Wow, Una, those are some nice pieces - and many of them remind me of the fab necklace Aida made for the Secret Santa exchange. I think I already have a leather cord somewhere...

Heather, citron sounds cool, but it might clash with the yellow of the butterfly? Maybe not. Perhaps I'll do some photoshop mockups tonight!

Rae, I totally dig the idea of a citron cord in place of the chain.

I found a gold leaf kit that has pretty good reviews. Do you think I should leaf like... 1/4 of the butterfly? Or just outline the veins?

Una, I'm pretty good at jewelry construction and used to do a lot of it... I'm just very poor at design, so I've hated everything I ever made. lol. I figure copying is easier. Some cool findings would be good - maybe a more ornate jump ring...

Oooh, fun. I would do a metal leaf paint on it, and maybe even add a couple of other UWP-ish charms, then I would hang it from a necklace made of two stands - one leather, one chain. Supereasy to make and if you go to any jewelry store they will show you how. You can probably buy a premade leather necklace so you don't have to attach the clasp findings yourself.

I was going to suggest a leather cord too. Only thing that concerns me is that it might look boho, which you are not.

alternatively, you can gold or bronze leaf it in an interesting way. also the hardware store has copper flashing in different widths. you might find something wide enough to wrap around the edge.

Victoria, thanks for the ribbon idea. I was locked into metal, so that's a new possibility.

Khris, a metallic overlay is an interesting idea! Even a mettalic marker or such might make for a cool effect. Hrm...

Have you been to a craft store to see what is available? I'm wondering if they might have a metal or metal looking butterfly wing that will fit over half of it like the one necklace in your inspiration. I'd string it on a braided leather cord if you can find some that will fit through the loop.

Hmm, this is a tough one because the pendant is plastic so there is not whole lot you can do to change the overall look, I don't think. One idea-may be try wearing it on satin ribbon, choker style instead of an a thin chain?

Not long after this post (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....lust-swoon), I picked up a plastic necklace like the one below for $3. Mine is yellow and orange. I figured I could just string it on a metal chain to edge it up, but I thought maybe there were better ideas out there on how to make it look more UWP and less... like it cost $3.

Pic #2 was the inspiration. I don't need mine to look *just* like that at all. But maybe a bit of that vibe. I'm horrible at jewelry design, so all suggestions are welcome! It's pretty big, about 2.5 inches wide.
