About 20 years ago, what I thought was a mild cold caught over Labor Day weekend was finally diagnosed at Thanksgiving as Whooping cough. I'd not seen a doc, because the cough sort of just crept up, getting just a wee bit worse every day and it seemed, well, normal to cough so hard I would nearly vomit. I was also in really good shape so my body was not as stressed as it should have been. It was caught by my allergy clinic when I went in for a quarterly injection. They were appalled and yelled at me. I have been told that in Japan, whooping cough is called "100 day cough." And mine hung around for about 3 months.&nbsp;</p> <p>As I look back on it, it was nasty and I'm glad your case was caught early and you are being treated for it. I fully understand how being sick knocks out your ability to perform music. I got mono my freshman year of college, was at the infirmary for a week, and it took me a full month to get back enough basic physical stamina to be able to go back to my flute lessons. It was really frustrating. Don't try to rush your recovery, let yourself heal, you will sort out all your plans in good time. (They've since changed this).&nbsp;</p> <p>On May 15, I got flat-on-my-back sick, and have relapsed just in time for vacation. &nbsp;I'm on my second antibiotic, and I'm sure I'll mend, but I could use some prayers and good thoughts. &nbsp;I can't sing --- at all -- at a time I should be working on nuance and stamina for my program. &nbsp;I'm also not in any shape to interview. &nbsp;Actually, many music therapy interview involve working with clients, which I shouldn't do until I know I'm not contagious.</p> <p>It's slowing me down. &nbsp;And I'm not patient! &nbsp;But, I'm trying to make the most of the time. &nbsp;Studying my music, reading, doing some brainstorming and self-inventory to assist me in my job search, and spending time playing games and hanging out with my kids and DH. </p> <p>&nbsp;Fortunately, we're in a lovely vacation home, and I can take a nap on the porch while listening to the waves lap the edge of the lake.<br />I walked along the lake today and, if things go well, will make time for an easy bike ride tomorrow.</p> <p>Fashion? &nbsp;Keeping it simple -- and that's OK! </p>
