Thanks Lana - I work at a small airport with a hangar, office and workshop so flat comfortable shoes are essential. I did used to wear heels but I think practicality and fashion have led me towards flatter shoes. I can't believe some of the shoes I used to wear on a daily basis!!

Thanks Angie, Janet and Kelly.

I do often find second hand pieces get me the very best finds - although the error rate is higher maybe because I am more experimental and less picky.

Thanks Bijou. I honestly don’t worry about my appearance all that much but standing by young tall people with great collagen can make you feel aged….. There were parents at the pre hall party and lots of people getting photos.

The weather is definitely changing.

That coatigan was made for you, it is all sorts of fab, a gorgeous length on you.

My goodness, your son has grown up fast! You look beautiful in all the photos and it is always great to actually get a photo with the kiddos, mine is now reluctant to pose.

We are having a sunny winter with gorgeous weather, which is a bit disturbing because it should be raining most days. The morning and evenings are icy cold, so I am happily wearing my coats and puffer jackets.

Thanks Star. The coatigan was a steal - it’s a NZ designer piece that’s at least 20 years old due to the discontinued label.

Brooklyn - thanks. I am trying to not overthink my outfits at the moment.

Robin- thank you! My son looked dapper and has a lot of fun.

Thanks Angie. I do agree that I need some softness in my looks and I like outfits that achieve a balance with softness and something more tailored. I am learning the balance!

This son is having a lot of fun being in his last year of school. Mostly in a good way but there are some hi- jinks. Yes the coatigan was a lucky find. Long lines are my friend!!

Thank you Cardiff Girl. They seem to all really love the ball/ prom season. Although it’s a bit exhausting.

Thank you Gingko. I think getting the colours right is so helpful. I don’t always manage to do so.

Thanks Lyn. It’s mid winter here which is often more gloomy than wet. It’s a time when focusing on fashion is a good distraction.

Thanks Helena - what a nice compliment.

Have a great trip to Melbourne, and DS is looking very dapper and handsome! KILLER looks!

Yay for the unplanned thrift store finds too.

Looking sooooo good Sally! KILLER scarf execution. Flamboyantly natural and elegant!

FWIW, I LOVE it when you add soft and pretty touches to your style like scarves, dresses, skirts, wide crops, silky fabrics, florals, soft pleated pants, camisoles, and white accents! Really suits you.

My KILLER faves are #2, 7 and 8.

Your son is so tall, and he looks fab in his suit...and not at all mad you're taking his photo, which is WAY more than I can say for mine in the school dance photos I have!

Rachy - except I wear shoes and scarves and coats too.

Basically seven bottoms, 14 tops (sweaters, tees and shirts) and three dresses. There were a few days I basically wore gear all day, but there were days I changed to go out at night. I am going to track again in July and August and see what I think. I have a handful of winter appropriate pieces that I am yet to wear, so I will see if I pull them out.

Thanks Suz. I was a mild case - but had to isolate for about ten days due to the timing with my husband and son getting the Vid too. I was lucky.

Slimcat - 9 was one of my favourites too although this could be due to the fact it was for a lovely brunch on a nice day!! My son dressed up well - he doesn't usually wear this (but he does wear a blazer and tie to school every day).

Thanks Jaime - yes I do like changing things up. Although in winter it is very much a fine merino knit, trousers/jeans/cords, scarf and practical boots or sneakers. Our weather is erratic - as you can see one day I was wearing a tank and a light jacket, and then today I have a merino dress, tank, scarf and am reluctant to take off my coat..... This son does enjoy clothes (unlike his older brother). He was quite interested in the ball suits and combos with his partner (she wore red to one, and a mauve/dusky pink to the second).

Looking pretty cute! What a great find in the coatigan! The 72 number intrigues me. Basically a different top and bottom every day, yes? Which totally adds up, but I also wonder if you will wear the 72 again next month as well. I have this feeling that I wear 30 for 30 days and then the next month switch to a totally different set of 30 the following month. And I have so many items… I wonder how many months I could go without any repeats at all — but I do have favourites, has to be said.

Great outfits. I noticed the lowish rise trousers in #3 and love how you are able to switch up silhouettes. Coatigan is great, you do low contrast as in #4 beautifully but also look great in brights like #5. Jacket in #8 is always a winner. And your son inherited your style gene!

Thanks Suntiger. I have worn it three times in the last four - it's really comfortable and perfect for my winter wardrobe.

Merwoman - thanks - my son looked great and his date too. We purchased him the first outfit and then my brother in law offered to lend him his tuxedo (with the theme being Casino) so he had two different outfits. It meant I could borrow the jacket three nights later and it made me want one of my own!!

Love the photo of you and your dashing son, formal attire looks so good on him. And great cold weather styling, the coatigan is suberb, and the taupe coloured pants work with everything.

Good morning,

June was a month of two halves! The first half was spent in isolation both with covid and isolating. Luckily I had a mild dose. The second half has involved a reunion weekend for my high school, my son attending two balls and all the leadup to this, and a few teenage dramas.

I ended up wearing the black sheath to the reunion along with a borrowed black tuxedo jacket (the one my son is wearing). I felt good on the night so that's the main thing. Sadly no photos except with all my friends....

New in my wardrobe
I was not planning to buy anything in June, but I did end up with two additions. I was looking for a slip at a local boutique and ended up with a HEWI - a cream belt with gold hardware. I was delighted. And when at the "curated" thrift shop next door looking for teaspoons I found a long black coatigan, that I love. Super useful and really high quality. This thrift store has staff who are good at upselling and the coatigan would only work on a tall person as it's almost to my ankles.

Lessons from tracking
I wore 72 pieces in June, of which 26 were gear or sportswear, 10 were accessories. I didn't track jewelry or bags. My running shoes and brown chunky boots were the most well worn with 12 and 11 wears each. Keeping in mind I was sick for a week and not doing much proper exercise (just walks in the park in whatever shoes I was wearing) I should not begrudge the cost when the sports shoes need replacing - and potentially having two pairs could even be a good idea? Outer wear got a lot of wear - not surprising in mid winter.

WIW
A few photos are attached - of mixed quality. I share a work office with three males in their 20s and keeping it tidy is a challenge.....

red leather jacket and denim off to work networking session. I was on the dressy side....

black sweater dress worn to work

cords and jacket and new belt worn to work

another work look featuring my colleague's track bike

a very cold morning - off to work

off to set up for the pre ball party

what I wore to the pre ball party

off to drinks at our school reunion (please excuse the mess)

morning brunch with my friends for the school reunion

new black coatigan at work (messy office)

my son off to first ball

a really awful photo of me at the second ball with my son - he looked most handsome!!

Moving into July
We are off to Melbourne for a few days in the middle of the month - and so I do hope to do some shopping there. My main goal is a new tote bag - aside from that I don't have anything fixed in mind. So I won't be shopping before then.

That's all for now, July is typically the worst month here - both wet and cold and foggy - but this year I have two 50ths and a trip to Melbourne to look forward to.

Thanks for reading...
