Only dressy/sleek compared to duck boots though! hehe Thank goodness I don't need to dress business casual; the shoes would be the death of me.

Ohhh, E, those blue duck boots are great ... but I already have 3 pair of gear boots, just bought a brand new hiking pair. I'm looking for something dressier/sleeker.

I looked up Church's shoes, since I hadn't heard of them, and those are some beautiful looking brogues! Not many options in the women's section though. Yes, the Aurora soles are FAR sturdier/thicker than the Arletta's. I wouldn't even think to compare them to be honest: the Borns feel like a fashion shoe, unlike the Auroras. The Auroras are on a similar level to the Birkenstock sandals I have, except they're more flexible.

As far as navy ankle boots go, I am eyeing these with great covetousness. Might be too 'traipsing through the woods' for you though!

Sounds like you have your closet sorted for the moment. And cobalt is a smashing color on you!

Navy ankle boots are unicorns, even if you don't need super high end comfort. I have been looking for well over a year and my closet is still void of them.

Not sure your shoe budget, but given your feet, I would definitely stick to really good, comfy brands. To keep the budget in check, I recommend stalking Amazon. You can find some excellent comfort brands on sale there for 50% or more off on occasion. Yes, it may be last year's style. Or, there in one pair left in that size and Amazon is just clearing it out. (My sister did this a lot when she was a teacher. Standing a big chunk of the day was hard on her feet, but she didn't have a large clothing allowance).

Shevia, they are SILVER hairs and erm ... tracks of wisdom??

fern!!!
Someone else with the Keens! This is actually my 3rd pair of the exact
same shoe (over a period of about 8 years). I wore the first pair into
the ground, and the second pair needs to be tossed, they are so ratty
and worn down they are not fit to be seen in public. These are the most
comfortable shoes I've ever worn, hands down. I only wish they were slightly more refined looking.

E, I am glad to hear you say that about the Born Arlettas - I also have a pair and also
find the sole is too flimsy for real walking. This encourages me about
the Auroras - I've been worried their sole would be too flimsy for me as
well. My holy grail brogue is Church's. A friend of mine had a pair
and let me try them and they are heaven. But well out of my price range
... for now at least. And navy ankle boots are sort of like unicorns
as far as I'm concerned.

Sterling, I was thinking 67 for 2 months seemed rather high given the whole 333 thing (33 garments for 3 months), but then, as I keep saying, I'm not a minimalist ...

I think 67 is a GREAT number. It doesn't seem excessive or minimal to me. It sound pretty perfect.

My summer has been hot and extra casual, so we'll see how my count ends up. I got the teal Keens too and I already know they are my most-worn shoe this summer. Quality shoes matter.
Good luck with the job search!

What clever lessons you've learned! And you look so relaxed & happy in those pics: I love them. Your outfit is great too. ;)

I've spent the past 2 years revamping my shoe closet too: it's really difficult on a tight budget. Now that I have 3 pairs of Auroras (1 via ebay for $40!) I spend most of the warmer months alternating between them for walking & then add my ankle boots (3 pairs)/taller boots (3 pairs, assuming I find a grey knee high replacement) as soon as weather permits. I can wear other shoes (although they're all still comfort brands), including sandals, for errand running or daily life events, but my Auroras have spoiled me for other walking shoes.

I would still love to find a pair of sturdy walking oxfords (my Born Arlettas are very comfy but the sole isn't as thick as I would like for real walking), but we'll see if the shoe budget stretches that far this year. I might check Timberland's offerings, as my feet seem to like them. Anyway, those 9 pairs, in various neutrals, get me through most of my life, with enough 'extras' that I can let each pair rest so it lasts longer: add a pair of neutral dressier pumps for fancier occasions and I'm functionally set. Of course, speaking stylistically, I'd eventually like to add a red shoe or two & a navy ankle boot, as well as that oxford I mentioned.

I kept close track of what I wore in June and July. This includes a 2 week trip to CA and a wedding, so a few things included in the totals would not normally be worn. Also it's been an unusually cold summer, so I've worn long pants nearly half the days this summer, which is highly unusual, as well as 3 toppers and a raincoat, which is unheard of for Oklahoma summers. Anyway, the totals are:
14 bottoms
29 tops
3 toppers
3 dresses
for a total of 49 items of clothing

I also wore 1 raincoat and 17 pair of shoes which brings the total to 67. This does not include scarves (maybe 6?), bags (about 4), or jewelry (lots and lots).

My most worn items were all purchased in June: teal suede Keens (15 wears), boyfriend crops (11 wears), and a cobalt T (4 wears), all pictured below. Normally I would not have worn the cobalt T 4 times, but I brought it to CA and so it got a work out.

What I'm learning: I'm not going to be happy with a 10 item wardrobe or even a 33 item wardrobe. I lurves my variety, especially shoes and tops. Also I absolutely do not need any more summer casual clothes (with the exception of shoes - I'm in the process of completely revamping my shoe wardrobe thanks to a size change and some arthritis issues). There are some things I'd like, such as pair of white jeans and print pants, but I still have summer clothing that hasn't been worn (although not pants). Also I really really want a cognac bag, and this is actually something of a need rather than a want since my only summer bag is cobalt. But it will have to wait for next summer.

In the coming months I need to focus on shoes. The vast majority of my shoes are only comfortable for a few hours, and so need to be weeded out and replaced with high quality, more comfortable items. This, far more than the wrinkles and grey hairs, tells me I'm getting (have gotten) old!

And unless I find a job - NO NEW CLOTHES!!!
