I always buy them to fit my thighs so sizing down would be too tight. Sigh. I have always thought my legs were the shape of a chicken drumstick! Combined with the fact that I'm extremely short waisted it makes fitting things so hard!

Have you tried sizing down to get a slightly snugger fit around the thigh? You may also want to check out more stretchy jean options, which crease less in my experience. If it's happening to you with every pair though, you could also go to a tailor and see if they have any suggestions. I wish I could offer better advice!

That may be the reason exactly! Does that mean I need to have them altered? Or that skinny jeans are not for me and I should try a different silhouette? Ideas anyone?

Could there be too much fabric in the thigh area, causing it to bunch and crease?

Marina, you are not an idiot! It is interesting that your pants crease when they are too long. That got me thinking that the creases could be caused by the shape of my legs. My thighs are quite large in comparison to my skinny lower legs. The skinny part starts a few inches above my knees, and that is right where the creases start too! I have to buy jeans to fit the thighs but they are always a bit loose on the lower part of my legs. Does that make sense? I wonder what the solution for this problem would be.

Since you said top of your leg, I was thinking around the crotch area, but seeing what you meant got me thinking "Marina, you are and idiot!" lol (I tend to interpret things to literally sometimes, sorry).
This sort of crease happens to my leggings and skinny-flare pants when they are right for my tights width, but "a little longer than they should" to their lenght.

This photo shows the start of the lines that will eventually fade and become permanent white lines across my legs. These are newer jeans I have probably worn a dozen times.

Hi ladies, thanks for your replies. I am not talking about whiskering. These are horizontal lines across my legs staring about 5 inches above my knees and up. It is where the fabric creates folds while I am sitting. I have tried various brands from all my favorite stores sch as j crew, br, etc. I think it must have to do with the dye as several of u have suggested but it has happened to me with light denim jeans as well. I'll try to post a picture of what I'm talking about, although I'm traveling with only a pair of newer jeans which are just starting to have the creases. Thanks for trying to help me solve this!

That's an interesting puzzle. I don't bother whiskering jeans very much, but my thicker jeans pants start showing whiskers a lot quicker than my stretch/thinner jeans pants. Since thicker fabrics are supposedly more resistant, I always assumed this happens because stretch jeans fits me better, creating just a few small creases, while thicker jeans never fit right and always result in a lot of big uncomfortable creases - and more creasing leads to faster whiskering (this is a theory I made out of nowhere based on my own pants, so this may be completely wrong).

Beside some fitting change, a changing in sweat ph is another possibility (our sweat ph changes due a lot of factor, but in this case you would feel your skin behaving a little different than usual too).

Like Anna says, this is called whiskering, and it happens because the dye on dark rinse denim is not permanent. To some, authentic (as opposed to factory-made) whiskering is desirable. If it bothers you, you could try washing as much of the dye out as possible before wearing (run the jeans through the washer by themselves a few times), or shop for lighter denims -- they'll have less dye and be less likely to show creases.

Dark denim dye is not permanent. It will fade with wear, creating whiskering at the groin.

Many of you commented on Angie's post about trousers that you choose to wear jeans because they don't crease. For the past couple of years I have had a terrible problem with my jeans creasing in several horizontal lines across the top part of my legs when I am sitting down. After just a short time these creases become faded and turn into permanent lines, especially on dark denim. This has happened to ALL the jeans I have purchased recently no matter what brand they were. It is so annoying and has caused me to get rid of many pairs that were still fine otherwise. I wonder if I'm wearing my jeans too tight? Or too loose? Or maybe it has to do with the spandex content? This never happened in the past. It is a mystery! Does anyone else have this problem?
