stupid to be concerned because I am 1.5 kg over my top of range weight. But I have been looking at photos from last year when I was about 3.5 kg (7 lb?) less and gosh I looked so much better. I just don't know how to dress right now!!

Hi Anne, I'm with Angie & the others in thinking the jacket is flattering. I'm long-waisted too, so I know it can be hard to find pieces with waistlines that hit at mine. But I'm thinking perhaps this jacket is purposely cut that way? To my eyes at least, it looks like it has a similarly flattering effect to an empire waistline, which fits closely above the waist & then skims gracefully down from there.

I'm with Vix. It appears that your waist is well above the pockets, even if it isn't. I have a short waist (and often move skirts down below it to make it appear longer) and love when a jacket does the magic trick as well.

Hi Anne --

You already know from your other thread that I think this jacket looks great on you, so please:

dooooooon't aaaaaalter

(unless as Suz said it's uncomfortable)

My holy grail is jackets that move my short waist down a bit, so maybe I'm confused about why you don't like the way this moves your long waist up.

I'm with Angie, Anne. I just don't see a thick midsection here. I see a lovely nipped in "waist."

Of course if it is uncomfortable, I can understand why you don't like it. But in terms of appearance, it gives you a waist and lovely proportions.

Yes Anne, I would leave as-is too. (Having just shortened the sleeves of a jacket only to find that they were uneven in the first place!)

I'm with Angie on this. Don't remove the pockets just yet. Instead, let's rechristen "Anne's endlessly long legs jacket (AELLJ)"...and try a mental alteration first...

I guess I meant since the flare and pockets obscure the waist, Angie. It isn't that it is a boxy cut, just that it makes me feel thick around the midsection!
My guess is that you are thinking of the vertical dimensions?

May I suggest that you leave the jacket as is, Anne. The waistline might not be in the correct place, but it's SOOOOO flattering. I cannot for the life of me understand where this jacket is boxy from this photo. Help me out?

I'm not at all sure about that Claire! I don't think I am very good. But maybe it is worth trying since the stakes aren't high!

And yes, absolute story of my life. Prob worse for you, since you are 3 inches taller! Most things don't get bought if the waist is too high, but it seems some get through the radar

This is the story of my life Anne! Every dress or belted jacket I get puts the waist very high up on my ribcage. I have tried to alter a few things and for the record, they never look quite as good afterwards. But you are a much better seamstress than I am!

That's so interesting, Anne. It looks as if your waist is where the jacket shows it. Hmmm.

I guess you can try it and see what happens. It is worth a shot!

In yesterday's thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ll-keeping I wrote that I thought this jacket boxy, and got lots of comments to the contrary.

I think I have worked out what was happening with the difference between your perception and mine!!

The thing is - that I am long waisted. My waist is actually in the middle of the pockets, a feature I have decided is not a great one on me on any garment. I tried Shiny's suggestion to put a belt over it, and it cinches in right on top of the pockets.

I have had this jacket for 2 winters now. It is stretch fabric, and not an investment piece or worth getting tailored. But I am contemplating trying to alter it myself - to remove the pockets, take in the back seam and maybe the darts and me what I can do, It wouldn't be a big deal if I ruin it!
