I enjoyed this thread (Missed you!!!)

I was gong to suggest what Sara has, and Rae makes a great suggestion to shop in the girls department.

I loathe overly tight knickers and unlike Kari, usually purchase a size up. I wear boyshorts so the style is forgiving when worn a little less tight. I like Soma boyshorts, but they are not cotton rich so that won't help you

1st: So good to see you again! Missed you here. :D

About the knickers...I need cotton, too. Honestly, I sometimes go to the little girls' section because they seem to have more cotton content and less elastic. I don't support childhood obesity per se, but the girls' plus sizes come in handy... o_0

Have you tried the cotton boy short underwear? I wear thongs and find them super comfortable but if you wear dresses and skirts you may prefer the coverage of the boy shorts (however, hubby may prefer something less practical...).

Good luck!

Aww, that sounds like quite the conundrum!! Are you close to a Nordstroms? They have such an exceptional return policy that if they carried ANYTHING that looks remotely possible, and knew your issues, they might be willing to work with you on this. . .

Sizing: I figure a 5 is quite small (pants size 2-4), 6 is medium (size 6-8), 7 is large (10-12), and 8 more XL (14-16).

Hope others chime in!

Trial and error, honestly.
Finding one that works: I look for a fabrication and amount of coverage that I've traditionally found comfortable, buy just a couple pairs to see if I like them, and come back to buy more if they work. If not... well, those become my "time of the month" undies that I don't care so much about staining.
Sizing: the number is usually a few sizes UNDER my pants/dress size.

Dear YLF...
I haven't posted for a looong while, too busy and had been making do with so-so outfits.. *sad face*. I'll come back to address that later I hope, soon. What's needing immediate attention, are my underwear shopping woes!

WARNING: TMI ahead!

I must have developed some strange allergy to non-cotton, and/or certain types of elastane. Red rashes popped up along the bikini/elastic lines at the inner thighs, and the belly area where covered by underwear (mid-rise). So I shopped for a different cut, all cotton, non-exposed elastics. That was some quest, and then they don't fit right. I think I'm between sizes and my rise is not typical. I can't keep on plopping down good $$ keep on trying different sizes, cuts, brands.

About the SBF part.. I finally got frustrated and wore my DH's briefs as I needed something loose but still with a smaller waist, and they fit nicely and super comfy and no allergic reactions!!! DH is quite appalled by the non-sexiness and insist that I cannot leave the house in them... LOL.

How do you ladies shop for knickers? It's not like you can return if doesn't fit right.. I have a few that works only because they are loose, but would have VPL issues (non-issue now since i'm living in skirts/dresses). And honestly, I am still confused with how the sizing works, *blushing*, surly the number is not the size of your pants? Please share your strategy in shopping for underwear? Or any other insights? TIA..
