Hi Maya,

I'm a very long waisted hourglass, so I'm always on the lookout for jeans with at least a 10" rise (which on me looks like a mid-rise). For reference, *all* the new Gap jeans (even the so-called higher waisted styles) and all of BR's jeans are much too short in the rise for me.

I also was on a quest for straight legs this fall I just got these Levis a couple of weeks ago, and so far I really like them, though I can't speak to their stretching out over time. They are a straight leg jean, and are about as close to a skinny jean as I am comfortable with on my hourglass body. They are high enough to contain the muffin top. They have quite a bit of stretch, but so far, at least, they seem to bounce back between wearings, if you know what I mean.

http://www.zappos.com/levis-pe.....mered-dark

They have a 10.5" front rise, 14" back rise, 16" leg opening. I bought the Hammered Dark color. The price is right, and with Zappos return policy, I figured it was worth a try. I ordered both a 4 and 6 because I was kind of on the borderline, size wise, but the 4 turned out to be the best fit for me.

I hope that gives you another option. I have seen some Levis 512s at Kohls (the bootcut style, anyway), but not in the color or style I got.

Maya - I have a picture on my jeans post under what to wear of the M&O straight leg. They're a higher rise - right below my belly button. And they're a true straight leg - go over my shoes. I love them. Sad part is they're discontinuing. I found the last one in my size at my local store but I wonder if you could hunt for them. Also, I don't know what their new stuff looks like but perhaps Martin + Osa is smart and is replicating it?

Maya, please report back on them! I was curious how they fit since I am also in the market. I am in between a 28 and 29 in most brands but if ES runs small, it wouldn't work on me so your feedback would be really helpful.

Hi Maya -- the Earnest Sewn High Rise Slim Straight Leg jeans do run rather small. I just got the pair I ordered in my usual size and I can't begin to zip them. If you want to try the 28s, they seem to still be available: http://www.overstock.com/Cloth.....oduct.html

Overstock.com has free shipping for the next ten days, so the risk is minimal. The rise is indeed quite high, and the inseam a generous 34".

Ooh thanks Tanya. I saw the Londons but they are actually a narrow bootcut (like the Mary Richards). They don't look like it in that picture but you can see the leg opening measurement is 17". Although now that I have done some research the Berlin jeans also have a wider leg opening. This is terribly confusing!

I guess the Acne jeans might be my best bet since they are the least expensive and very similar in fit to MiH but without the double button closure.

I probably won't be getting them unfortunately The shipping is outrageous (they ship from the UK). The jeans are too expensive anyway, and the shipping makes them even more too-expensive. But I have my eye on them in case the price drops.

The Acne jeans are a close second. They also have a super high rise (11"), but no double button waistband.

I'm just afriad that while I wait for the Berlins to get cheaper, the Acnes might sell out. Tough call.

I had a pair of ES jeans circa 2005 (20 pounds less and a lot less curvy). I went up to a 27 (usually took a 25 or 26) and they were still REALLY tight and there was no room for my butt. I bought them because the rise was 9" (rise was a problem even then for me, though not as dramatically as now). So I assumed what you said was probably accurate.

The ES jeans I own are ideal if you don't have much of a backside (front and back rise are virtually the same). But, not all ES jeans are designed like this, so I wouldn't make a general assumption.

The ES' I have are in a lovely shade of deep blue ... I wish COH would offer a jean in this shade. I always feel more dressed up in them. Not that I can wear them right now: the denim is very thick, better for winter, and I am about 1-2 lbs shy of having them be comfortable. I can wear them as long as I don't eat a big meal.

I think Shiny mentioned that the Earnest Sewns are NOT curvy-friendly jeans? Jes, those AT jeans look low to me. Have you tried them?

Well at any rate, I found 3 contenders:

-My Rich and Skinny jeans have popped up on ebay in my size
-Made In Heaven Berlin, with an 11" front rise and double button closure
-Acne Tube: Finally found them in my size on sale

The MiH's are my favorite. I found them on ShopBop a while ago on sale for $65 but was stupid and didn't try them. I'm trying to find the funds together for them!

Maya, I had ordered the same Earnest Sewns that Cathy linked to above a couple of days ago -- they were pictured in an ad on YLF -- and will let you know about fit when they arrive.

As we know, the numbers don't always match up with the fit, and Overstock does have a 28 available in case they turn out to run small (hee hee -- remember those Cheap Mondays?) I tend to believe that the premium denim cuts that end up on Overstock or SmartBargains are mostly the ones with a quirky fit. Sometimes this is bad, but it can also be lucky.

I too am on a quest for straight legs, or for skinnies that are more straight than skinny. I wore my only pair of skinnies yesterday, a "limited edition" cut from Gap that I got last year to tuck into boots. Ugh -- what was I thinking. They are *so* low cut and were falling down by mid-day. I was fortunately wearing them with a long tunic/shirtdress but talk about uncomfortable... they went right into the charity pile at the end of the day.

I found the Acne Jeans, but in a lighter wash (and I think you take a 24 or 25 right?):
http://www.theoutnet.com/produ....._OaXIFmaow

Also, these are cheap enough you might want to give them a try:
http://www.overstock.com/Cloth.....oduct.html
I have a pair of Earnest Sewn boyfriend jeans. They're really well made.

Just for fun (can you imagine, cashmere in your jeans!):

Hmm, I don't think I'm THAT straight. I think men have an average WH ratio of .9 or something whereas I am .72 or something thereabouts. Don't men's jeans also have a lot more um, crotch room than women's jeans...? Lastly, I can't think of any normal grown man who would wear my size (26 or 27). Even BR's small-man-cut jeans start at a 28.

I'm going to give the BR straight legs a whirl. I like them more than the skinnies, which are too scrunchy and tapered for my taste. The straight legs are sleeker and closer to what I'm looking for. They both supposedly align with the Martin fit so hopefully they fit the same way and it will be sufficient even if they are still too short.

I've worn men's Levis 501s for years - they fit well if you're pretty straight through the hips/waist, and they have a much higher rise than most women's jeans.

I also have some Kut from the Kloth jeans with a high rise. They do stretch, so buy them tight, but I like them and wear them all the time.

I didn't read all the responses so perhaps this has already been mentioned (or isn't as easy as it sounds), but have you considered getting ther perfect pair of bootcuts and having them tailored to a straight leg? If you have some basic sewing skills it's probably even something you could do yourself. This tutorial, which I found via acedemichic (http://www.veoh.com/browse/vid.....6E79TkSA5#), shows how to turn bootcuts to skinnies. I would think you could apply the same idea for straight legs without much difficulty.

Maya I second Shiny's suggestion for Ralph Lauren jeans. I've never tried on RL straight-legged or skinny jeans, but I have a pair of RL trouser jeans and I love them, especially because of the front rise (10 inches). I really love my COH Amber's too but do find the rise on the low side for me, I keep having to hike them up. That never happens with the RL ones, so I guess I'm one of the high-rise fans on the forum too;-)

Maya, the significanly different fit of men's jeans may be what you will like about them. Many women wear men's jeans because as you know there are as many different shapes of people as there are people. Wouldn't hurt to give it a whirl. I think one thing about them would be they would have better bum coverage.

Maya, I have a confession to make. I actually bought some NYDJ which I found for about $30 at TJMaxx. Angie is absolutely correct about the stretching and I am so glad that I didn't pay full price for these (which I was considering when I couldn't find any higher rise jeans). The are great in terms of not slipping down like Cathy said - they really don't budge on the waist but the butt and thighs sag so much! I pretty much have to wash them after a couple of wears in order for them to snap back into shape.
