I don't see them much in the UK. I do have a pair myself, given to me by my sister (who is a nurse, funnily enough!).

I really dig that sneaker-y pair that you linked to, though. I can see myself wearing something like that with jeans. Because, well, that's pretty much all I wear at the moment.

I have a pair of Ugg knock-offs that I think are actually better than real ones. They are just as ugly but they have a proper sole that comes up about 2 inches around the foot, so they can be worn in light snow or rain.

Sounds like the clogs' popularity has much to do with environmental factors. Here in the California Bay Area they are not that popular. Californians are definitely flip-flop and Ugg wearers (heh)!

I find my various pull-on boots do nicely for supportive footwear that can be taken off and put on quickly.

Rosee, I just got the blue cabrios!. Have worn a black and a brown pair for the last 5 years or so, mostly with bootcuts, the way that Angie describes. I'm a MOTG in the suburbs of SF. Very few people where I live wear them, but I have converted at least a couple : )

I don't care -- I love my Dansko Professionals (full heel, in navy blue). Great run around town shoes to wear with bootcut jeans! Rarely (if ever?) wear them with anything else like skirts or other pants. I like the look of a traditional clog as it has a slight retro European style (wore them growing up).
They are somewhat popular with the urban artsy crowd in my city (as well as the Birkenstock Gizeh and Blundstone boots, both of which I also have). I live in an inner city neighborhood, close to hip and artsy urban places and universities, in western Canada in a city with over 1million population -- if that helps.

The Danskos with the backs (vs. the backless classic clog, which somehow seems more stylish to me) are the quintessential, ubiquitous female academic shoes, at least in my neck of the woods.

Gee whiz.... those Lynnea Uggs and the Muk Luks are... kinda cute. LOL. I had a pair of fake pink Uggs once. They were comfy, I'll admit, but they were tack-ee. I had go toss them because they were tack-ee... ok, and got ratty pretty fast.

Can't rightly say I've ever seen Merrel Mocs. But I am curious to go looking. Went camping this weekend in the most unprepared way. Really went to check up on plot of land and then veered off into the woods for overnight. Had only a pair of flip flops and Crocs that ought to be tossed. And NO COFFEE OR MARSHMALLOWS.

hehe.

Sona, that is how we are here - the mad scuffle of "Whose Danskos/Merrells/ Sorels/Uggs are these?" I have the Joplin Uggs and think they're kind of cute, for Uggs. But uggs are not waterproof, so no good in slush!

I live in UGG-eno-sota. I do own a pair of UGG's but have ended up finding them not practical, ugly and too common. However they are easy to get on and off and perfect for when its super cold but no snow cover and you are going toa neighbor's house for din- din. ( except then there is a mad fight to find 'your' ugg's right after!) Have not ventured into Dansko-ville but I will say that weather like ours ( AK, MN, the Dakotas, much of Canada) does make days ugly shoes do have a role to play until someone takes pity on us and creates ugg-cellent-fantas-kos.

Doctors wear them, lawyers wear them . . . actually, not that many SAHM's wear them--- they stick to running shoes and flip flops.

I can't say they are all that popular in the circles I run in anyway, in Tahoe. I do have some Doc Marten's slides that I keep by the door to run into the garage for laundry or the mailbox, etc. I much more often see Sorel's in the winter - clogs just won't cut it when the snow starts to pile up. And when it's not snowing yet, most people are fine with sneakers in the skateboard style.

I agree, rachylou - I don't find the clogs all that comfy. I prefer the Merrell Mocs, but I wear those only for camping or very casual outfits like dog walking. The reviews are ravingly positive too.

Hej! Cool! I have a slip on version of the Veda's, Enginemom!

Dansko's are totally ubiquitous where I live, which is very urban. They are practically unknown farther out in the suburbs. Sort of the opposite of what might be expected. But they're too funky for the suburbs and also it's not like you can get anywhere walking out there. Where I live, it's all walking... and artisan foodie urban hipster homesteading. I consider Dansko's a form of native costume, really.

Have to tell y'all, tho, I think there HAS to be a shoe that's more comfortable for standing around in all day than Dansko clogs. I'm on a quest.

I have the shoe(s) for you.

They hit all the points you want except they are too funky to be conventionally attractive.

(I've been considering the blue/purple one myself but they're a bit too much like a loafer for my current impractical lifestyle)

Well - no, you don't really see them around here. But my mom, who lives in the midwest and gets brutal winters and also has really "bad" i.e. painful feet wears them all year round - and she is able to pull them off with pizzazz! I think that you have such an incredible unique style that you could wear them and give a whole new meaning to practical, functional Dansko clogs - then everybody would be wanting to wear them for their style, rather than their practicality!

enginemom, those are adorable!

I have the Ryders and love them for the same reason - a bit more style, but still Dansko comfort.

I just bought my first Dansko shoes....for all the reasons you outlined above! However, I got THESE:

http://www.thewalkingcompany.c.....uede/19959

When you wear them with jeans, they look more shoe-like and less clog-like than the usual Dansko footwear. But they have all the support that you need for the MOTG dashing around. I think fall is just around the corner so I'll be able to do a more serious test-walk fairly soon. Its been too hot to really give them a true trial!

It really is VERY difficult to find cute yet supportive shoes. I really do not want anything that makes me look like I was just at the gym or about to head out in a kayak. But I still need that FUNCTION in my daily suburban-warrior lifestyle.

I wish I could buy Dansko's where I live so that I could use them as a work (down and dirty) shoe. For all the reasons you listed. My cute office shoes would live in the office and to and from work.

People who are on their feet all day need them. Esp. teachers love them here, but lots of MOTG's, and some of us "older" folks who can't wear the less structured shoes or higher heels. It isn't a very common look, though not out of place.

I can't wear them myself because I need support with flexibility. I could possibly wear the open backs, but since can't wear pumps or ballet flats because they fall off my heel, I can't wear the shoe versions.

Yes. Very common in the suburbs. I live in the city and see far fewer Dansko clogs on the street.
