Update 2- I went back to the boutique and tried on the slim straights with tall heeled boots. Brought them home, tried them with my snowboots, ankle booties, and sneakers. They are wide enough to fit the tops of the booties in, so decided they're keepers. Sneakers looked too busy cause the laces, but nbd.
DH said the stripes on the sides reminded him of Han Solo, especially with the tall boots :)

The bad news is I'm already up to 3 of my winter F5P- between the 2 pairs of jeans and a Tek utility vest I snagged at an op shop. I think they'll be good buys for my life and climate though.

ETA- I saw an outfit with tall boots, skinnies, and poncho sort of sweater in black and tan that I liked yesterday. Inspired

Update- the trouser jeans arrived and are at the tailor for hemming They're perfect! The wash is darker than my older pair, and they're a bit wider all round, so a bit dressier. They'd even be ok for work on Fridays and Saturdays.

It seems that the general consensus here is that different jeans are seasonal. Since it's generally only cool enough here to wear denim November- April, and I only wear them for smart casual, I can happily leave many of the styles to others :)

That said, I've decided to downgrade the shorter-than-I'd-like (29") brown ones to non-workday wear. With my heeled ankle booties, they looked off, but the length and width is good with sneakers.

I wear jeans about 10 months of the year.

I have several pairs, mostly full length, relaxed fit straight leg. And I realize that about half of them belong in the too-small box, two belong in the bin. The ones that fit are indigo, with one pair of tan.

I'd like to try some of the newer shapes.

I'm a jeans gal and wear them year round, in all washes, colors, and styles for 8-9 months of the year.

I do tend to wear the lighter washes, white, and brighter color jeans more often in the spring and summer months, and darker washes and colors more often in the cooler months but not always. It's fun on a cold, dark day to brighten things up with a white or ivory pair sometimes.

I love jeans and wear them almost daily up to 10 months of the year in a 4 season climate, so they are not interchangeable, being in several different styles and washes. But that said, I do have interchangeable pairs that form the backbone of my wardrobe and styling! For example in snowy/messy winter I have slim straights in a couple of washes, plus similar 5-pocket styles cords, and for transitional dry days I have two pairs of wide legs (see my recent travel packing post for a capsule based around interchangeable wide legs). I don’t currently have dupes of any one wash and style combo but I have in the past when it was all skinnies and very little variation in cut available.
Anyway, I have to run but I think even if you only wear jeans once a week it absolutely makes sense to make them interchangeable for the purposes of outfit styling! On the other hand, if you want to try a new style, that also makes sense:)

Ok I ordered the ones they called denim trousers in indigo.
https://www.lysse.com/products.....9274034445
These may be what I currently have, but thought the bootcut was a bit wider than this.
https://www.lysse.com/products.....8251135011
These seem to be the ones I have in brown.
https://www.lysse.com/products.....8216587299
ETA- now I'm wondering if I duplicated the ones I already have! Looks like they've had this style for a few years.
If so, happy accident, but will need to have them hemmed.

I live in a casual town, and treat jeans as my dress up pants. I have jeans in dark blue, light blue, black and white, in mostly bootcut, although I have a few pairs of cropped and wide leg. Wide legs remind me of the 70s. I’d get wide legs if I were you.

I don’t have multiple pairs! I have only one pair, white.
Having said that, as an 80s girl if I ever look for blue jeans again I will be looking for a slim straight that still somehow fits my curves. If that is even possible. I would probably go to a Levi’s store and try on in person.

I have many pairs of jeans, wear them most days and am a mood dresser but also a shoe dresser so it sort of depends on a cross between my mood and the weather.
Anyway, I would go for the wide legs - I love bootcuts right now but you say they are similar to the pair you already have. But I like variety. If you did wear the front slits with ankle boots I would wear socks the color of the boots and not let skin show.

As a jeans gal, my various jeans serve different seasons and functions. Some are more versatile than others.
I find my straight jeans in a medium wash the most versatile. They can be dressed up or down and work with most of my shoes, sandals and boots. They're worn mostly year round except during the hot summer.
Love my wide jeans legs but slushy winter weather often restricts how often I'll wear them.
My crop jeans are strictly warm weather jeans. Worn with various sandals, and slip-ons
My barrel jeans aren't really worn much in the winter, like Suz mentioned they are rather breezy in cold temps. They are also a little more restrictive when it comes to styling, looking best with shorter or tucked tops, as well waist and ankle definition.

I have three pairs of jeans. I wear the straight dark ones only in winter, and the cropped Levis more in summer. I mostly choose them based around the shoes I want to wear.

