JenniNZ, totally fair to not count the gumboots. I don't count things like garden gloves and aprons. They're tools!

rachylou, there may well be a shopping spree in my future. We'll see how I handle the move.

Joy, oh goodness, I hope not.

Aww thanks, Sterling. I do have some impulse purchases in there, and a couple that have only been worn a few times. We'll see how they work out. Limiting my color palette and setting boundaries is all well and good, but it does make me a little magpie-y when I see my colors.

Style Fan, my Nisolo sandals are requiring some breaking in. I've worn them six times, and they're fine for light walking, but definitely not for higher-step-count days. I do think they'll mold to my feet eventually, but I have normal-width feet and I think they might work best for narrow.

Thanks, shevia. I'm far from perfect, but I'm getting better!

Sal, I have a couple things like that, also not counted--my holey and paint-splattered college sweatshirt comes to mind. Also, the very old shoes that live in the entry and just get slipped on for mail runs and to move the sprinkler.

As for complementary colors, I like the color of this shirt in Finds (also also the lighter grayish blue in the print), Not quite duck-egg, but similar! I always have my eye out for pieces in that color that might work.

suntiger, more sandals, I'm sure!

M, suntiger has you covered!

Hi ~M! I kinda instigated the challenge-early this year as an experiment.
The idea is to set a number of items you wish to purchaae for the year (as opposed to or combined with a $$ number)-whatever you feel is right. You can choose to not count categories like underwear, gear, etc. You make up the rules! The idea is mindful purchasing-to buy just the right things for your needs.

$$ budgets can be helpful, but can lead to a lot of nickle and diming to "make the money go farther" and not necessarily the best choices from experience.
Each month we check in what we bought and why.
Not everyone participates, but quite a few of us do.

Nicely done - love those new sandals. Do you like blush or duck egg or teal? These could be work brilliantly with the rusty terracotta shades?

I am counting the same way which makes sense to me. Gear is a cost and I want to make good decisions around the purchase of it - and there is a crossover into my daily closet.

I do have this kind of weird lounge/ old clothes category where I have old sneakers, slightly pulled sweaters etc. I don’t really count these as part of the wardrobe. They get worn in the garden or cleaning etc

You are amazing and wise to stick to your plan and see what you might need after the move. I suspect expensive looking casual clothes. Trendy with a capital T. I suspect it will be pricy athleisure.

This is awesome as usual! Congratulations on sticking to the plan. Everything you have bought is so cohesive too. I aim to emulate you but still a work-in-progress. I’m trying for no more than 30 items as it was 29 last year, and I hope to edit out at least the same number. I cheat a small amount like I’m not counting my new gumboots ( Wellington boots) for the new house garden as they should last 10 years or so. They’re only the second pair I have bought in my adult life. My teenage ones lasted until last year incredibly though they were badly split at the top! Lasted 40 years though, not bad! They actually did better than the 9-year old pair which also had to go as they developed a split/hole further down that could let water in.

Done purchasing for June, so I'm reporting in.

In our yearlong shopping challenge, I committed to buying 31 or fewer items (not counting undergarments).

January - 0 items

February - 5 items

March - 2 items

April - 2 items

May - 4 items

June - 1 item

Just added one pair of sandals in June. I needed something slightly more polished than my current options for my son's graduation mid-month, so I ordered a pair of ankle-strap flats from Nisolo, and they've already racked up six wears.

This brings my total purchases for the year to 14 items. All my 2019 buys are in Finds below and in the linked collection. I've retired 21 items this year, so my wardrobe is shrinking. All in all, I have 113 items in my closet, if I count all categories except jewelry, underwear and sleepwear (though I am counting sleep/lounge in my 31 items and my retirements. If you're curious, adding sleep/lounge would boost my total wardrobe count to 130 items).

I have a couple of slow fashion items on my wishlist for summer yet, but slow, in this case, means made-to-order, so I won't pull the trigger on those until I have an address in LA. Since summer should last a good two-three months longer there, I don't mind waiting. I anticipate getting pretty bored around August and wanting an infusion of novelty to last me through October/November.
