1. All man-made. I don't purchase shoes made from any animal products, so that's a deal-breaker.
2. Style. I won't wear ugly shoes.
3. Comfort.
4. Price. I have spent a lot of money on shoes and boots and I am fine with that.

I'm at the point where the main factor I consider is comfort. Whether I'm getting more picky or my feet are getting fussier but I'm finding it harder to find shoes. As a gal who once notoriously had 75 pairs of shoes I'm down to 15 pairs of footwear (oops 14 I've decided to return a pair of sandals which aren't comfy enough!) I'm not buying any more shoes which have limited wear options I have 3 pairs of heeled party shoes and that's it!! all others need to able to be worn all day. I will quite happily pay the earth (within reason) for comfy shoes x

1. Comfort/ how often can they be worn
2. Style
3. Price

1. Style
2. Price
3. quality
4. comfort

I tend to not care how often I'll wear them but I've never spent more than $75 on any shoes or boots so I can afford not to care lol.

Shoes are the one thing I feel fairly confident choosing..

Quality comes first, they need to be leather and well made.

Fit and comfort come second, as I have a wider foot.

If they feel great on (and that includes walking around in them), I go look in the mirror and judge how they look, colour and style.

Angie's comment on Michelle's new shoes thread doesn't leave my head and consequently I find myself thinking about what matters to me. I'm trying to clarify the shoe-shopping guidelines similar to the ones described in this blog post about buying clothes.

For me, the quality is a paramount. I believe that the shoes, handbag and hairstyle make or break the outfit, with shoes being the most difficult to get it right - apart from having to satisfy visual requirements, they must also be functional. I must admit that Angie's matra "happy feet, happy me" had elevated the expectations I have from the shoes to the next level for me too. And I thought I was shoe-fussy!

I prefer all-leather shoes and avoid if at all possible those with non-leather lining. I do have one pair of patents and one from fabric-like material and those my only exceptions. My dad had always been adamant that good, quality shoes cannot be too expensive (disclaimer: all within common sense) and I never objected I do not own any designer shoes, but I do have a few pairs that were quite pricey and from the trusted brands, which proved to be worth the money paid for them.

So:
1. quality (material and craftmanship)
2. style
3. heel height vs. purpose
4. how many times am I likely to actually wear them
5. price vs. (1-4)

Over to you, what matters to you when you are shopping for shoes?
