This is gorgeous. I really need to figure out some sort of jewelry storage system. I definitely don't wear mine as much as I should because it's stored in weird and sometimes inaccessible places. The only thing I wear regularly are my watches and rings, which live in a little dish by the bed...

Years ago I bought a jewelry cabinet from a store that was going out of business. I still have it, and really enjoy using it. It has a lot of hooks for hanging necklaces, velvet-lined drawers for other jewelry (in various sizes to fit rings, earrings, bracelets, etc.) and the inside of the lid has a mirror on it. Oh, and it has some drawers on the bottom that are great for storing pantyhose, etc.

Love that use of the armoire. Great space for things that are not easily stored. I think one of the reasons that I am not a jewelry person is that I've never had proper storage. I now use 1 sock-depth drawer that is built into the wall of our very small walkin closet. I lay my necklaces flat but they roll around and get tangled. i have a couple of small containers for earrings, but they're just piled together. I don't really think about it since I rarely wear them anymore.

I do like have things in this drawer so I can look at all of it at one, rather than digging through different boxes.

Inspired to hit up the Container Store for better tools for organizing this drawer. Thank you.

Wow, how cool, Janet, and the others who have shared. I like the idea of combining purse and jewelry storage - I don't have that much jewelry and right now it's in the top drawer of my dresser and in a jewelry organizer on top of the dresser. But I have 'invested' in a couple actually nice purses and I never know what to do with them when they're not being used. Time to ponder...

So, I found the ancient closet thread (Plea to Greg: could search-by-date include an "oldest first" feature -- threads with "Closet" in the title go back more than 50 pages, ouch) http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-thread-1

I didn't want to lose the link so am posting it now, but I couldn't see any pictures because Photobucket is "down for maintenance."

Anyone know if that notice has been on their homepage for several years now? ;)

I am a fiend for closet organization. So, Janet -- <swoon> Love your customized armoire.

A hundred years ago, I posted photos of the closet at my old house, in which my necklaces were hung on a men's tie rack mounted on the back wall of the closet. It may have been back when YLF didn't have photo-posting and we all used PhotoBucket. (I said it was a hundred years ago!)

I'm going to go look for those photos and will post if I locate them.

How beautifully organized! I love the armoire...I wish I had space for something like this. But I have to say- I love your hat collection! I have a few hats myself now....haven't seen anyone wear them casually here....so I tend to use mine only at the beach too. (That's when I'm on holiday and go to the beach).

I really need something like this too! You've given me food for thought.

Right now, I have two large jewelry boxes - one for necklaces and one for earrings plus bracelets. Each piece is in its own small see-through pouch, but it's a pain to find the exact necklace u want when you can't see them all at a glance. Hats are in one section of my cuoboard. Bags have a cuoboard to themselves.

I think I'll find place to keep a stand-alone armoire too....one filled with all accessories!

My husband made this for me last Christmas. I'd picked up the frame (oh how I wished I'd also purchased the match!). He bought a door to get the screen I wanted! What a dear. This is just for necklaces. My dresser top is covered with boxes that sort and organize bracelets, earrings etc

Janet that is a lovely way to store your accessories! It's such a beautiful wardrobe and so clever to repurpose it like that.

Comparatively, my accessories collection is quite a bit smaller and I have purged a great deal. I now only have quality pieces and some carefully chosen costume pieces:).

I have short necklaces hanging in my walk in robe on 3m hooks, and earrings on an earring stand thing on a shelf. Long pendants and statement necklaces hand behind a wall mirror from IKEA that opens like a cupboard, and then bracelets, cuffs, and rings are ordered in a drawer in my bedroom chest of drawers. Hats (I wear beanies and soft hats) and gloves are in another drawer.

I have dreams of being able to have them all beautifully stored all together, ordered and easily visible...one day!

What I have done recently tho for fun, is repurpose my Christmas "stick" arrangement and I'm using that in my room for earrings and some necklaces:)

Very jealous of these bespoke storage systems! I have a very basic system. I store necklaces on hooks on the inside of my wardrobe door (pic 1). You can see my DH also installed elastic across them so that they would not slap against the door when I open and close it. I store bangles (and some necklaces) in one of those hanging jewellery rolls you can get on eBay (pic 2). That's all costume. Finer stuff, rings and earrings are stored in a large jewellery box that has separate velvet compartments. Bags are stored on shelves or hung on a multi hook attachment behind the bedroom door (I have a hanging thing like the jewellery roll that has compartments for clutches). I hope to do something more interesting eventually. I would like a glass top cabinet for displaying things. Like they have in jewellery stores.

Lovely! My jewelry is in a cherry box (about the size of two shoeboxes) with four drawers, plus a small built-in jewelry drawer in the dresser on which it rests, where my larger cuffs go. I probably purged 2/3 of my jewelry over the last couple of years, and I definitely love and wear it more because it's all in one place and cohesive. Oh, I also keep under a hat, high in my closet, duplicates of my two favorite pairs of earrings and two favorite cuffs (all costume) - I figure if someone ever broke in, at least I would have something left!

That is a great use for a beautiful Armoire. I have a good amount of jewelry. I use several drawers for my jewelry and use those covered trays from Container Store. I don't recommend this system because the trays are stacked and I can't easily see everything. When I'm trying to find something everything gets out of place and requires constant reorganizing.

My cousin bought this amazing mirrored jewelry cabinet that spins around and locks. She LOVES it and highly recommends it. Every time I see her she is wearing gorgeous jewelry and always tells me it's because she can see it all now that she has this jewelry cabinet.

That's a gorgeous piece of furniture, and who other than you would have a bulldog purse?

I have no efficient storage and organization system, and I have a fair bit of jewellery too. The only thing remotely organized are the long and short necklaces which I hang on a multi-knob over-the-door hanger thing. The rest is divided into little boxes, trays and dishes and tends to be a bit of a mess by the end of the week. I really would like a big apothecary-style cabinet, but I'm limited for floor space at the moment. Old house with no closet space etc. I am a fairly ruthless purger, and go through my stuff at least once a year. Unless something is truly vintage and/or valuable , I don't find older pieces look quite the same the second-time around . In a perfect world, I'd also have a bureau drawer with those sunglasses and watch display things in them - I bet i would wear a lot more of my things if there were right in front of me....the way it is now, I forget about most of the things I have !

Basically, I took over this antique armoire (pic 1) when we moved into our current home. It used to function as a closet (albeit a small one) in our old house, which had tiny closets. My husband used this for his clothes, but now he has a whole side of our walk-in, much to his delight. :-)

The armoire is now my accessory wardrobe. I removed the hanging rods and put in wire shelving, and added removable hooks on the inside walls and the insides of the doors.

In pic 2, you can see that I store hats and travel necessities on the shelves, as well as boxes that hold some of my mom's old sentimental costume jewelry, bracelets, etc. In pic 3, you can see how I use the hooks to hang my necklaces on the doors and inside walls.

On the right side of the armoire (pic 4) are storage boxes with graphic tees (stored in "filing style") and scarves.

And then my bureau has a built-in jewelry tray in the top. That's where I keep rings, watches, earrings, and pendants and chains. There is stuff in here that was my mom's, and pieces of mine that date back to the 80s.

I could probably stand to go through all of this and edit the collection a bit, or at least put some in a holding zone, but I'm so sentimental about jewelry, and some things were my mother's, so I'm not so quick to let go.

Whew! I know, it's a lot. What about you? How do you store your baubles and extras? Do you feel like your system works for you? Do you edit often?
