I have the same hip-waist issue because I'm small in the hip area but I don't have much of a waist. I just stay away from the "curvy" brands and it works out okay.

Did you want the kind of high-waisted style that Maya is perpetually seeking? It can be hard to find, but because it's kind of a non-maintstream look, the discounts are often better when do you do find them.

April, I definitely thought of the Kahns but in general I was thinking those would be over $100 and I'm really wanting to be at $75 or even less! I love your idea of overstock and other places but I probably am going to have a vicious return cycle if I do that. But it may be worth it. I did get into a store to try a pair of the jeans I linked to above and they were not as great as I hoped. I hear mixed things about back pockets. Having curves I know to keep things simple and smooth on the bottom but sometimes my rear is flatter than I'd like so I have also heard back pockets can be a good thing to give definition. That particular pair of jeans was way too lose rise for me though.

I would say my fit challenges are that often if something fits my hips it is too tight in the waist, which reflects my apple tendencies. I also despise super low rise, I have waaay too much of a muffin top to try to wear those.

Thank you kindly for your advice, I will be checking overstock now! Thanks!

Also, if you check around on smartbargains.com, overstock.com, you'll find that premium denim is often deeply discounted. Of course, if you're not sure what brand/size fits you, you can be in for a frustrating round of ordering and returning.

You can try things on in the brick-and-mortar stores and make notes, and then bide your time for an online blowout sale. There have been lots of threads here on the fit of different brands of denim (for example, even I -- who lack curves -- now know that David Kahn is a brand of choice for curvy girls!) so you might be able to rule things out right off the bat.

Do you have any particular challenges in terms of fit?

Joe's jeans is high-end denim brand, but at the outlets 99% of the the denim is under $100, and, for some reason, there actually seems to be a better variety than in their normal stores. I've actually never seen another brand that consistently discounts their products by at least 50% in their outlets. Their also the most flattering, high quality jeans you'll ever find. I wear almost no other brands and I'm by no means rich.

I stay away from the flap pockets too, but I would give another recommendation for the Gap bootcuts. I have a pair in dark denim that I get a lot of compliments on.

I don't dare wear flap pockets on my bubble bottom. I have very few absolute rules but that is one of them. I don't know if that's an issue for you, but something to consider.

Subtle embellishment can be nice. I liked those old 7FAM jeans that had Swarovski crystals laid out in a thin, elegant swoosh. Just enough to add interest but not enough to encrust your entire bum in jewels.

I like Gap & BR jeans. With the skinny trend cresting, I see bootcuts on sale everywhere! Depending on your area, you might find some premium denim at discount prices at Marshalls/TJ Maxx but that involves sleuthing around which can be time consuming.

I echo the Gap recommendation. I have a pair of bootcuts and a pair of skinnies, and really like them.

The pocket details on the Miss Me jeans definitely give it a trendier vibe. I think the pockets flatter a particular body type, though, so just make sure it works for you.

Sorry! Posted the wrong link!

These are the ones I think are cute: http://tinyurl.com/yecbnyk

I still do not see how to edit my posts or else I would go do that for this one (anyone care to explain how to edit my posts once they are up?)

Rute - I do usually like free of embellishment jeans but I have two pairs that are very dark and 'classic' and I'm wanting something a tad trendier to jazz up my otherwise completely plain ensembles if that makes sense. The pair I've linked to *looks* like it might be dark enough to still possibly minimize and stay a little trendier than the plain jeans I tend to usually get.

Marianne - I don't have a Nordies near me but I might check Macy's since they have some of the same brands.

Time is short without kids to shop so I'm hoping to gather top recommendations on here to streamline when and IF I actually get to shop!

The ones on the link you posted seem to have way too embelishment and that is not good if you want to minimize (I don't know if that is the case).
I usually go for a dark denin, plain, classic, that I can dress up or down, you can add the trendier touch with other accessories.

I usually go to the Gap when I need a pair of lower price point jeans. I get lots of compliments on my curvy bootcuts.
http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=5664
Just make sure you try them on. I wear one size larger in the skinnies than I do in the bootcuts and straights. Also, go down one size and wear them around a bit as they do stretch just a tad.

Per a post I did a few days ago about 'real life MOTG' I'm looking for one pair of cute jeans. I have a pair of Old Navy skinny jeans that I wear a lot and a pair of straight leg jeans from The Limited I also wear a lot. I'm looking for a pair of cute bootcut jeans that are trendier that I can wear on a day-to-day basis. I saw these 'Miss Me' jeans:
http://tinyurl.com/y9oh22r

I think they are really cute and the price point is where I am looking! Any other recommendations?