I am looking for one additional pair this year, thinking of a flare/sailor style. But they need to work with flat shoes for me.

I rarely wear jeans in summer - maybe two or three times in total - but I wear them so much in winter that makes up for it!!

Great advice from Suz! :)

Like Suz, I have many pairs of jeans - most are NOT interchangeable.

Unlike Suz, I wear most of my blue and white jeans YEAR ROUND. All the silhouettes! With different footwear and support act. The exceptions are: the floral jeans, white wide legs, and white wide crops only come out in Spring and Summer.

Suntiger, I'm with you. Slim Straights are the original '80s skinnies, actually. How skinnies were when they resurfaced 18 years ago!

To answer your questions:

high shaft booties that cover the skin are a better idea with the front slits.

Personally, I don't prefer skinnies with booties. I like them with loafers, ballet flats, mules, or tall boots worn over the skinnies. If the jeans are in fact Slim Straights - so a little wider at the hems - and the booties are narrow so they fit neatly under the hems - that can work too.

Wide legs are awesome with boots, loafers and sneakers. LOVE mine! But problematic in wet weather unless they are at that shorter full length.

I vote indigo wide legs! AND, try a pair of indigo flares/bootcuts. Those seem to work best for your needs and style, from what I've pieced together.

Suntiger, I'm with Suz on this, not interchangeable. I used to try but with so many style choices and with the weather changes each season, It wasn't practical.
I went all in on wide this past year because they are my favourite and best style. Maybe start with your best style and choose a different colour or shade. Also, finding shoes make the biggest difference to the way each style feels.

That's helpful Suz!
I only wear jeans (or any pants) when it's below 70 degrees F (21C) so winter and early spring/late fall- November- mid April. Usually worn with booties, but sandals or transitional shoes at the upper end of the temps. Snow is usually not a factor, except this year, boo

Good questions, Suntiger.

I have multiple pairs of jeans and they are not at all interchangeable for me.

My light wash wide leg crops are casual spring/ summer/ early fall jeans for me. They are not warm enough for me to wear throughout the winter and the colour spells "spring/summer" to me.

I tend not to wear my full length wide leg light wash jeans except in summer, either.

My lantern/ barrel jeans (white and mid wash blue) are mostly spring/ summer items as well, although I do wear the white ones some in winter. Again, because they are so loose, they are too breezy for winter where I live. I also think they look better with exposed ankles.

I wear my BF jeans casually, mostly at home. I wear my two wide legs (dark and lighter wash) all over, but the dark wash full lengths feel "dressiest" to me and those are the ones I might wear on a teaching day.

If it were me, I'd try the wide legs in indigo. Those are my most worn jeans at the moment, the most versatile. (Mine are full length, not cropped, on me, but I can wear with sneakers or booties.)

Yesterday, I did a big pants/jeans hunt at our local boutiques. Bought nothing yet, but want to run ideas by you all.
One boutique has Lysse, which work well for me cause they're pull on (non negotiable with my weight fluctuations), high enough rise in back, and their indigo rinse is a bit greenish which I prefer.

Currently I have by them indigo bootcuts (best jeans Ever) and brown wide legs, which are ok but shorter than ideal with heels for my taste. The brown ones are passable as regular pants for the office, indigo maybe ok to work Friday and Saturday, but I save them for days off.

I tried on 3 contenders in store, and checked Nordstrom online for their options as well.
1. Bootcuts with a front slit, indigo. They're basically identical to the ones I love, but for the slit. A quick styling search just showed the style with sandals or pumps. Would ankle booties look ok if shorter than slit? I had short snow booties on yesterday and it was a bit odd.
2. Slim straights (I'd call them skinnies), indigo with thin tan piping on side. Didn't love with the snow booties but maybe ok with normal booties? Tall flat boots would be ideal, but my only ones are snowboots. They could feel less "splitting my wears" than #1.
3. Wide leg medium wash. The color felt too light and cool, but could order in indigo. Shoe wise they're easiest as I wear ankle booties all winter, and could be better with sneakers than the others.
Maybe passable for work too in indigo?

Most of you have multiple pairs of jeans, but I haven't in a long time. Since I've been working part time, and am doing errands all my days off, I feel like I can justify another pair. Just trying to decide what's most useful, easiest to pair with my shoes, smart casual instead of very casual, and won't feel dated next year.

ETA- if you have multiple pairs or jeans, do you treat them sort of interchangably, or for different types of occasions?
