The other route in winter (the one I use) is to cover the very loose-fitting top and bottom with a structured piece, like a tailored sleeveless vest. In the winter you have a couple options then. One would be to pick either top or bottom for volume, and then do the other with something tailored OR something fluid (which will net you a voluminous look, just less so). Another would be to use boots and a jacket to reign in a truly voluminous look, both of which can add a fair amount of structure (a cardigan won't add enough). You can also do things like a belted voluminous dress with tights+boots, tapered slouchy pants with booties, and blousy silky tops either belted or welted with fluid pants.
